I remember back in the 90s, you would see a lot of "sex games" being made, even in the 80s for stuff like the Atari. Most of the sex games were for the PC and quite frankly they sucked. However technology has progressed so much we should be seeing AMAZING cgi sex games with motion controls etc...

Yet, no one is making them.

How much does is cost to develop the average video game today?

I've wondered about this before as well. Obviously something like this wouldn't be a mainstream release, but I would imagine it might be feasible for an independent producer to make. It's not the same as internet porn either because you would be in 'control' of the simulation, that's like comparing watching an NFL game on television to playing Madden. I don't really get the "AO" argument because pornography in general has the same stigma yet still has a considerable market. I probably wouldn't go out of my way to buy one of these games, but it does seem like there would be more of a cult following for games like this. Maybe there is and I just don't know about it.

Google says $28 million. I know Read Dead Redemption was $100 million.

Yeah, I looked this up earlier and saw similar numbers. A game like Braid cost ~$200,000 from what I saw though, so for more independent games I would suppose that the cost would vary. A sexual video game would probably require more emphasis on graphics and detail to make it convincing, which may not be feasible on a lower budget.

Is that for games as a whole or just major titles? 28 Mil seems like a lot when you consider that not every title is a big budget deal.

Braid was atypical in terms of cost for an indie game.

What a sex game would need depends on the art style. One could do a very stylised game with less and still get a good chunk of people off. Photorealism is, of course, a problem, but not everyone needs it.
