Before or After: Kane

It’s “before or after” time!!!! This time around, The Big Red Machine is the topic. Was Kane better before or after June 23, 2003, the date he lost a world title match to Triple H on RAW (oh, and that thing he wore on his face)?

Juan 10-22-2011 11:45 PM

100% before. He's been in a couple of good programs after, but everything before is more memorable.

Kane Knight 10-22-2011 11:49 PM

Was he better before or after May 19th?

Poit 10-23-2011 12:04 AM

Before. I miss masked Kane.

I was hoping that after WWECW ended, the Hurricane would reuinite with Kane and get him to start wearing the mask again. Alas, it did not happen.

screech 10-23-2011 12:14 AM

Before. Once the mask came off, he had some good stuff as Juan said. But there were quite a few opportunities to put the belt on him or at least elevate him a bit more that were missed. That could have been Kane's choice to stay in his position, but still.

His work under the mask is definitely more memorable.

Huge fan of the guy no matter what, though.

Lock Jaw 10-23-2011 02:05 AM

Before.

But on the whole, Kane's character has been a mixed bag. More ups and downs then a Chinese roller coaster.

One moment he is badass.

The next he is kinda "eh".

The next moment it looks like he is going to be badass, but then it goes nowhere.

Then back to "eh".

Then to badass.

Etc. Repeat.

I think his "highs" were better Before, though.

I did love his World Title Run until his feud with Edge, though.

DaVe 10-23-2011 02:14 AM

Yeah, I think the build up and early stages of his 2nd title run were absolutely great work, his best, imo. But overall his career peaked in 1998.

The Pope 10-23-2011 02:19 AM

Before all the way, when the other wrestlers were "scared" of him, it was actually pretty believable because he was so mysterious.

I agree with before.

As far as I miss masked Kane, this is true. Also, him "saying" SUCK IT was just lame.

Shisen Kopf 10-23-2011 07:33 AM

Definetely before. This is a no brainer. What's next, Bret Hart WWF or WCW?

Rammsteinmad 10-23-2011 08:28 AM

Before.

But I absolutely loved when Kane first lost the mask and when on this crazy rampage all over the place. Remember so well how he took those chair shots from Shane and then fell off the stage, only to sit up and look all demented into the camera etc. Incredible. :D

i thought kanes fued with shane was great, he had never looked more demonic and crazy..i remember one segment where shane knocked kane into a burning dumpster, only for kanes hand to come rising out of it..good stuff

Corporate CockSnogger 10-23-2011 12:12 PM

Before. For a while after his debut he was the perfect "monster" character. While he also had some good moments after losing the mask, there was never quite that same intensity.

Before he would talk, he could say so much more with just the tilt of his head than he ever has with words.

Stickman 10-23-2011 12:22 PM

Pretty sure everyone will say before. I wouldn't mind if they killed off the character altogether now. He's a jobber with entrance music and has been since the mask came off, regardless of world championships.

Before, definetely. Character was more interesting, had a "mystique" around him and was overall a much more credible force.

Does a Chinese roller coaster have especially more ups and downs than other roller coasters?

Lock Jaw 10-23-2011 01:47 PM

Dunno. Just had to put another word in front of "roller coaster".

Skippord 10-23-2011 01:53 PM

There were a few moments where it looked like Kane Unmasked was going to be EPIC.

But sadly, yes, they missed the boat.
