So How Long Until The Remake the Harry Potter Series?

Like, even a decade ago I would have thought the franchise would probably be off limits for a generation or two. But with some of the reboots coming out of Hollywood now, and even talk of rebooting Batman once Nolan is done with it, I can't help but wonder. The Harry Potter franchise has been a MAJOR cash cow for like a decade now, and I can't help but think we're going to see a reboot/remake of the series much sooner than we might have a while ago.

But maybe I'm wrong.

If you want to discuss this more broadly than Harry Potter, do you think the remake/reboot cycle is starting to get kinda silly? A lot of the examples that sprung to mind were super hero related, and that's sort of understandable given their nature in the first place, but still, there seems to be a lot more (and more obvious) rebooting/remaking these days.

I'd probably say its safe for a decade at least but it was a huge money maker. There was talk of them actually stopping production of the DVDs soon and going the Disney route of reissuing them periodically for limited runs, i can see them getting recut or given the 3D treatment over the next few years for sure though.

I'm working on the script as we speak.

Ugggh. I hate the Disney model. Way to promote piracy of your product guys!

Awesome.

Corporate CockSnogger 01-05-2012 03:44 PM

One slight change I'll be making though, I'm casting Donald Faison as Ron.

Kane Knight 01-05-2012 03:45 PM

Can you make Hermione a tranny?

I promised Hanso....

VSG 01-05-2012 04:02 PM

As long as Snape kills Harry, I am down with it.

Yeah, fuck that supervillain deal where "only I can kill Harry!" Whip out yo nine and represent!

Kane Knight 01-05-2012 04:10 PM

I sense a HISHE (How it Should Have Ended)

Lock Jaw 01-05-2012 05:45 PM

First Marvel or DC needs to adapt the novels into a best-selling line of "Graphic Novels". I think that is the next logical thing to milk out of the Franchise, and can't believe it hasn't been done already.

whiteyford 01-05-2012 05:56 PM

That is kinda suprising, could milk each book for 3 or 4 volumes easily especially the later ones.

5 years

El Fangel 01-05-2012 07:28 PM

I wouldnt mind seeing the 3rd to the 5th movies redone. They are pretty awful.

I think this will be the most likely route it goes.

You'll probably only have to wait 5-8 years.

Snape played by Wesley Snipes.

Hey Potter always bet on black. Zap.

Fox 01-06-2012 01:08 AM

I always thought that Harry Potter should have been done as a high-end TV series. The movies are good for what they are, but they do not by any means do the books justice for their depth, detail and the little moments and side stories that happen in the pages.

I'd love to see 7 10-13 episode Seasons for the 7 Books. It would give them time to really do each book justice and flesh out the side stories and side characters a bit more. Not only that, but the DVD sales for the individual seasons would be phenomenal.

Captain of Fun 01-06-2012 03:43 AM

I don't see a reboot, but as someone else said, I can certainly see endless reissues of the dvds/blurays and reshowings in theaters.

SlickyTrickyDamon 01-06-2012 04:00 AM

Maybe a cartoon series out of the books could be in the future. I could go for what Fox suggested and have a re-telling of it in like a mini-series. You'd get more of the backstory instead of the rush of movies four, five and six.

Though in all reality I don't think you will see any sort of re-boot of the series as long as JK Rowling has a say in it. If she is fine with the series of movies it won't be remade.

Kane you're original insticnts were probably right: untouchable for a generation or two. I don't think Harry Potter will turn into Shakespeare.

The reason they don't do that is there's less money in it comparatively.

Though I'd been a proponent of split movies (Similar to what they'd done with the last book) or extended editions (Like the Lord of the rings, only with things happening).

The former might not be as marketable and we'll probably see the latter sooner rather than later.

I don't think it will, either. But then, reboots and remakes are coming earlier and more frequently with other franchises that fall in the "not Shakespeare" category.

An all-Black Harry Potter reboot will be pretty fucking hilarious.

Buzzkill 01-06-2012 04:20 PM

I dunno I think that Harry Potter is a different beast than something like Batman. The HP storyline is pretty concrete, whereas they can take Batman in a completely different direction.

I'd say 15 years is a good bet

Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Blaxkaban

Rammsteinmad 01-06-2012 06:48 PM

Not a fan of the endless run of reboots/remakes we've been getting lately, but I'd love old films getting re-released again. I've always thought multi-screen complex's (there's one near me with ten screens) should have one of them play old movies. There's a lot of movies I'd love to see on the big screen, just for 'the experience' of it, the effects, the sounds etc, but missed when I had the chance. '300', 'The Phantom of the Opera', 'Transformers' (the first one) would all look incredible on the big screen... and I missed them. :(

There's generally not enough money to pull this off. I think Harry Potter probably could, but in general this sort of replay tends more to a niche audience, especially since most people lose interest once it's out on DVD.

It happened...

They rumors are they will release the cuts they show on TV either this year or next as a box set. The last 3 movies I believe never got those releases so those are being saved for that.

McLegend 01-12-2012 04:01 AM

I think they will remake or reboot in the next 15 years.

However I could easily see them going the Star Wars prequeal route or something along those lines.

Does J.K. Rowling have any new books coming out anytime soon?

Swiss Ultimate 01-12-2012 08:42 PM

I wonder if we'll ever see two competing versions of the same movie in the theaters at the same time...
