Would you buy this?

WWE has announced a new company program, "Live Commentary Radio," where fans who attend WWE broadcasts can pay $15 to purchase a radio that will allow them hear live commentary during the show from the ringside commentary booth. Here's the official announcement:

If you’re heading to Summerslam this weekend at Los Angeles’s STAPLES Center, there’s a new way to take part in the excitement. This Sunday, WWE introduces a revolutionary new radio that allows attendees of the Biggest Party of the Summer – and all pay-per-view events – to listen in on ringside commentary live with the WWE Live Commentary Radio.

If you’ve ever been to a WWE live event or any live sporting event, one major difference from watching the event on television is the lack of play-by-play commentary. The WWE Live Commentary Radio is going to change that, allowing fans in attendance to listen to the SummerSlam television broadcast featuring the likes of WWE Hall of Famers Jerry “The King” Lawler and Jim Ross, as well as Michael Cole, Booker T and Josh Mathews.

The WWE Live Commentary Radio will be available at merchandise stands on the concourse for $15 each. The radios are yours to keep and can be used as a traditional FM radio once the event has ended, and they can be used at future live events where WWE Commentary Radio is available.

That actually sounds like a pretty good idea. Especially that you keep it and can use it at future events.

Volare 08-11-2011 09:58 PM

Very smart marketing idea.

Droford 08-11-2011 10:00 PM

So I assume they're just fm broadcasting in the arena? Why would you pay $15 for their radio? Just bring in one yourself..

dronepool 08-11-2011 10:04 PM

They should with the ticket, if the ticket is over 60 or 70 bucks.

Lock Jaw 08-11-2011 10:21 PM

I'd get it in the hopes that somehow they'd get their signals crossed and I'd wind up with Kevin Dunn screaming in my ear.

Xero 08-11-2011 10:25 PM

This is something I always thought they should do. It's a great idea, and they're doing it in a clever and profitable way.

Next Big Thing 08-11-2011 10:30 PM

I have mixed feelings. I think part of going to a live event is interacting with the crowd and hearing the roar around you. Not sure I'd want that in one ear and commentary in another. Maybe I would if I had bad seats or something.

Ruien 08-11-2011 10:31 PM

They just got rid of the one reason I never wanted to attend a live event.

Droford 08-11-2011 11:08 PM

Now the live PPV crowds will be even shittier because they'll be listening to the radio.

I wonder how much of a delay there will be on it as well..

Aguakate 08-11-2011 11:11 PM

Shit, I can't stand listening to Michael Cole during RAW...the last thing I want is to buy something where I can listen to him too while in a live event.

Now, if he tones his gimmick down just a little bit, and let's JR take control of the play-by-play, maybe.

screech 08-11-2011 11:54 PM

Pretty cool idea. Worth it if you attend a lot of events too since it's reusable.

I like this. :D

Shisen Kopf 08-12-2011 12:21 AM

I wouldn't buy that. Why bother going to the event if all yous gonna do is listen to them call the rasslin. Part of going to rasslin is talking shit to the people sitting near you.

Maybe or it could be that it's only designed to be picked up by that FM tuner. I guess we'll have to wait for some live reports on how the device works.

It's a great idea though. As soon as I heard about it I came in here to see if somebody did a thread about it already.

Skippord 08-12-2011 01:35 AM

if Michael Cole weren't involved I would probably buy it

You can do both numbnuts.

XCaliber 08-12-2011 01:49 AM

It's a wonder they hadn't done this sooner but the ticket prices alone are high enough so I don't think it will catch on unless it's built into the price and not an option.

Tazz Dan 08-12-2011 04:00 AM

They've been doing that here for a few years now for Football and Cricket. Great idea.

RiX1024 08-12-2011 06:01 AM

yes so i can listen to it in my sleep as the PPVs are in the early hours in the morning.

Tazz Dan 08-12-2011 06:09 AM

..... They only work in the arena.

RiX1024 08-12-2011 06:32 AM

well if it becomes an app on your phone, that'll be ideal.

Battlekat 08-12-2011 09:48 AM

I think that price is way too steep. That should definitely be free of charge. I can't say I'd pay that much to listen to Michael Cole disrupt commentary and ruin matches.

Rammsteinmad 08-12-2011 01:36 PM

Seems like a good idea, I don't think I'd ever get one though (but I don't really go to enough live events anyway).

It's kinda like 3D movie glasses, it's all nice and fun for a few minutes, but I don't think I would want to wear one for three hours.

BigCrippyZ 08-12-2011 02:06 PM

It does seem like a good idea, although in reality, I don't know how much I'd actually listen/use it at a live event.

Chavo Classic 08-12-2011 02:30 PM

I've been to some events way up in the nose bleed sections where this would have been great to have. But like everyone has said so far, the appeal of a live event is the interaction with the wrestlers and other fans.

I'd buy with seats in row Z, but not if I was close to the action.

Emperor Smeat 08-12-2011 05:37 PM

It sounds like a decent idea but it doesn't mention if future events would be free to listen with the radio or require another fee.

Lock Jaw 08-12-2011 05:43 PM

Yes it does.

"they can be used at future live events where WWE Commentary Radio is available."

Taker it Easy 08-12-2011 06:21 PM

For awhile now I have thought it would be cool to be able to hear commentary on the radio just like from other sports however I am not going to pay $15 for the 'prevledge'. I can just rip an mp3 of the program and bingo! DINO DNA.

Xero 08-12-2011 06:25 PM

Taker it Easy can travel through time.
