For You Kris P.: Vitor Belfort vs. Cung Le UFC 139 (now ft. extra Hendo)

http://www.mmafighting.com/2011/09/1...ort-at-ufc-13/

Will be nice to see him back fighting again.

Mr. C 09-10-2011 05:31 PM

This fight makes no sense for Belfort. Cung Le isn’t going to move him up in the rankings. With that said, Belfort is going to destroy Cung Le. He’ll feel him out for a minute and a half then swarm him. This won’t even be a contest. Whoever doesn’t think so is crazy.

alvarado52 09-10-2011 08:14 PM

I always thought Le was all hype by Strikeforce

Kris P Lettus 09-10-2011 10:33 PM

He told me he wanted to retire.. I guess acting isn't panning out for him..

CSL 09-19-2011 08:05 PM

This is going to be Kris P's favourite card ever, Hendo vs. Shogun has just been confirmed for it

Quote:

Strikeforce light-heavyweight champion Dan Henderson has opted to return to the UFC ranks following his last Strikeforce win over Fedor Emelianenko. He has likely vacated his title to pursue UFC gold.

Set to spoil his return to the Octagon is former UFC light-heavyweight champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.

UFC 139 is set to take place on November 19th at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California. With the original heavyweight title fight headliner between champ Cain Velasquez and Junior Santos moving from UFC 139 to UFC on FOX 1 the organization is likely looking for a replacement main event. The Henderson vs. Rua fight is a likely replacement for the slot.

Rua just took out Forrest Griffin in the UFC Rio co-main event; it was his first appearance and victory since losing his title to Jon Jones.

Henderson returns off the heels of his heavyweight victory over Fedor Emelianenko under the Strikeforce banner. At 41-years old Henderson was able to capture the Strikeforce crown with a punishing knockout victory over Rafael Feijao this past March at Strikeforce Columbus.

Both fighters will be looking to advance to title contention with a victory.

Why didnt they just milk the unification thing while Overeem, Hendo and Diaz were still champs.......hate to see SF die like this...

Next Big Thing 09-20-2011 10:44 AM

Business if you think about it. Strikeforce has a contract with Showtime so if Zuffa started unifying titles and folding 3 of the 5 weight classes into the UFC Showtime could probably sue for breach of contract. By bleeding them dry of all the talented/exciting fighters, Showtime can't complain since the divisions themselves are still in tact and the contract is between them and Strikeforce not them and Strikeforce fighters.

That's what happens when you let the equivalent of a retarded chimp run your organization. As soon as Strikeforce's contract is up, they're gonna end up folding. Guys like Overeem and Shields wouldn't be vacating titles to jump ship if they weren't aware of it. Better to jump ship and lock in bigger pay days than wait till the only competition the UFC really has folds and get low balled.

Next Big Thing 09-20-2011 01:51 PM

There is no competition. Zuffa owns the UFC and Strikeforce, which means they own the contracts of Strikeforce fighters so it's not really jumping ship to go from one organization to another since Zuffa owns the guy and will make money off him either way and he doesn't really have any leverage for negotiation. If Dana wants you in the UFC, you'll be in the UFC. If he doesn't want you in the UFC, not only will you not be in the UFC, you won't be in Strikeforce either (unless you're Paul Daley and you already signed a contract so there isn't shit Dana can do but huff and puff).

Reavant 09-20-2011 03:39 PM

theyre doing it to phase out showtime

Last week, Cung Le was scheduled to fight Vitor Belfort in the de facto UFC 139 main event. Earlier this week, the UFC officially brought back Dan Henderson into the promotion, slotting him in the top slot of UFC 139 against Mauricio Rua. Now Dana White tweets that Le-Belfort is off:

Vitor is injured and out of San Jose fight. Now Cung Le will fight Wandy!

The interesting thing here is that by replacing Belfort with a man lower on the middleweight totem pole, the UFC has, in my eyes, put together a better fight. Le was overmatched against Belfort, and a fight with Wanderlei is much more competitive for him. It's also a good test for Wanderlei. A repeat of his fight against Chris Leben is further evidence that the UFC should play the Chuck Liddell card on him.

Le is 6-1 in his MMA career, with all of his fights taking place in San Jose for Strikeforce. He last fought in June of 2010, knocking out Scott Smith in a rematch.

Wanderlei Silva lost his last fight to Chris Leben by knockout. He is 2-4 since he signed with the UFC in 2007.

So yeah... Belfort is out... Wandy is in. Now what to think of the fight?

Mr. C 09-21-2011 04:22 PM

Oh, boy. Wanderlei is getting knocked out again.

Guarantee you Belfort didn’t want to fight Le because it was a lose-lose for him. He just posted on Twitter that he’ll be ready to fight in December. :shifty:

Doubt he fights at 140, which already has Big Nog/Mir II and Lil Nog/Ortiz. Possibly 141, which is headlined by Overeem/Lesnar. I don't really see Hendricks/Fitch co-headlining, so throw Belfort/Okami as the co-main event on the card, along with a couple of fights like McGee/Herman and Volkmann/Tavares, and you've got a solid card.

SuperSlim 09-21-2011 04:50 PM

I think Wandy will take a different approach than the Leben fight so he could probably come out with a win in this one.

Hendo/Shogun confirmed as #1 contenders match

Crimson 09-21-2011 11:51 PM

Love that fight

Kris P Lettus 09-25-2011 10:31 AM

WAR HENDO

Kris P Lettus 11-05-2011 09:05 PM

Martin Kampman vs Rick Story
Faber vs Bowles
Bonnar vs Kingsbury

I'm def gonna get this one..

Also, as much as I love Shogun, I think he'll be missing some teeth after this one..

 HENDO

Also, I really hope Cung Le looks good (which he will) and finishes Wandy.. He'll set himself up for a run at 185 in the UFC and possibly end Wandy's career.. Two birds, one stone..

Next Big Thing 11-06-2011 03:38 PM

I dunno Kris P... I like Cung Le a lot, but the Axe Murderer isn't Scott Smith or Frank Shamrock. Fighting Wandy is a huge step up in competition even though he isn't that good anymore. I think Wandy is going to tear through him and hopefully retire with a win.

Kris P Lettus 11-06-2011 03:52 PM

Wandy is 2-6 in the past 5 years.. Those 2 wins were against Bisping and Jardine.. Not really like he's the cream of the crop right now.. Out of the 6 losses, 4 of them were by KO/TKO..

In that same time, Cung Le is 7-1..

This is not the Wandy of old.. I mean sure, he could def win and will always have a punchers chance but so does Cung Le..

Next Big Thing 11-06-2011 04:00 PM

True true. But look who he's lost to compared to the guys Cung Le has beaten. Bisping and Jardine are much tougher opponents than the guys Cung Le has beaten and Wandy's losses are to Hall of Famers and guys who are tough as hell.

Next Big Thing 11-06-2011 04:01 PM

Either way I'm excited for this card.

Kris P Lettus 11-06-2011 04:02 PM

Me too..

I'll def be getting this one..

Mr. JL 11-19-2011 03:28 PM

Anyone know if Hendo - Shogun is 5 rounds?

Funky Fly 11-19-2011 03:32 PM

If it's the main event, it should be. They wont need that kinda time though. Get the feeling that unless Hendo catches him early, Shogun's gonna drop him with striking.

Mr. JL 11-19-2011 03:42 PM

I can see this fight going a lot like the Fedor - Hendo fight with Shogun pushing forward and unleashing shots with Hendo eating them only to deliver a H Bomb.

Mr. JL 11-19-2011 03:46 PM

But yeah totally agree that this won't go a full five rounds but I cringe everytime I see a 3 round main event fight.

Shogun isn't going to just step into your offence though. He'll cut off your strengths and play his game Ask Machida. And it's not like he doesn't hit hard either. Ask Rampage (who Shogun beat back when Rampage still gave a shit about training for fights). And if it goes to the ground, I can't see Hendo being able to beat Shogun (who is actually better on the ground than standing, as terrifying as that is).

SuperSlim 11-19-2011 10:06 PM

Is there a stream for this anywhere?

Mr. C 11-20-2011 01:05 AM

If Rumble gets hurt sometime before 142, they must do Vitor vs. Wanderlei II in Rio. If not, they should still do it next year.

Crimson 11-20-2011 01:46 AM

Great main event...Hendo is a beast at 41 still

RP 11-20-2011 04:15 AM

That fight was probably the greatest fight I've ever seen.

The whole card was the best theyve ever done, IMO...

We get it for free here in UK bt I still feel obliged to give them $50 for it

What warrior Shogun is after that second rd....and Hendo was out on his feet in the 4th lol spine tingly stuff

Gonna watch this again and again....brilliant

Innovator 11-20-2011 10:59 AM

That was amazing.

Next Big Thing 11-20-2011 11:04 AM

Sick fight! I thought it was a draw, but I have no complaints about Hendo winning either.

RP 11-20-2011 11:49 AM

Hendo went zombie mode in the fourth

Stickman 11-20-2011 12:40 PM

In for vids...

Ol Dirty Dastard 11-20-2011 03:08 PM

Ridiculous heart and skill by both guys. To have a fresher guy in the fifth mount you, and stay alive til the end of the round is just ridiculous. To be able to withstand being H-bombed like 5 times flush to the chin is also just ridiculous. It's what you want from any fight. It was a high level Griffin v Bonnar. Any "sloppiness" was because of the work rate and power they put forth.

Also, good to see my boy Kampmann come in with the victory, lol apparently the one bit of scoring for Story was actually an error on the judges part and Kampmann got the UD. It was obvious he won the fight so even with poor judging I thought it was strange that he only got the split. He's a top fighter at 170 and he got so retardedly robbed against Sanchez that it burns me to this day.

Good effort by Cung Le, I expected him to get blitzed way quicker. Nice to see some vintage Axe murderer at the end. Great fight.

Urijah and Bowles are both beasts. Urijah's just better. Great effort from both guys.

Well done Stephan Bonnar.
