The best movies you've never seen?

What are some of those 'greatest movies of all time' types that you've never seen?

I've never seen any of the Godfather movies, nor have I seen all of Titanic (I tried watching it twice, but both times fell asleep in the first half hour... Not because it was boring, just me being tired at the time).

XL 10-28-2011 07:13 AM

Feel like we did this thread not so long ago. That said...

Apocalypse Now
Blade Runner
Brokeback Mountain
Casino
Raging Bull
Requiem For A Dream
Scarface
Taxi Driver

Those are just the ones I own on DVD. Although, not all of those qualify as 'Greatest Movies of All Time'.

XL 10-28-2011 07:17 AM

Add to that Godfather Trilogy, Schindler's List, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, Seven Samurai, Casablanca, Once Upon A Time In The West, Indiana Jones, It's A Wonderful Life, Sunset Boulevard, Dr Strangelove, North By Northwest, Citizen Kane, Spirited Away, Vertigo, City Lights, Amelie and Paths of Glory.

All of those are from the IMDb Top 50.

You own them on DVD and haven't seen them?

XL 10-28-2011 08:10 AM

Yes. Haven't got around to watching them (despite owning some of them for nearly 10 years!). Probably should sort that out.

Sixx 10-28-2011 08:19 AM

From what you listed in the first post, I only haven't seen Brokeback Mountain and I'm not really looking forward to fixing that.

XL 10-28-2011 09:03 AM

That was bought as part of a "bulk purchase" when the local Blockbuster closed down.

On top of the films already named, I also have the following yet to watch:

American Graffitti
American Gangster
Assassination of Jesse James
Collateral
Hustle & Flow
3 seasons of Mad Men

:-\

Sixx 10-28-2011 09:13 AM

Assasination of Jesse James blows.

Expected a fuckin' western and all I got was a bitchfest.

Tommy Gunn 10-28-2011 09:50 AM

Casablanca
Gone With The Wind
Rear Window
Usual Suspects
Psycho
Metropolis

Eklipse 10-30-2011 06:07 PM

Lock Jaw 10-30-2011 07:23 PM

Have not seen any of The Godfather movies, or any of the Clint Eastwood "Man With No Name" movies.

Lock Jaw 10-30-2011 07:24 PM

Also, not a horror movie fan. So I have never seen pretty much any of those. With the exceptions of Carrie and Poltergeist. Which I had to watch for class.

Xero 10-30-2011 08:09 PM

Gonna go from the IMDB top 20.

Shawshank Redemption
Godfather Part 2 (Didn't see 3 either)
The Good, The Bad and the Ugly

One Flew Over the Cukoo's Nest
Lord of the Rings: Return of the King
Inception
Fight Club

Honestly, pretty much 90% of Disney movies pre-Toy Story.

I've had them "downloaded" for ages, but every time I contemplate watching it I'm always "Ehhhhh.... do I really want to watch a movie this long right now?" and the answer is always no.

XL 11-01-2011 02:42 PM

Yeah, the ones in my collection that I'm yet to see are mostly "heavy" films that I'd have to concentrate on. Tend to stick a comedy on if I just need something to watch.

XL 11-01-2011 02:43 PM

Shawshank Redemption
12 Angry Men
Inception
Fight Club

Xero, you need to get on those. 12 Angry Men is probably my favourite film.

Triple A 11-01-2011 03:09 PM

39. 8.5 Toy Story 3 (2010)
44. 8.5 Alien (1979)
47. 8.5 City Lights (1931)
59. 8.4 Aliens (1986)
61. 8.4 Modern Times (1936)
63. 8.4 Das Boot (1981)
77. 8.3 Rashomon (1950)
83. 8.3 Singin' in the Rain (1952)
86. 8.3 Bicycle Thieves (1948)
89. 8.3 Braveheart (1995)
93. 8.3 Oldboy (2003)
95. 8.3 Unforgiven (1992)

El Vaquero de Infierno 11-01-2011 03:22 PM

I tried watching 2001: A Space Odyssey once, but I found the opening scenes with the apes so naff that I turned over to watch something else.

whiteyford 11-01-2011 04:15 PM

Im shocked at how many people haven't watched the Godfather trilogy, or at least the 1st two.

Lock Jaw 11-01-2011 04:30 PM

I hereby pledge to watch them this weekend. Maybe.

Xero 11-01-2011 06:03 PM

Juan should do a movie marathon in the Vault of the top movies TPWW hasn't seen.

mitch_h 11-01-2011 10:40 PM

The Great Escape
Das Boot
Bridge On the River Kwai
Doctor Zhivago

Hanso Amore 11-03-2011 10:13 AM

Never seen any of the Godfathers.

Never saw any movie made before 1970 pretty much.

Wow, No braveheart? Not that its great, but its on TV all the time. Some of those are much easier to have not seen.

Emperor Smeat 11-03-2011 02:50 PM

I've seen bits and pieces from the Godfather trilogy but never a whole movie from either of the 3 films.

Most of unseen films in the Top 100 from IMDB I have no real interest in seeing besides:
The Usual Suspects
Citizen Kane
Toy Story 3
Das Boot

I have seen liek 20 min "chunks" of that and Unforgiven the Alien movies and stuff but never the entire movies.

RP 11-04-2011 04:31 AM

How the fuck would I know?

XL 11-04-2011 04:57 AM

As in "How do I know they're great movies if I've never seen them?".

We're talking about movies that are universally regarded as "great movies".

Sixx 11-04-2011 08:59 AM

Yeah, dumbass.

Nark Order 11-04-2011 02:23 PM

Slumdog Millionaire. I think I took a stand against it though after it won its ten thousandth award though.

I couldn't think of one until I saw Gone With the Wind on your list.

KaosDarksol 11-06-2011 02:27 AM

The twilight movies... Oh I'm sorry you said best

Sixx 11-06-2011 05:31 AM

Watching Twilight with a bunch of friends while shitfaced is actually amazing.

RiX1024 11-06-2011 05:51 AM

Stand By Me....great story.

ClockShot 11-06-2011 06:40 AM

Just off the top of my head.

True to my word, I have just finished watching The Godfather Part I. Thought it was decent. Definitely overrated. Felt like it could have been a much better movie if parts of it were cut, condensed, and tweaked.
