World title count question
 
On last night's impact, we heard Angle claim that he's a 14 time world champ (I saw 13 according to wiki, but w.e).

My question is: Is flairs 16 title reigns really a significant achievement (anymore)? I haven't heard him say it in months, but up until he joined TNA, he'd shove that fact down everyone's throat along with his usual lines.

Another ? is: Does any other wrestler have a higher number of title reigns and I just haven't heard of it? Part of me suspects that there isnt, but I have no idea on how to look that up.

not recognized "big titles" like Flair's, no (WWE, WCW, NWA, TNA etc) There'll be plenty of guys with more "World" title reigns though from the lowest levels to guys as high as Jerry Lawler who won the USWA World title 3,719 times as well as the AWA belt, the World Class belt etc.

Technically, Ric Flair is a 21-time Champion.

Wasn't there some exchange between Flair and RVD where Flair touted being the "16 time world champion" and RVD responded with, "Wow... you lost the world title 16 times?" or something like that?

there was also a bit with the whole "oh so you lost the title X amount of times" with the dudley boys, but i dont remember who said it

Yeah, not really sure where Kurt Angle got 14. He's a 4 time WWE Champion, 1 time World Heavyweight Champion, 1 time WCW World Champion, 5 time TNA World Champion, 1 time IWGP World Champion and a 1 time PPW Heavyweight Champion.

Maybe he counts his olympic gold medal as a World Title?

The IWGP title reign was IGF-recognized, not the legit version that NJPW has.

Angle did win the World Championship in amateur wrestling in 1995 so maybe that counts along with the Olympic gold medal?

Thought he was at 15, not 14...at least according to TNA.
