Martial Arts/Kung Fu/Fantasy Epic/Crazy Awesome Japanese Movies

Has anyone seen a good one lately? Any recommendations from movies that have come out in the past few years?

I think I might check these out:

Alien vs Ninja

Saw this on TV long ago.. I love how kung fu moves are always associated with animals... Like the Mantis and Eagle kung fu.

There's a full movie on youtube of this one as well. Look it up.

And Jackie Chan's Drunken Master.. Fucking LOLZ.

Jura 08-02-2011 02:48 AM

I've already seen Drunken Master. It's a classic. I'm in mood for something made in the past few years though.

As for Alien vs Ninja, I caught a trailer of it when I made the thread and looks pretty wacky. I will check it out in the near future.

i can never remember the names of ones i've seen, they all seem the same

Fignuts 08-03-2011 03:41 PM

The Ip Man movies are the best I've seen recently. They are about Bruce Lee's teacher. Both are on netflix.

Also, anything with Tony Jaa or Jeeja Yannin is sure bet to blow your mind.

Fignuts 08-03-2011 03:41 PM

Actually, I take that back, Ong-bak 3 is pretty fucking terrible.

Jura 08-03-2011 03:50 PM

I've already seen them along with The Return of Chen Zen. I've got Bruce Lee My Brother but it's kind of a bio and I'm in the mood for crazy action.

I've seen the latest Jaa movies and The Protector 2 is not out yet so I can't watch that.

I'm just seeing if there's any gems that I've missed.

I think I'll look at certain actor's imdb pages and also scour youtube for anything that catches my eye.

Just watched that True Legend movie and it was great.

There was an AWESOME Martial Arts movie that I saw 4-5 years ago, and watched it a few more time cause it ruled.

It's called "The Master of the Flying Guillotine" It's the sequel to the One Armed Boxer

You HAVE to check it out.

Here's the Original Trailer

Been watching a lot of Takeshi Kitano movies recently. Hana-bi and Brother were both pretty great, and Zatoichi is also solid if you haven't seen it already.

Jura 08-04-2011 05:04 PM

I've seen Brother if that is the one where he goes to the US and forms a gang with his nephew and a black guy and Zatoichi was pretty cool.

The Mask 08-04-2011 05:37 PM

what was the one with the ninjas where that guy gets his head sliced off from his mouth upwards.

Jura 08-04-2011 07:03 PM

I don't remember any ninja movies that have that but maybe it's from Ichi The Killer:

Jura 08-04-2011 07:04 PM

Oh there's Azumi and Azumi II which are two of my favorites.

<object width="640" height="510"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ijSAe9u8Yvg?version=3&amp;hl=en_US&amp;rel=0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ijSAe9u8Yvg?version=3&amp;hl=en_US&amp;rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="640" height="510" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>

I've got them on DVD from eBay which may or may not be bootleg. The cover and disc look good but I'm still unsure.

Just finished True Legend. Sylvester Turkay and Heidenreich are actually in it lol. The first part could have given us a little more background information as I feel they just threw this story at us and the transition from 2nd part to the 3rd part was a little too quick. Action and fighting was aplenty but nothing to really distinguish it from other movies.Overall it was good but it leaves a little something to be desired. 7.5/10

I like the lead actor because he starred in a movie called, "The Blade" which is a classic. I recommend it.
