How many times...?

has the wrestling industry lied to the fans, in any way/shape/form?

I remembered the buzz about, if I remember correctly i think it was, this years wrestlemania having had the biggest crowd in the venues history, yet they later clarified that the number spanned over 2 or more days, or something like that. (please correct me on this if I'm wrong)

That got me thinking: if the E lied about that number, if only by omission, how many other times have they, along with other companies, done it?

My question mainly focuses on wrestling companies, both current and defunct, that have / had tv shows, (ie smw, wcw, ecw, tna, and so on), that openly lied on TV (IE WCW's and to an extent the E's tendency to lie about having sellout or capacity crowds when, in some cases, the camera angles during matches or interviews clearly showed empty sections of the building), but is open to other companies as well, (IE new japan, NWE, etc...)

I'm NOT counting the lying via story lines, OR the cards changing via the "card subject to change" disclaimer during wrestling ads.... if I did I'd guess there'd be several dozens of pages worth of posts about them, but feel free to post those anyway ;).

I realize that this question may not be practical, but I'm still curious.

Because it sounds great to say "We have a soldout crowd" than "we have half the arena in anticipation of tonights bout".

Three times only.

Xero 08-23-2011 07:24 PM

There was an "Eat Shit Logan" sign on RAW. Are you that Logan?

Nothing in wrestling is anything less then the 100% truth, and i'm very upset that you would imply otherwise.

993,541,228,103 times

oh, 993,541,228,104 times, Ted DiBiase just this second told the 300lb woman wearing the homemade Randy Orton T-shirt that randomly hugged him in McDonalds that it was nice to meet her

actually 993,541,228,105 times

and so on

Seth82 08-23-2011 09:08 PM

I think I'm doing it wrong.

Wishbone 08-23-2011 11:38 PM

Mabe it'd be easier if you just asked how many times they had not lied to the fans?

Razzamajazz 08-24-2011 01:48 PM

BigCrippyZ 08-24-2011 01:52 PM

Before he got fired or before he died?

CSL 08-24-2011 03:11 PM

Both. He didn't just "start going to the gym more" to achieve that physique.

Every night, every show.

BizarroKing 08-24-2011 03:56 PM

Just remembered Tony Schiavonie lied to the fans nearly every night:
"This is truly the greatest night in the history of our sport!"

Rammsteinmad 08-24-2011 03:59 PM

It was. Only WCW in 1999 could keep topping itself each week.

Gass 08-24-2011 04:48 PM

Benoit just needed some time off. Rumor has it that he's hiding out in Graceland, waiting to make the ultimate comeback at WM30.
