Love The Black Keys.

Blitz 11-29-2011 11:48 PM

I'm sorry, I just don't get the hoopla.

Miotch 11-29-2011 11:55 PM

In my opinion they are leading a rock revolution, bringing it back from the depths of Stapp and Nickelback and all that garbage that is constantly played on the radio.

I can see it not being everyone cup of tea though. What's one of your favorite bands right now Blitz? Current bands I mean.

Blitz 11-30-2011 12:12 AM

They're not. They're doing the same thing the White Stripes and The Hives and The Strokes and myriad upon myriad other bands have done or are doing. They're taking old genres of music and updating it slightly for today. That is all.

Mind you, I don't hate the Black Keys. The few singles I've heard have been alright. And they're definitely making some of the best music videos today. But I just don't think they're the rock god revolutionaries everyone seems to think they are.

Favourite band shall always be Brand New.

Requiem 11-30-2011 12:14 AM

 The Black Keys

One of my favorite bands.

Miotch 11-30-2011 12:17 AM

Really like Brand New. Few bands have shown me the versatility that they have, maybe ever.

I see what you're saying. I don't necessarily agree with all of it, but it's certainly an update on an existing genre. That's what all music is though, so I tend to not see that as a credible argument against. It's blues that at least was dirty and grimy and awesome that has developed into popular or 'pop' rock. Howlin for You is essentially a stadium rock song, for example. That all said, it's more innovative than anything most of the popular rock bands of today are putting out.

Requiem 11-30-2011 12:19 AM

Gold On The Ceiling is sick.

Requiem 11-30-2011 12:35 AM

omfg some of these grooves are just out of this world

I don't even care. I'm too busy jizzing in my pants right now.

Kapoutman 11-30-2011 12:48 AM

I love The Black Keys. I shall be getting this.

Dirk Ziggler 11-30-2011 01:29 AM

I dunno....they're no limp bizkit...

Buzzkill 11-30-2011 02:00 AM

I like them a lot, and have been listening to them since I heard 10 A.M. automatic in high school, but I don't see the genius that some others do...Also have to take DangerMouse (who, IMO, is a musical genius) into account for this new album. He's maybe the most hands on producer in the business, so any progression has to be, at least somewhat, attributed to his collaboration with the group.

Again, I'm really psyched to hear this album. I love DangerMouse and am really curious to see what he does with the Black Keys' sound, since I really do like them. Word.

Anybody Thrilla 11-30-2011 10:07 AM

I've only heard Attack & Release, but I really like it a lot.

Requiem 11-30-2011 01:44 PM

This CD is exactly what I wanted. It is amazing. Little Black Submarines is one of the most amazing songs I've ever heard.

MVP 11-30-2011 01:52 PM

So good

CSL 11-30-2011 04:15 PM

I kind of feel how Blitz feels, like they're alright/non-offensive but nothing really jumps out and grabs me by the balls (as well as having a huge lob-on for Brand New)

El Fangel 11-30-2011 04:21 PM

Little Black Submarines is just

FakeLaser 11-30-2011 05:50 PM

You know what's awesome about living in NYC?

FREE

FakeLaser 11-30-2011 05:50 PM

Also, they're ok. Have discussed them ad nauseum in THE MUSIC FORUM

Sixx 11-30-2011 05:56 PM

I have not heard a single song by them, but I am going to assume they are terrible.

Seth82 11-30-2011 05:57 PM

love The Black Keys

they kick ass

FakeLaser 11-30-2011 05:59 PM

You fucking hipsters! I've had it up to here with you!

CSL 11-30-2011 06:01 PM

are they really hipsters? do they not just look like twats?

CSL 11-30-2011 06:03 PM

brb gonna go listen to Duran Duran

FakeLaser 11-30-2011 06:05 PM

Who finds "hipster" jokes funny

FakeLaser 11-30-2011 06:05 PM

yo, do you know what a hipster's favorite thread on TPWW is?

I would tell you but you probably never heard of it

lololololol

FakeLaser 11-30-2011 06:09 PM

I guarantee this album BLOWS THE FUCK UP though, no question

Pretty "mindie" already but watch. This is gonna be huge.

Requiem 11-30-2011 07:22 PM

I do agree that this album is going to be huge. They attracted a particular crowd with Brothers that got people to check out the rest of their music. It was kind of a mild album compared to the rest of their stuff. Then this comes out and blends the two sounds together in quite simply put, -exactly- what I wanted to hear out of their next album. It's got the modern polish of Brothers with some really heavy drum and bass beats, and the gritty raw guitar riffs I came to love from their older material.

Shisen Kopf 11-30-2011 07:41 PM

I prefer the White Keys

Buzzkill 11-30-2011 08:57 PM

Listened to this twice today. Pretty OK. Little Black Submarines is great, and the rest is pretty much what I expected from a Black Keys/DangerMouse collab (solid, catchy blues rock with a sped up tempo)

7.6/10

FakeLaser 11-30-2011 09:10 PM

7.6 seems like what Pitchfork will probably give them

FakeLaser 11-30-2011 09:10 PM

Oddly enough, their last two albums were given a 7.7 and a 7.5

Kind of sad how easily I can predict Pitchfork ratings.

FakeLaser 12-01-2011 06:43 PM

Yeah that was a pretty good one.

Maybe now that he finally managed to get someone to laugh he will stop being a racist honky.

So pitchfork gave them a 7.4. Damn I'm good

Buzzkill 12-02-2011 12:48 PM

That's because I use the Pithfork Scale of Music Metrics to evaluate albums
