Before or After: Christian

It’s time again for One More Edition of “Before or After.” This week, BoA discusses Christian. No stranger to gold, he earned his share in both WWE and TNA. Was Captain Charisma better before or after he left the “E” for the “A”?

Rammsteinmad 11-12-2011 07:54 PM

Pretty touch choice, but went with after. His stuff before was golden, but his stuff after really stepped it up a level. I think his taste of heavyweight gold in TNA really bought out Christian at his best, so that when he returned to WWE he was hungrier than ever.

Plus, he has probably been the most consistant superstar this year. Fantastic year for Christian, with every PPV, Raw and Smackdown match or promo being stellar.

Lock Jaw 11-12-2011 08:26 PM

After. I honestly think his TNA stint is probably the "best" incarnation of Christian ever. Of course, that could be because I am biased.

Shisen Kopf 11-12-2011 09:16 PM

Before because that is the correct answer.

tjmidnight420 11-13-2011 12:44 AM

I'm going with before. He managed to get himself over with no support from the company. Then they made him the main event jobber.

Tom Guycott 11-13-2011 03:12 AM

I'm going with "before" merely for the superficial reason of the original "At Last" entrance alone. Seriously, that kicked so much ass, what with the golden pyro curtains and the opera music that got him face pops when he was clearly a heel. With all that, you just KNEW he was about to get a push to become a big deal...

But I'm a mark for Christian either way.

Wouldn't this be BoA?

erickman 11-13-2011 06:50 AM

i go with after i loved when he was tna champ the same time as edge was wwe champ.

Rammsteinmad 11-13-2011 07:07 AM

Does CaptainCharismark still post here? I'd be interested to see what he thinks of Christians stuff recently since his feud with Orton ended.

Ultra Mantis 11-13-2011 07:37 AM

I'm sure whatever he thinks will be dripping with invisible sarcasm.

I'm going with before, purely because I loved the original version of Just Close Your Eyes. Oh yeah, and because he was pure gold ever since he left the brood. I do love Christian's recent one more match schtick though and he's been one of the most consistent guys in the past two years, I'd mark out if he ever won the strap again but it doesn't look very likely.

jskinnyg 11-13-2011 11:26 AM

Honestly I like them both the same but if I had to choose, I gotta get my camera out and take a picture...

Xero 11-13-2011 11:31 AM

Before, and I'm basing that entirely on his tag run with Edge.

I never saw him as anything more than a solid upper-midcard hand who could, once in a while, bleed into the main event for B PPVs. I enjoy his matches and some of his promos (he can absolutely talk), but I have never bought him as champion or a regular main eventer.

Emperor Smeat 11-13-2011 02:41 PM

Tough choice but went with before.

Singles-wise he was better after the move because he started to prove he could handle being a champion or main event wrestler but his tag team and early singles career had a lot of memorable moments. Edge definitely benefited the most out of the duo in terms of singles career while Christian struggled a bit due to Vince refusing to push him as a champion and only did once Edge retired.

RiX1024 11-13-2011 03:36 PM

Tough choice, obviously an E&C fan but singles wise I have to go with his run in TNA...coz that's how he rolls so After it is.

St. Jimmy 11-13-2011 03:38 PM

Never.

KaosDarksol 11-14-2011 03:49 AM

After he has been on a roll lately even when he loses he looks good

stultiloquy 11-14-2011 06:05 AM

Before.
His run during E&C was gold, and while I'm glad he's main event material now, I enjoyed his character and his ring work more during his initial singles run.

That, and the first rendition of 'Just Close Your Eyes' is far better than the current version.

Before AND After

Lock Jaw 11-14-2011 12:12 PM

Jayman has the right answer. :y:

Gertner 11-14-2011 12:15 PM

Before. Christan is a fucking horrible face and his heel run hasn't been that great, but you people blow him constantly.

MoFo 11-14-2011 12:17 PM

Before, his feud with Cena was a *cough* instant classic, but everything hes done since has been utter trash.

I wish he never went to TNA. His feud with Cena was the beginning of something awesome for him. Him and Tomko were golden in the beginning. The battle rapping might not have worked out for him, but at least he got a main-event title match out of it.

Jayy 11-17-2011 12:18 PM

As i recall he didn't leave right after the feud with cena, he got drafted to smackdown and had an epic promo on his final day as a member of the raw roster, (fun fact: still was his final day on raws roster) anyway, he was involved in a match for the vacant smabckdown championship, but then it was revealed that raws world champion Batista was now a member of the blue brand. A couple squash matches later and xtian was asking for his release. I agree, if he stayed with wwe, and wwe pushed him the way they seemed to try to do on raw, he would've probably ended up a multi-time world champion.

That being said, before would be my answer as well. His presence meant more, plus i think he could've really done something following the muhammad hassan incident, as wwe would've probably plugged him in as a mainevent heel versus taker then. In my opinion they would've at least.

-edit-

had to put this quote from the promo i was talking about.

"looks like smackdown needs an injection of the three "c's"...Charisma, Canada, and Christian!"

I always looked at that as kind of a potshot at angles 3 Is. Christian soldified his cult following that night, in my opinion.

Gertner 11-17-2011 02:45 PM

Shut the fuck up you nerdy noob. Christian isn't serious business.

Iop 11-17-2011 02:48 PM

I always wanted WWE to bring in a guy named "Muslim" and have him fight Christian.

The Jayman 11-17-2011 03:17 PM

Christian will always be serious business Gertrude

Mr. JL 11-17-2011 11:09 PM

I'm going to go with BEFORE mostly because I have seen more of his work then.

The things in bold just aren't true.

Christian was re-signed to the Raw roster (from ECW) in Febuary 2010. He remained there until May when he was moved to SD in the Draft. So thanks for that "Fun Fact", which was neither fun nor factual.

As for the way he left WWE, you're way off base again.

That match for the "New SmackDown Championship" was on June 30th 2005, his contract expired on October 31st (and he made one last appearance on Taboo Tuesday the following day). He didn't seek a release, he just didn't re-sign. More than likely because he wasn't given the assurances that he'd be used as a major player going forward.

You allude to WWE pushing him on Raw, which didn't really happen. His one title shot against Cena was a Triple Threat involving Jericho, it's widely believed that Jericho was added to the match as Christian "lacked star power".

Blows my mind how some people choose to remember things.

XL 11-21-2011 11:32 AM

Also, this.
