Adam Lambert is apparently Queen's new singer.

Adam Lambert is reportedly the new singer for Queen, replacing the American Idol winner's own late idol, Freddie Mercury. Lambert broke the news to the U.K.'s Daily Star.

"The intention is to pay tribute to Freddie and the band by singing some fucking great songs," he said. "It's to keep the music alive for the fans and give it an energy that Freddie would've been proud of." Queen previously toured with former Bad Company singer Paul Rodgers taking Mercury's place.

Speculation has been high since Lambert was joined by surviving Queen members Brian May and Roger Taylor during his Idol finals appearance in 2009. In November, they performed together at the MTV EMAs in Belfast.

Lambert said he had no intention of replacing Mercury, who died in 1991. "That's impossible," he said. "The way I'm choosing to view it is that it's a great honor and one I'm in no way going to shirk." Lambert's second solo album, Trespassing, is due in March.

A representative for Hollywood Records tells Rolling Stone, "The Daily Star item only mentions that Adam may perform with Queen at Sonisphere. This is not confirmed. Nothing has been signed. However, if this were to happen, Queen would be returning to the setting of their final concert with Freddie Mercury, which took place in 1986."
Oh. Uhm... :wtf:

Though Brian May had said something like this a while ago.

Oh well, makes sense. One Queen for another.

El Fangel 02-03-2012 06:45 PM

Way to screw your legacy.

Blitz 02-03-2012 06:50 PM

Oh no, this is the end of music, etc.

Good. Because the alternative would be pretty retarded

DLVH84 02-03-2012 08:53 PM

Sorry, but there's no replacing the great Freddie Mercury.

Skippord 02-03-2012 09:07 PM

And having someone else front the band is clearly replacing him.

Actually, it is, but only in the most technical sense. And if you meant it that way, then clearly there IS replacing him.

Fuck, if Brian May wanted, he could stick Indifferent Clox up there.

It's probably not going to be bad. It's also probably not going to sound very Queen-ish. But still, I doubt it'll be awful.

Shisen Kopf 02-04-2012 08:18 AM

Will he get the AIDS too?

#1-norm-fan 02-04-2012 09:43 AM

lol @ quoting all but the last paragraph...

Lambert took to Twitter to clarify his comments. "Them clever reporters takin my quotes outta context ... I haven't confirmed any guest appearances. I was talking about the EMAs," he tweeted. "That being said, I'm truly flattered by your jump to such glorious conclusions."
Significantly less significant...

Pintint 02-04-2012 10:48 PM

I don't think Queen should've continued playing after Freddy, at least not under the name Queen. IMO, Queen was Freddy...

No, Freddie was Queen. There's a difference.

Vastardikai 02-04-2012 11:13 PM

Replace "Queen" with "Thin Lizzy" and "Freddy" with Phil, and you have a more accurate statement.

Who is this Thin Lizzy, and why does she have a male identity?

Why, she's not a woman at all!

Seth82 02-07-2012 09:27 PM

eh Adam won't be so bad as the new singer

probably better then Paul Rodgers who I didn't care for

Vastardikai 02-08-2012 06:02 AM

Paul Rodgers is good in Bad Company. Bad Company =/= Queen.

To be fair, Queen+Paul rodgers wasn't really Queen, either. It had more the sound of a Brian May solo record, which is fine in a lot of senses. I like Brian May's solo career.

But there's something certainly lacking in terms of it being a Queen record.

And even the Rodgers/Taylor songs sounded like Brian May material, really.
