Billy 'The Body' Corgan Enters Wrestling Business

Steve Austin. Jesse "the Body" Ventura. Now professional wrestling can add a new name to its impressive list of bald-headed stars: Billy Corgan. The Smashing Pumpkins frontman has formed his own professional wrestling company.

SP will be performing at Chicago's Riviera Theatre tonight as part of a tour to promote ninth album Oceania, due in late November. But Corgan is also acting as creative director of the new firm Resistance Pro, he told FOX News Chicago. "We're going to try to bring back to Chicago some of the glory days," he said, drawing a contrast with the more "entertainment"-focused WWE. "We want to go back to a little more old-school kind of feel." Resistance Pro's first wrestling event takes place November 25 at Excalibur in Chicago; more information is on their website.

Corgan is no stranger to the world of wrestling. In fact, rock music and professional wrestling happen to have a lot in common, he tells Detroit News. "You have a very strong indie scene, and a lot of times guys and girls build up their names there, and when they try to go to the big leagues they get a lot of [grief] from fans saying, 'You sold out,' etc," he says. "It's totally the same thing as in music." Also: Bob Mould. And that time Corgan was attacked onstage by a crew of Mexican wrestlers. Now it's only a matter of days before James Iha smashes his former bandmate over the head with a chair.

Fans disappointed by some of Corgan's antics during his band's most recent tour have wrestling to blame. He has at times played the wrestling role known as the "heel," as opposed to the good guy or "babyface," he acknowledges to Detroit News, saying audiences "just aren't sophisticated enough to know that I'm playing around." But this time he isn't playing, he says: "That guy's been put to bed. I'm babyface from now on."

So is Corgan gay? I don't really follow celebrity personal lives, but it's pretty much the only reason you tend to post things.

um no he isn't AFAIK

Gertner 10-17-2011 01:54 PM

Beth is way too gay.

Oh, and just what we need, another workrate promotion.

glanville6 10-17-2011 02:19 PM

Maybe I'll go...but, I bet I won't. I saw him at a different indy promotion in Chicago, AAW. Told me he'd sign for me, but he walked by me...prick.

There is a reason old school is no longer prevalent and is called, you know, old school.

Razzamajazz 10-17-2011 02:37 PM

watch it be one of those hardcore garbage wrestling promotions

St. Jimmy 10-17-2011 02:39 PM

:meh: It won't be as cool as WRP is going to be.

LOL at the way this is worded. We want to go back to how wrestling was before it was entertaining.

to me I'd rather watch a wrestling show from 1981 then some of the crap served up in 2011

much more fun time to be a fan.

yes just because you hate old school you automatically gotta crap on his idea.

Billy is a lifelong fan of wrestling.

No, it's because it was worded clumsily, you fucking retard.

Does your brain go straight to the dumbest possible accusation naturally, or did you have to train it to do it?

Rammsteinmad 10-17-2011 04:46 PM

Billy Corgan is overated.

He sounds like an idiot. You go to a wrestling show expecting a bad guy to act the part. You might go to a comedy show expecting to be joked about. I don't know of too many people who go to a music concert expecting the singer to be a jackass.

Nickelback/Metallica fans?

Anyway, I'm not sure he was acting. This is a dude who sickened associates of Korn and Manson. His reputation has cost the band a decent bit, which would probably be a bigger deal if they weren't so big losing management or tour dates now and again isn't even worth losing sleep over.

But since the IWC is like 90% self-loathing sociopaths, I predict he'll be a smark darling.

When did I say I hate old school wrestling? And I don't mean in this thread, I mean ever.

bigslimjj 10-18-2011 03:02 AM

Rat in a cage match kicking off the show. Followed by The Infinite sadness battle royal. Where even if you win, your girl leaves you and someone kicks you in the nuts.

Seth does it all the time. You say something "bad" about something he likes, so it must be a systematic hatred of it.
