Best of the Worst and Worst of the Best
Many wrestlers have stepped into the ring over the years. There were those who revolutionized the industry as we know it, and there were those who really should’ve picked another “job”. What I want us to discuss is who is the best wrestler, past or present, to NEVER hold a world championship and, on the flipside, the worst wrestler to become a world champion?
|
Mr. Perfect
David Arquette |
Rick Rude, not counting that fake ass 'International' belt he won in WCW
Worst is Edge in his latest babyface run, turned me away from wrasslin. |
Edge was worse than Arquette, McMahon, Russo, Khali, etc?
|
Loved Vince Russo.
Arquette was just publicity stunt, McMahon did his job and Khali was awful but believable at least. That Edge/Kane feud was the worst thing I ever seen in wrestling, period. Terrible stuff. |
Can't help but mention Owen Hart as one of the greatest to never hold the world title. True that his death, IMO, prevented a WWF title reign sometime in the future. Add to the fact that he has had awesome feuds with former world champs Bret Hart, Stone Cold, and Triple H. There was no doubt that he could carry the load as a champion. If The Miz or Y2J can pull it off, certainly Owen could have.

I feel like I've answered this question a hundred times now. Anyway...
Ted DiBiase David Arquette |

Anyway for best and worst I'd say best to never hold one Mr. Perfect all the way, and worst is without saying Arquette. |

Roddy Piper

I think we'll ALL agree that David Arquette was the worst world champion this side of Stan Stasiak. If there's another actual wrestler (minus the Vince Russos and Vince McMahons of the world), then by all means let's hear 'em.

Khali
|
Best: Curt Hennig and Ted DiBiase as an honorable mention.
Worst: David Arquette and Vince Russo as a dishonorable mention. |
Jake Roberts
Jeff Jarrett (when compared to the other champions outside of Russo and Arquette in the WCW lineage) |
Best - "Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase
While him and Mr Perfect both never had a chance to be champion and both were overshadowed by Hogan's era, at least Mr Perfect got to hold the 2nd best title (IC title) a few times while the best DiBiase got was a few tag team reigns. Worst - Russo. Booker T barely got a week into his reign until Russo someone gets involved and wins the title and then after a week decided he doesn't want the title anymore which ended up with Booker T reclaiming the title and making the whole thing a huge waste. At least with Arquette, he tried to convince WCW not to make him a champion and his reign was more to help promote the wrestling film he had than being a legit reign. |
Curt Hennig (although Roberts, DiBiase, Piper & Hall are also great answers)
Vince Russo |
Best: Hennig
Worst: David Arquette |
Magnum TA was one of the best wrestlers not to win the world title, but his career was cut short by a car accident.
Khali would have to be the worst "Wrestler" to win a world title. |
Best: Scott Hall - with his size, his look, his mic skills and all that he accomplished in both the WWF and WCW, Scott should have been a World Champion at some point. It's disappointing that his drinking/drug problems are essentially what stopped him from ever reaching World Champion status, and that he let himself go so badly over the past 10 years to the point that it will definitely never happen. Had he righted himself upon his return to the WWE in 2002, I believe he could have won a world title at some point over the course of the next few years, but alas, it was not to be.
Worst: Avoiding the obvious choices in David Arquette, Vince McMahon and Vince Russo, I'll go ahead and say Jack Swagger. He should not have won MITB, he should not have won a World Title. I'm not saying he's not good enough, but the time was not right for him to be a champion. Even now he's still too green and isn't over enough to be a champion, and yes, he had some high points during his run that were a bit entertaining, but not on the level of what a World Champion should be. The worst part about it is that once he lost it, and has fallen down the card so heavily, it's only hurt him even more. |

As far as worse champions, if were throwing Russos name in, I'm gonna say Vince Machons's title reign too. He was the Chairman of the board and he pins HHH before Russo or Arquette won the belt
|
Best: Scott Hall
Worst: Bret Hart |
How is Bret Hart the worst?
|
[Insert Gertner attempt at humor here.]
|
Hitting the WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY Back Machine for my choices.
Best: Billy Robinson (Verne didn't give him the belt for fear of being unable to get it back.) Worst: Ronnie Garvin (HAHA! found one worse that was actually a wrestler.) |
Best Virgil
Worst: Vincent (nWo) Yeah, that's right he's both! |
Mr Perfect
David Arquette. |
Best: Curt Henning
Worst: Khali |
