Thoughts on the Gimmick Battle Royal and WM17 and should WWE do it again?

I know the crowd in Houston wasn't too crazy about it, except for Doink getting the biggest pop.

But I think they SHOULD have one at WM27. How bout it?

And if so, who would you put in it.

BizarroKing 09-09-2011 10:00 PM

Can they go back in time about 5 months ago and book it?

But seriously if they did that again I'd probably enjoy that.

What Would Kevin Do? 09-09-2011 10:01 PM

No.

Instead, they should have a Gimmick Swap battle royal.

Now that would be awesome.

Was at that show live. Marked out for pretty much everybody. Sadly the same couldn't be said for most of the crowd, you could hear a pin drop...probably why it's unlikely that we'll be seeing another proper Gimmick Battle Royal, since only a few (Doink) will get any sort of significant pop.

Yeah, I felt so bad for the guys when I was watching it on television. :(

Nicky Fives 09-10-2011 08:44 AM

As long as it doesn't bump someone deserving from the card, I'm all for it.....

Next Big Thing 09-10-2011 09:10 AM

I didn't mind it for nostalgia. Hated seeing Sheik and Slaughter in it though. They were legit bad asses at their height and shouldn't have been in there with some of those jokes.

I don't think I'd want to see it again tbh.

LuigiD 09-10-2011 10:02 AM

I wouldn't mind a more "serious" one at Wrestlemania 30 as an anniversary type of deal..
If I remember correctly, I don't remember seeing a single wrestling move in that match. All kicks and punches.

PorkSoda 09-10-2011 11:02 AM

Most of the guys were so old they could only kick and punch.

I do remember Slaughter putting the Cobra Clutch on the Sheik when it was over.

Scotty had always been over and I'm pretty sure he just got released that year...so he barely counts

Evil Vito 09-10-2011 11:11 AM

If they DID do another Gimmick Battle Royal, I'd try to limit it to just gimmicks that cropped up since the last one. The Boogeyman, Deuce 'n Domino, the World's Largest Love Machine, etc.

Ace 09-10-2011 11:25 AM

I'd love to see a new one.... but like Vito said, you'd have to keep it semi- recent. The only problem being, 'Legends' roles have gotten to be more of a big deal since WMX7, with the HoF coming back and all.....so I'm pretty sure a fair few of them wouldn't come back just for no reaction and to be dumped out of the ring in a few seconds....

Good point.

That divas battle royal at WM25 was crap. They could've introduced 'em including Sunny. Wasn't Sable in it as well?

Who was playing "Skinner" there? That sure as fuck wasn't the original guy, if it was then he's reverted in age by about 20 years. :wtf:

Mr. C 09-10-2011 05:10 PM

I'd rather see an Attitude Era gimmick battle royal with Billy Gunn, D-Lo Brown, Gangrel, Hardcore Holly, Ken Shamrock, Mark Henry, Perry Saturn, Rikishi, Road Dogg, Steve Blackman, The Godfather, The Undertaker, Vader, Val Venis, and X-Pac. Obviously, Undertaker wins. Maybe on an Attitude era-inspired RAW (like Old School RAW).

Pintint 09-10-2011 05:34 PM

I always welcome seeing old guys no one ever cared about except me. Like Gangrel.
Its a shame Gangrel got fat and started directing porn.

Razzamajazz 09-10-2011 05:50 PM

a gimmick battle royal would be 100x better than those skits they had this past wrestlemania

That was indeed the original Skinner, Steve Keirn.

IIRC, the last 3 guys in the battle royal were IRS, Skinner, and Slaughter...the only agents in the match.

That's some good bookin'

Sonofanarchy 09-10-2011 06:42 PM

Skinner (Keirn) works backstage?

I heard the klique harrased him daily and made him cry...

loopydate 09-10-2011 06:51 PM

Skinner is one of the main trainers/bookers for FCW, I think. I know he was an on-air authority figure for them for a long time.

Well if thats the case, why not do a Doink battle royal? The WWE can get all 50 people who they have had play Doink to wrestle in costume so they all get decient pops? :shifty:

Lock Jaw 09-10-2011 08:30 PM

Have a battle royal with current wrestlers... but make it a gimmick battle royal in that they each have to pick out a gimmick before the match and then arrive as it.

Can have old gimmicks, or just random professions. Kane picks out "Dentist Gimmick".

dhellova guy 09-10-2011 10:27 PM

Do it somewhere where the fans would remember who they are.

New York, or Toronto would be my guesses.

Aguakate 09-11-2011 12:39 AM

They should have another Old School RAW. That's what I want to see! (Srs)

KaosDarksol 09-11-2011 03:09 AM

A gimmick battle royal with some of the more recent gimmicks would be awesome just as long as the winner is the wrestling GOD JBL

RiX1024 09-12-2011 11:13 PM

Would be nice to have another one, just for nostalgia reasons, however most of today's fans wouldn't know who the hell most of them are.

:y: I second that.

RiX1024 09-13-2011 07:27 AM

I also agree with that...Attitude Era style.

I liked the original (and the Raw 15th Anniversary one) and would like another one, today's fans be damned.

Battlekat 09-16-2011 10:07 AM

I would love another one, I would just make sure it was different gimmicks (mostly Attitude Era) this time. I would bring in people like IRS, Gillberg, Val Venis, Viscera as the love machine, Steven Regal (The Real Man's Man), Doink, Beaver Cleavage, and The Godfather all come to mind. I think it would be alot of fun and it could possibly replace a Divas pissbreak.

JERRY 09-16-2011 10:15 AM

gimmick royal entertainment massive need more wcw dumb-man gimmick i m o

Jordan 09-16-2011 10:54 AM

Someone said The Undertaker should be in a gimmick battle royal at Mania, this thread should be closed.
