College Hoops 2011-2012 season thread

Probably going to be the only basketball games in a while considering the NBA lockout is currently in a huge mess.

Still hate Verizon Fios for the lack of local sports channel which means I'm going to miss out on all of URI's games and even A-10 games and some non-ESPN Big East games that Cox Cable carries.

RP 11-12-2011 01:36 AM

Robbie Hummel can fuck my sisters right now and I would high five him afterwards.

Evil Vito 11-12-2011 12:35 PM

Jeremy Lamb is a fucking beast.

ClockShot 11-12-2011 01:48 PM

Kemba Walker is probably kicking himself for leaving early. Please come back. :'(

Droford 11-15-2011 12:01 AM

If I didnt have to go to work tomorrow Id probably watch some of these games in this 24 hour marathon. Nothing like a live basketball game at 4am.

RP 11-15-2011 09:38 AM

Robbie Hummel, 18pts, 5 boards, 4 ast, 1 block. Filling it up and topping it off. The Golden God is back!

RP 11-18-2011 04:29 AM

Robbie Hummel will be National Player of The Year. Just gunna go ahead and call that now.

Droford 11-18-2011 10:57 AM

OK St's womens coaches both died in a plane crash.

10 years ago they lost 10 people affiliated with the Mens basketball team in a plane crash.

RP 11-18-2011 01:17 PM

Robbie Hummel show on ESPNU right now.

Supreme Olajuwon 11-29-2011 08:44 AM

Purdue coming to Xavier on Saturday. Might have to try to get tickets for that.

But more importantly, Ohio State vs. Duke tonight.

RP 11-30-2011 03:20 AM

Purdue v Xavier is a huge game. If my car wasn't jacked up right now, is road trip that. You'll enjoy the Robbie Hummel show.

Supreme Olajuwon 12-10-2011 03:26 PM

Tremendous brawl to end the Xavier/Cincy game today. Best I've seen since the pistons/pacers riot.

Press Conference with Cincinnati head coach Mick Cronin

That shot by Watford will become a thing of legends in Indiana. If you don't live in IN or KY, you might not get it, but there is a massive rivalry from High School to college basketball with these two states. Watford will never have to pay for a meal in this state again.

Cincy-Xavier update:

Quote:

Cincinnati and Xavier each suspended four players Sunday for their roles in a brawl that ended the Bearcats' blowout loss to No. 8 Xavier a day earlier.

Yancy Gates, Octavius Ellis and Cheikh Mbodj will be suspended six games each, the school said in a news release. Ge'Lawn Guyn will be banned for one game.

Mick Cronin Could See Trouble Brewing
The brawl at the end of Saturday's game was so crazy, Cincinnati coach Mick Cronin needed to spend time with his daughter to get away from the stress. Then he sat down and watched the video, writes Andy Katz. Blog

Xavier suspended Landen Amos and Dez Wells four games each, Mark Lyons two games, and Tu Holloway one game.

Cincinnati's suspensions will begin with the Bearcats' next game Wednesday at Wright State. They include the NCAA's one-game suspensions that automatically result for ejections from fighting. The suspended players will not travel to the Wright State game, Cincinnati coach Mick Cronin told ESPN.com.

Cronin also said he could still add to his players' suspensions.

"After reviewing all available video and giving due deliberation to the seriousness of this behavior, we have decided to take these actions," Cincinnati athletic director Whit Babcock said in the statement. "We want to deal with this in a prompt and direct manner and send the message that we will not tolerate this from those who have the privilege of representing the University of Cincinnati."

Gates connected with a punch to Xavier's Kenny Frease and Mbodj then stepped on Frease, who emerged with a bloodied face and a black eye.

The fight forced game officials to call the 76-53 win for Xavier with 9.4 seconds left on Saturday.

Officials amended the postgame box score and ejected Gates, Mbodj and Xavier's Wells, who will also be required to miss at least one game based on the NCAA mandate.

"We accept full responsibility for our part in the events that occurred at the end of our game yesterday," Xavier athletic director Mike Bobinski said in a statement Sunday. "It was both embarrassing and disappointing and clearly did not reflect the standards of behavior we expect from our student-athletes. We resolve to do whatever is necessary to prevent an incident like this from occurring in the future. Additionally, we regret the poorly-chosen words our student-athletes used in the post-game press conference and have addressed the matter with them."

Big East associate commissioner Dan Gavitt said the NCAA rule cannot be appealed, and if any player is suspended for a game because of a fight and gets in another altercation, then he would be suspended for the rest of the season.

"The very unfortunate events that occurred in the final seconds of Saturday's Cincinnati-Xavier basketball game have no place within intercollegiate athletics," Big East commissioner John Marinatto said Sunday in a statement. "The University of Cincinnati has responded with swift, expeditious and appropriate action, which the Big East Conference fully supports."

Had no idea where Xavier was until this week. Like I knew of the school, but never really knew where.

Emperor Smeat 01-03-2012 09:29 PM

 Wisconsin has some really bad luck right now with clocks.

Lost last night in football due to the clock and now tonight at home they had their clocks not synched up for the final play which erased the game winning shot. Refs decided the backboard clock was correct instead of potentially the side table clock which would have made the shot count.

Gertner 01-05-2012 10:44 AM

Great game between Duke and Temple.

Michigan State and Michigan both great this year. Gonna be a good rivalry.

Yeah, Sparties hoops have already well exceeded my wildest expectations. I didn't think they'd be @ 14-2 at this juncture, seeing as how it's somewhat of a rebuilding year, but I'm pleasantly surprised to see I was wrong so far.

ClockShot 02-03-2012 02:43 PM

UConn coach Jim Calhoun is taking an indefinate medical leave.

Get well soon, coach. :'(

What a game! UConn

Emperor Smeat 03-07-2012 04:45 PM

Yeah the Big East tournament is easily the best of all the tournaments leading up to the big one. Sucks that this year might be the last great year due to a bunch of members leaving.

Evil Vito 03-08-2012 01:58 PM

Damn. UConn couldn't make a shot when it mattered most today.

OssMan 03-08-2012 02:16 PM

Let's go NC State

also GMU GMU GMU

which Virginia team will make the Final Four this year

Emperor Smeat 03-11-2012 07:14 PM

Bracket was released with Kentucky, UNC, Michigan State, and Syracuse getting #1 seeds. Kentucky is the #1 overall.

Duke got protected as a #2 seed since they play as usual in Greensboro but are in Kentucky's bracket. Kentucky and UNC were still rewarded with #1 seeds while Kansas was out of the running for a #1 seed.

http://espn.go.com/mens-college-bask...ket-selections

A-10 did really great with 4 teams even though ESPN kept pushing for a 2 or less for the conference so that the Pac-12 and SEC could get more teams. Mountain West also got 4 teams in while the Pac-12 got punished with just 2 teams.

ClockShot 03-11-2012 08:15 PM

Duke don't got an easy road this season. Surprised my UConn Huskies made it in even though it was a down year. However, looks like Syracuse got an easy route to the final 4. Probably because they're on their way out of the Big East after this season.

SammyG 03-11-2012 08:37 PM

MONTANA OVER WISCONSIN NIGGGAAAA

Savio 03-11-2012 09:57 PM
