Nintendo should reimagine Zelda in a more mature way...

Imagine how great it would be for Nintendo to create a brand new Zelda game with a mature twist to it. Instead of the kiddy, PG feel, make it adult. Think AmericanMcGee's reimagining of Alice in Wonderland. I think this could really become a classic.

Just imagine, a Link like this...

And subsequent game changes, more violence etc. Make it a side story...could really get good sales I think...

#BROKEN Hasney 09-25-2011 01:54 PM

No, that would fucking suck. Everything is "mature" now and I hate it so much. Why not make everything brown and add multiplayer with a perk streak? Fuck.

bbb...but manly link is awesome :wtf:

loopydate 09-25-2011 01:58 PM

Yeah, of all franchises, Zelda should definitely NOT be re-imagined.

Kalyx triaD 09-25-2011 02:02 PM

No.

Mike the Metal Ed 09-25-2011 02:29 PM

That looks dreadful. Play Darksiders if you want "mature" Zelda.

OssMan 09-25-2011 02:31 PM

That isn't even re-imagining it, that's just dumbing down and Americanizing it. Just make a Zelda mod for Duke Nukem if that's what you want.

Besides Darksiders, the closest Zelda has gotten to being "mature" would have been Majora's Mask but that was more towards how the story was than anything else. Until the last play attempt, you could never save the world and the moon would have crashed each time while you time traveled away.

Requiem 09-25-2011 03:38 PM

I just wish they wouldn't do this continuous cartoony nonsense ala windwaker and this new one coming out. They can have a vibrant, stylized world, without turning it into a cartoon. Twilight Princess was a good start, but until they get a Zelda in HD, I doubt we'll see anything with 'impressive' visuals.

Requiem 09-25-2011 03:40 PM

Also, that picture is terrible. I would pray for a game like that to fail and I would hate the developers for bastardizing one of my favorite games.

loopydate 09-25-2011 04:13 PM

Wind Waker was fantastic. People that blast it for the visuals annoy the crap out of me. The story was great, the gameplay was classic Zelda, and - most importantly - it was fun. Absolutely great game that gets way too much crap for its graphics.

#BROKEN Hasney 09-25-2011 04:15 PM

I'm actually annoyed that that Skyward Sword has the half way approach. I'd much prefer the Wind Waker art style, it is amazing.

Savio 09-25-2011 04:45 PM

They should actually make it less mature with more fart jokes and etc

Exactly.

I'm the same. The game is actually my second favourite Zelda game, right behind A Link to the Past. The game was just so enjoyable. The more I think about it now, the more I want to dig it out and play it.

Same here. Even though I still like the style that Skyward Sword has, I would have loved for a return on the Wind Waker art style. But personally, I'm just glad it's not the Twilight Princess art style again. I really didn't care for that art style and it was probably one of the reasons why I hardly played the game. :-\

Pintint 09-25-2011 05:25 PM

I guess im the only one who wants a dark, grim, violent Zelda game with a manly, buff Link
A pity
:(

Visuals are a perfectly valid reason to dislike a video game. Perfectly 100% valid reason.

loopydate 09-25-2011 05:55 PM

That would be true if the graphics were bad. They're not. They were just different.

Requiem 09-25-2011 06:00 PM

No, it's true regardless of if they're 'bad'.

loopydate 09-25-2011 06:10 PM

To each his own, I suppose.

I care more about the content of the game than I do the graphics, but I suppose it's wrong of me to assume that everybody feels the same way.

Requiem 09-25-2011 07:40 PM

I typically agree. I can deal with subpar graphics as long as the gameplay is strong. One of my favorite MMO's of all-time has atrocious graphics, but it is also a very old game so I can look past that.

But I absolutely can't stand the style of Windwaker's graphics. Doesn't have to do with the gameplay at all. I just feel that strongly about its visuals that I can't stand it. It gave the game a tone that made me not give a shit. It's more.. the gameplay is what I expect of a game in that particular series. It wasn't anything out of the ordinary, but the graphical style was a letdown.

Requiem 09-25-2011 07:53 PM

ie; I'd prefer a PG-ish tone to the series, not a G one.

Xero 09-25-2011 09:55 PM

I never understood why people go batshit insane over "realistic" graphics. I can understand hating a game on graphics and it pulling you out of the experience, but that's personal taste, in a similar way that, say, an anime may turn someone off because they don't like the style.

It also depends on the style of the game. GTA 4 in Wind Waker graphics would be a bit ridiculous because it wouldn't meld well with the rest of the concept. Wind Waker melded well with the concept.

I just feel that making games more "realistic-looking" kind of takes away from the charm of gaming. Yes, some games need it, but I feel a vast majority don't, and honestly tend to enjoy the "cartoonish" games more than "realistic" games.

As for the topic, no. Just no. It'd be like having a Mario game where he's shooting goombas in the face with an AK47 instead of fireballs.

Emperor Smeat 09-25-2011 10:05 PM

I liked Wind Waker's style although the sailing while good in idea wasn't that great until getting the warping song to make traveling faster. The game was a bit too big for its own good.

Twilight Princess might have been the only Zelda that had "realistic" or non-cartoony graphics so its not like the series has a history of that style. If anything, the Wind Waker style gave more expressions possible especially with Link's reaction to most stuff.

OssMan 09-25-2011 10:12 PM

Sailing was my favorite part of Wind Waker. That, combined with the graphics and the music gave the game an incredible feel.

It would ruin the draw to the series, man. The game is amaznig as it is, for the most part. This "Skyward Sword" one is gonna be the wildcard here.

But yeah, a total reimagining with a 'mature' twist like what your describing would ultimately kill it.

Xero 09-25-2011 10:14 PM

Yeah, the music really was epic.

<object style="height: 390px; width: 640px"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/gN_x1rpGbY8?version=3"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/gN_x1rpGbY8?version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="360"></object>

Fuck, now I want to play Wind Waker.

Though I will say that the sailing was a bit tedious after a while, until you got the warp song like Smelly Meatball said.

#BROKEN Hasney 09-26-2011 02:02 AM

I really hope the Wii U has a Wind Waker art game. If your PC is powerful enough, download Dolphin the GC/Wii emulator and run Wind Waker in HD. It is seriously one of the most beautiful games I have ever seen.

Skippord 09-26-2011 09:35 AM

as long as Zelda is a beaten down hooker and Ganondorf is her pimp who Link has to rescue her from I am in

I have never played a Legend Of Zelda game

I get the feeling you're going to be the only one who's into something a lot around here...

It's already been said. Mature Zelda = Darksiders

Bastardizing the concept won't help. 3 people (you included) will go "OMG manly Link!" All the LoZ fans will stop playing in disgust/not be old enough to even buy an M-rated game. Everyone else will not care and go "lol M-rated Zelda" without giving it a second look. Basically, your idea is Thrill Kill bad.

Kane Knight 10-01-2011 09:19 AM

Nintendo should reimagine Zelda, but not as a He-Man clone with an annoying twat of a fairy next to him. They should just come up with something new.

By which I mean new concepts, not making a Wiimote game with the same dozen dungeons and tools needed to complete them.

It's a Nintendo product. With Zelda in the name. You would buy fifty copies alone because you're a huge Nintendofag. All the 30-something manchildren that are Nintendo's core base would follow suit.

Why did you say this?

He's right in general. It's a Nintendo product with Zelda in the name. The fanboys would go batshit over it and buy it no matter what.

I'm pretty sure they think about Zelda in a more mature way all the time. I just don't think we'll be seeing those games outside of boardroom fantasies and tentacle rape sketches.
