Biggest Let down in games

This could be answered in a bunch of ways. Could be the game that you down the most, could be a feature, could be the ending to a game. Whatever. What is the biggest dissapointment you ever had as a gamer?

For me it's Dragon Age 2 easy. Never felt so crushed. I anticipated this more than more than i think i had anticipated any other game. the origional was just...wow. cant speak highly enough abnout origions. (which ironically i only purchased cause i thjought DA2 looked tops and wanted to play the origional first.) But the 2nd...

The story was really interesting, the ending definitly makes me want to see where there going with it, mostly cause i LOVE the lore. But if the game play doesnt get some depth back and if my choices continue to have no relevence to the climax the next Dragon Age wont only be my last Dragon Age it will be my last Bioware title.

So what are yours?

I loved Dragon Age 2. Finished it about 5 times.

Marvel V Capcom 3 is one for sure. RE5 was pretty shocking. RE4 was so well recieved, why fuck with it to add multiplayer to the back of your box, fuck them. Rage is up there too.

I so dont see how...

I also loved DA2, and I hated the first.

I think because it was much simpler to manage everything. I don't like the traditional RPG, which I guess the first was? I like the actiony kinds. Also preferred ME2 over the first.

Captain of Fun 10-23-2011 10:57 AM

I think everyone preferred ME2 over the first. Awesome game.

On topic, I'd say Mercenaries 2.

I can understand that. For me it was the removal of choice and the removal of the tactical elements (the really only exist in theory in DA2 even on nightmare micromanaging or AI programing isnt really needed...unless you take a two hander...dps damn to your whole party = fail...anyway.) if you only want a action rpg then i can see why you like DA2 because the combat is fast paced and over powerd. and if you're a power leveler then this game could be fun.

though there is no forgiving them only using like 6 maps for everything.

Right, but I remember tons of bitching about inventory management and things were "dumbed down".

the game was most def dumbed down and streamlined, but they made it work.

Really. Coulda sworn you were one of the "They changed it, now it sucks" folks in this case.

ME2.

I could live with it if they just stripped out RPG elements like "lewt" and such, but the exploration is limited to conform with shooter levels, the design isn't a step up, I don't like switching away from ammo cooldowns, and most of all...fuck the story sideways.

I mean, I'll admit, there was virtually NOTHING original about the story in the first one, but it was entertaining. Engrossing. Interesting. While I knew the clichés, I didn't care. Call it The Last Airbender Effect, because Avatar did more or less the same thing and again, I didn't fucing care because it was awesome.

Mass Erect 2 was 80% keeping time. They tore everything apart so you'd have to build everything back up again, and that's just bad. It gets compared to Empire Strikes Back and that's true, if you trip out on shrooms and imagine that Empire was nothing more than a series of fetch quests for loyalty.

No, the story of ME2 falls into a rather new cliché, "marking time in episode 2 because we need to pad this shit out for a trilogy." Which is funny, because with the ME novels written by one of the dudes who wrote ME, and the comics and shit, with all the DLC stories they're offering, they had more than two chapters worth of ideas.

I don't mind the second act slowing down a bit, but this ground to a motherfucking halt.

....Unless you just wanted to shooty shooty aliens from behind chest-high walls, in which case you probably weren't intending to buy a Bioware title in the first place.

Not being able to actually use the wiimote like a lightsaber in lightsaber duels

#BROKEN Hasney 10-23-2011 11:21 AM

I preffered the mechanics of the first Dragon Age but the story of DA2 is what kept me going.

Could have done with more Alasdair though.

That is crazy. Why wouldn't they do that

Emperor Smeat 10-23-2011 03:36 PM

Hate endings that are set up blatantly just for a sequel like the ending of Rainbow Six Vegas has the main villain flying away in a helicopter while you can't do anything to stop it even though you can actually shoot at the helicopter.

The game itself was good and full of action but then tosses a curveball in the story at the last minute just to make sure Vegas 2 was required to actually end the story.

Cliffhangers as a rule don't work in games.

Fable, Fable 2, Fable 3, and probably every Fable that will come out.

G 10-23-2011 06:46 PM

Fable 2 was greatness minus the shitty co op and lag :(

I was enjoying it for the first few gates, then things just started to suck. Especially once you become Queen. Jesus fuck why

I have TLC on my computer which I pick up every now and then. So far seems to be pretty good.

First one's the only one I really enjoyed. I didn't hate F2 or anything, but it wasn't very big on my list o' games.

I'll get around to finishing it one of these days.

The Fable games aren't really disappointments to me. Mostly because the first one was pretty damn good, and anyone stupid enough to believe Peter Molyneux's hype after 1 should probably just walk in front of a bus and get it over with,.

D Mac 10-23-2011 07:53 PM

As far as games go the Force Unleashed was pretty dissapointing. Endings, I would have to say Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2.

Not saying you're wrong, but I got what I wanted out of TFU. Which was a big destructo-sandbox with lightsabers.

From the looks of things, though, TFU 2 was a MASSIVE letdown. It was like Peter Molyneux did the PR for the game or something.

Destor 10-23-2011 07:58 PM

Am I the only one sick of 10hr pop corn blockbuster action games? (God of War, FOrce Unleashed, etc)

Jari 10-23-2011 08:00 PM

The end of Metal Gear Solid 2

Quite a bizarre storyline that ultimately makes sense by the time the game ends. Only problem being that in order to get to that point you have to watch a cut sequence that feels as if it lasts for hours before the final part of the game which is quite a lame battle with Solidus.

Cue the whole thing about the Patriots being ghosts...

They have their place, IMO. The God of War series is <3. 3 was kind of a letdown compared to the first 2 games. God of War 2 on Titan mode was one of the legit hardest games I have ever played. Instead of beating it, it thoroughly crushed my soul and myself and a friend gave up. :(

They're good for some mindless slaughtering. And the harder difficulties of the GoW series require you to be damn near perfect in your execution of combos, blocks, and dodging or they would destroy you.

Kane Knight 10-23-2011 08:08 PM

Star Wars Rogue Squadron 3: Rebel Strike was a fair-sized letdown. I really didn't own a lot of Gamecube titles, but Rogue Squadron 2 and Skies of Arcadia to me were worth the price of admission. Ironic, since one was a remake....

With Rebel Strike, it was clear they were out of scenarios. Which is kind of a shame, because they hadn't even exhausted the scenarios from the movies, let alone Star Wars. Hell, I would have loved to have seen a few more space fights from the bad guys' side. Or revisiting a couple scenariions from the N64 one.

But nooooooo....They pad the fucker out with half a dozen on-foot missions. While I joke about the Star Fox titles, I hear the on-foot stuff was actually decent. That's the difference between SF and RS.

yeah GOW 3 sucked imo. The 1st two were fun, maybe even great, my issue is this 10 (slightly plus) game still cost $60 when i could buy a 40-80hr game for the same price...

I LOVE the rogue squadren games, but 3 is a HUGE let down and step back from the series.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent
Final Fantasy 8
Final Fantasy 9
Final Fantasy 10
Final Fantasy 10-2
Final Fantasy 11
Final Fantasy 12

That's off top of my head.

Destor 10-24-2011 05:38 AM

i think the term "biggest" is really giving you issues

Londoner 10-24-2011 05:41 AM

What doesn't give him issues?

El Fangel 10-24-2011 06:02 AM

all those I had high expectations for either cause I played the previous game in the series or it was hyped/told it was good.

El Fangel 10-24-2011 06:05 AM

In terms of biggest letdown though, top 3

MGS4
Halo 2
FFX

Destor 10-24-2011 06:07 AM

MGS4? how so? (your opinion and such, just curious)

El Fangel 10-24-2011 06:43 AM

MGS3 is my favorite game and has been since I first completed it.

MGS4 seemed to be like "omfg gaiz, les cram as many great looking movie like cutscences as possible onto this bluray disc"

With the abilities of a new system and storage medium capable of 10x the storage, I didn't expect an inferior game and its why I sold my PS3.

Destor 10-24-2011 06:46 AM

i suppose thats valid

El Fangel 10-24-2011 06:49 AM

Then again, I'm not sure I'm being fair as I didn't expect it to be as good anyways. Same with Halo 2.

I suppose FFX would be. It was a chance at redemption. after 8 and 9. Wasn't up to 7's standard at all and spawned the first sequel ill never forgive them for.

Destor 10-24-2011 06:56 AM

i actually replayed MGS4 2 weeks ago, admittedly not as good as snake eater, but still (for me) one of the all time great games.
