Is it time for a Redesign of the WWE Championship?
2005-current - "Spinner" belt
2002-2005 - "Undisputed" belt 1998-2002 - "Modern" belt mid 1980's-1998 - "Classic" belt (not exactly sure the date it changed in the '80's) Aside from custom belts (Warrior, Austin, Slaughter, etc.) is it "officially" time to change the WWE Championship design? I do believe it is a mutual feeling that the current championship design does not look good. This design has been around second longest of the belts since the "boom" era of the 1980's. So what say you? Time to change? And if you could design a new championship, what would you consider? |
Funnily enough, earlier this year CM Punk took heat to John Cena for 'saying goodbye, and then coming back every week', or basically, not sticking to his word... yet Punk did say a few weeks back that once he'd won the title he would change it as 'it has been ugly long enough'.
Sadly, he never changed it. :( :foc: |
It's been "time" for a while now. People have been complaining about this for years
|
I wish they would bring back the 'Undisputed' belt. It was a cool-looking belt, which kinda went nicely alongside the World Championship.
|
changed in 87, belt before that was from 84, not sure when the green Backlund/Sheik/Hogan belt came in off the top of my head. While I wouldn't say one was "due" since the timing of the changes is pretty random in terms of years apart and I don't really have anything against the current design outside of the word 'Champ', if they maybe wanted to bring in a more 'classic' looking belt, I wouldn't mind.

I wouldn't mind a more classy looking WWE Championship. I mean there is a reason that the Big Gold Belt hasn't changed since it came out for WCW, because it looks classy around someones waist, or shoulder. |
I'm so tired of seeing that fucing spinner belt..... It doesn;t even fit Cena's rapping gimmick anymore..... The design should have changed when Punk came back with his own Title, as it would have got him over even more with the IWC.....
|
Didn't The Miz change it earlier this year?
|
By flipping the "W" upside down, yes.
|
Change the fucking belt already

The current belt is pretty mediocre but the undisputed belt was even worse. Looked cheap as shit.
|
I always likes the undisputed one, it just wouldn't make sense since the world champion is once again disputed(world title)
what did they do to the spinny belt, did someone win it off Cena and put a piece of gum behind the W to stop making it spin. I bet we wouldn't hate it so much if it never spined(and said champion) |
The Undisputed Belt looked like a midcard title at best. It lacked that "main event" feel to it. It was also small. But then again, so was the "Classic Wing-tipped" belt and the NWA Title belt. Maybe it's because it came right after the "Big Round" belt. The "Big Round" belt really had that main event look to it. It looked grand and stood out from the rest of the titles in the company
I didn't think that the Spinner belt would remain active even long after Cena stopped being the champion. The middle of the belt has a round "hollow" indent because the W needs that place to spin. But once they removed the "spinning" aspect from the title, the belt just looks like a blocky toy. I remember Edge had his own version briefly. Also, does anyone notice that they got a new WHC belt? The inner lining is red. I wonder why they did this? |
They have to make small changes to the belts every once in a while to distinguish them from the counterfeits.
|
Tell the kiddies to stop buy the toys.

The WWE title looks like a piece of garbage I mean honestly I'd be embarassed to walk out on RAW every week with that. They need a revamped title NOW! I recall reading something a while back that WWE had made a new belt but were waiting to debut it. Anyone hear anything else about this?
|
This should be the new belt design.

The obvious answer is yes
|
Just replace the crown at the top with the WWE logo, and there you go. :y:

Meh. Honestly, I'm used to it now. Won't mind seeing it changed, but don't mind it being the way it is.

Just kidding, but I'd get fucking hungry |
Black cake, that's fucking gross. I bet it tastes like licorice
|
I can't stand that piece of shit belt, get rid of it already ! Bring back the "big round" belt if they need to bring an older title back. If they do redesign a whole new belt they better fucking do it right this time !

It needs to be changed because as long as it keeps its current design it will always be associated with cena. I think a more traditional but new design would be nice but don't have a helmet on it like the tag titles
|
I loved the design of the last (eagle) ECW World Heavyweight Championship belt and I would love to see a new design for the WWE Championship. But since the sales of John Cena's version of the WWE title belt are crazy, I don't expect one.

But seriously, The spinner U.S. title was also associated with Cena. With Cena on to the main event picture, that went away. The same should happen with this belt. There have been "teases" before, what with Punk saying a few weeks ago that it "has been far too ugly for far too long", and both Miz AND Edge doing an "unveiling"... only to have the same damn belt in a new configuration. Hell, they have a golden opportunity in Of The River being the champ right now. He can "buy" another classier belt. |
The current US title is so bad. God damn it's bad. But that brings up an interesting point. Even if they do change the WWE title, do any of you have any confidence that the replacement will be any better than the current model? Seems like most people hate the Divas and tag belts, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who can't stand the US belt. A lot of people hated the ECW title too. Personally I thought it was great but what do I know. The only current titles people don't seem to hate are the IC title which has been the same design since 1998 and the world title which has been the same since 1985.
They're obviously headed in the direction with their belts to make them more colorful and unique for the HD world, so I doubt they're gonna go with a classy simple design for their most important title. |
Yeah I really can't stand the current WWE title for the simple fact that the logo is way too big in the center of the belt. Like Supreme said, I don't have any confidence that a new belt design will be any better. Especially looking at the WWE Tag Team titles. Those are miserable.
|
THe IC title belt is long overdue for a change first. Awful design. Never cared for the Undisputed Belt either.
Come to think of it, I havent liked a new belt design since the Attitude Era world title. |
CREATIVE: "Vince, I think it's time we changed the WWE Title design."
VINCE: "Why?" CREATIVE: "Well, we originally created it to be associated with John Cena, like Austin's Smoking Skull belt." VINCE: "Go on." CREATIVE: "I mean, since John isn't the champion anymore, don't you think we should go back to a less specific design?" VINCE: "But John is going to win the WWE Title back in a few months. Are you suggesting we change it back and forth every time John wins the title?" CREATIVE: "I-" VINCE: "That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. You're fired." CREATIVE: "Fuck." |
Yeah. I think the belt has stuck around because it appeals to kids whereas a normal, respectable looking belt wouldn't sell as well to their demographic and I'd venture to say most belts are bought for kids and not guys in their mid 20s to early 30s.
|
It's long overdue and if ADR is true to his character he should come out and say this belt is beneath him and looks that it was made by peasants and bring back the Undisputed WWE Championship besides they've been referring to it as such ever since at least Summerslam why else would they?
|
The classic "winged eagle" belt was first used on February 5, 1988, at the first Main Event show.
