Trying to play sound from PC through HDTV...

Have my PC hooked up to my HDTV via HDMI cable but the sound isn't coming through. Changed settings in 'sound' to play through the cable but nada.

Any ideas? :?:

Older GFX cards or older motherboards don't output sound through the HDMI cable, you'd need to get a speaker to L-R Audo Cables lead, if your TV accepts them in conjunction with HDMI.

It's a relatively new PC.

More so, I'm sure I've played sound through the tv before. :-\

New PC or not, some just don't give you the feature of sending audio through HDMI but if you can provide more info about the PC or if you could look it up I'm sure we will know for sure.

It's an Acer Aspire X3300.

Nevermind, after 2 minutes of googling (:$) I find that you cannot play sound through the HDMI.

Was gonna say I have my PC hooked up to TV via HDMI. But sometimes when I turn on TV don't get sound, so have to go unplug cable for 5 seconds and then plug it back in and I'm back in business. Bit annoying to do but whatever.

You can just get a cheap video card that lets you output sound via HDMI. For your system it seems you need a low profile card and I think you have HTPC needs instead of gaming needs so you don't require a powerful card. I think your PC has a 220w PSU though so I'm not sure if that will handle a video card along with your system.

Or a standard 3.5mm audio cable.

But you should really be connecting you pc to your surround sound amp

Yep, that's the "easy" option.

If only I could remember the combination to the padlock on my TV...
