How do shitty workers keep getting over JUST because they have a catch phrase?

Looking at you Zack Ryder...

Xero 10-24-2011 10:54 PM

He got over for his internet show, not the catch phrase.

Destor 10-24-2011 10:54 PM

Supreme Olajuwon 10-24-2011 10:55 PM

XCaliber 10-24-2011 10:59 PM

If Ryder is a poor worker than Cena really is the best in the world.

Supreme Olajuwon 10-24-2011 10:59 PM

After a pin attempt you should scream at the ref "I HAVE TILL THREE"

see if that or some variation of that catches on

there is nothing about that logic that holds. ryder being shit does not make cena not shit.

FYI I hate this show...just know it fits...

Juan 10-24-2011 11:44 PM

Zack Ryder won me over in his ECW days. Dude had awesome matches with Christian

Juan 10-24-2011 11:45 PM

When I think of "shitty workers" Zack Ryder doesn't usually spring to mind tbh.

Christian is a work horse and a carrying machine.

JimmyMess 10-24-2011 11:55 PM

I'm paraphrasing but essentially Hall put it best...

"When he came out, the people cheered, and you can't teach that. They either like you or they don't"

Juan 10-24-2011 11:55 PM

Judge for yourself

Juan 10-24-2011 11:57 PM

I agree

screech 10-25-2011 01:05 AM

I also agree.

Captain of Fun 10-25-2011 01:12 AM

The Miz is not a shitty worker.

These two don't spring to my mind when I think shitty worker.

Majunior 10-25-2011 01:21 AM

Yeah, alot of those guys may not be exceptional talents, but they're not shitty. I've seen far worse ring-work and far less charisma.

At least they bring something to the table.

St. Jimmy 10-25-2011 01:58 AM

The Rock. /thread

Juan 10-25-2011 02:20 AM

lol

#BROKEN Hasney 10-25-2011 04:22 AM

I never got the Ryder thing either really. Fair enough if people want to see him, but I was thinking he's pretty funny on YouTube, but so is T-BOOOOOOONE and I'm not campaigning for him to be on Raw.

Aguakate 10-25-2011 04:38 AM

Ryder can only ride this "Internet thingy" for so long...he'll be out of tv by Spring.

The Godfather

Tazz Dan 10-25-2011 04:41 AM

Also, I'd much rather be seeing Ryder/Ziggler than Ryan/Ziggler

Him.

Road Dogg was SHIT as a wrestler. All he had was that Michael Buffer rip-off intro.

Mr. Nerfect 10-25-2011 04:51 AM

Most of the guys mentioned here don't seem that shitty to me. Maybe not the best workers ever, but Ryder is definitely one of the bright spots when he gets into the ring. I loved his matches in ECW and on Superstars.

Although I agree that Rock got over mostly on his mic work, to put him in the same category as Zack Ryder is a bit of a stretch.

The Rock's in-ring work isn't GREAT, so WWE is really taking a risk by having him wrestle at Survivor Series, because once the novelty of seeing The Rock in the ring wears off, and he begins to actually wrestle, fans may just get bored, and turn on him...which could make for a heel turn, but still...

XL 10-25-2011 05:01 AM

Should replace "shitty" with "average" in the thread title. Ryder, Miz, Anderson, Rock, etc are all "average" at worst.

All he needs to do is play the guy on the apron until Cena tags him in, and he hits all his signature moves on The Miz & R-Truth as the place goes APESHIT! Then the heels get a bit in on him, Cena makes the save, BAM! He turns around into a Rock Bottom and then The Rock walks out awaiting their match at Mania while Truth & Miz finish off Johnny Boy.

Not much of a risk.

I'm in no way saying Ryder is on The Rock's level overall, but he was never that good in the ring. Would Dwayne be who he is today if he couldn't work a mic and had to get over on ring talent alone? Take away all that, I wouldn't say he's much better at all.

Jura 10-25-2011 07:45 AM

Even if Rock's wrestling at SS isn't great or even really good, he still has charisma flowing out the ass so every bump, every step, every punch and kick, clothesline, facial expression, etc is gonna have some charismatic presence. He may not be one of the great "wrestlers" but he is one of the best performers.

Tazz Dan 10-25-2011 07:58 AM

Not arguing that either, but this thread is about shitty workers getting over with catchphrases. Given time Ryder could possibly be the same. Very slim chance, but even I never thought the Blue Chipper Rocky Miavia would ever amount to anything.
