BOOM! GSP out over 10 months/Diaz vs. Condit (UFC 143 Thread)
 

An injury to his ACL has forced Georges St. Pierre out of his welterweight title fight against Nick Diaz at UFC 143.

Georges St. Pierre was set to defend his welterweight belt against Nick Diaz at UFC 137 before Diaz missed a media obligation. He was then scheduled to face Carlos Condit on the same card in a title defense. Then the news broke that he suffered an injury to his knee in practice and would defend his belt against Diaz at UFC 143. It appears that the injury was much worse than originally suspected as St. Pierre will be out for more than 10 months. The UFC is now scheduling Condit vs Diaz for the interim welterweight title.

If Diaz beats Condit can you imagine how much more hype and excitement will be surrounding a GSP/Diaz fight with Nick going in as the "interim" champion? Especially if he defends the title once or twice before the fight? Epic.

MMA is a work, this is all a bullshit story to build hype for Diaz/GSP. You're all lemmings.

Yeah, it will be pretty big hype but I'm just wondering how the layoff and surgery is going to affect GSP's performance. The guy hasn't fought since April 2011. It's December now and assuming he has surgery right away we are looking at September/October to heal. Then he will definitely need time to get into fighting shape so we may not see GSP fight until early 2013.

Or worse case scenario, Fitch somehow ends up the Welterweight Champ. That's worth a thousand NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.

Here's another interesting possibility, if Dana still has a hard on for GSP/Silva, what's the likelihood that he gives GSP extra time off once he's cleared in order to bulk up for 185 since GSP has said if he did move up he'd want time off to properly prepare?

If Dana wants that fight to happen, it needs to be by the time GSP is cleared to fight again anyways considering Anderson's age. Also, it wouldn't make sense for GSP to come back a Welterweight and win that title again only to vacate it and take even more time off to move up to Middleweight. Especially if the current champion at Welterweight ends up being someone GSP has already beaten like Fitch or Koscheck or someone he would have nothing to prove against like Jake Ellenberger.

Plus, it protects GSP by giving him a built in excuse (coming off surgery/long layoff/ ring rust) if he does get demolished by Anderson and decides to move back down to Welterweight.

I feel bad for Condit. Shit, how many times has this fight been changed up on him?

I actually don't mind GSP being out because it changes things up. We get an exciting interim title match and now that GSP is out of the picture, the top 10 guys get a chance to step up and shine for a bit before GSP returns and probably wrestlefucks them intoa fine red paste.

I could also see this leading to Koscheck getting another title shot depending how things play out.

As much as Diaz/GSP might be really good, I would like to see Diaz in a match or two before going after the title.

For those who missed it... Watch the first round of the Caceres/Figueroa fight just for the low blow. To quote Joe Rogan, "It sounded like a home run."

Two brutal low blows, and two pretty brutal head kicks. Definitely enjoyed that fight.

Both low blows were clearly accidental though. I really think the two point deduction was a bit much.
