RIP Doug Furnas

Gabe Sapolsky just posted on Twitter. Died overnight, had long term health problems :(

Cool King 03-03-2012 07:00 PM

Damn. R.I.P :(

I've just read that he had been suffering from Parkinson's Disease for a few years. I didn't know that. :-\

Droford 03-03-2012 07:36 PM

no way he'll get a mention on tv on Monday right?

DLVH84 03-03-2012 07:36 PM

Doug Furnas was one of my favorites growing up. He had one of the best Dropkicks and Frankensteiners in the business. And unlike a lot of strongmen who transitioned into pro wrestling, he adapted the most by trading much of his muscle mass for ring skills.

be very surprised

St. Jimmy 03-03-2012 09:05 PM

Sad. Hell of wrestler. Had some really interesting gimmicks, and some really good matches.

Stickman 03-03-2012 09:16 PM

I seriously haveno idea who this guy is....help me out.

Rip regardless

Testicle 03-03-2012 09:45 PM

He was a world class powerlifter turned wrestler. He wrestled mostly tags with Dan Kroffat. He mostly wrestled in Japan and a number of great matches. I know there is a stigma here with puro, but he had a great match with Van Dam in ECW, I'll try to find it.

But, his pretentiousness was still able to shine through. RIP regardless though.

Lock Jaw 03-04-2012 12:50 AM

RIP. I enjoyed his team with Phillip LaFon.

Razzamajazz 03-04-2012 01:14 AM

for some reason i can't read "doug furnas" without thinking "phil lafon"

RiX1024 03-04-2012 05:39 AM

RIP, great wrestler, enjoyed some of his matches in WWE.

Autobahn 03-04-2012 06:35 AM

He was part of the quebeckers in WWF, right?

Heard he was only 50. Far too young.

He was from Oklahoma, so no.....

Mooияakeя™ 03-04-2012 07:58 AM

God, wrestling matches used to be worth giving a fuck about.

Yeah because the WWF/E would never give a wrestler a gimmick about an ethnicity or origin they don't have or represent...

Gertner 03-04-2012 10:26 AM

I remember wrestling Doug Furnas in Don Owens teriitory out in Portland in 1986. So of a bitch wouldn't sell my Canadian Destroyer.

Stickman 03-04-2012 02:21 PM

After watching a few matches with Owen and Bulldog I still do not remember this guy or that team at all. How long was he in the wwf?

He and LaFon were there for a year. From Survivor Series '96 to Survivor Series '97.

Vastardikai 03-04-2012 04:15 PM

Most memorable thing was their debut at a Survivor Series, it was a 3 on 3 tag team survivor series match. I want to say Furnas and LaFon did all the eliminations on their teams' side.

Seth82 03-04-2012 05:17 PM

RIP Doug Furnas

him and Dan Kroffat were a damn good tag team

I also liked their series with The British Bulldogs at the tail end of 1989.

November 19, 1989 (with Kenta Kobashi as The British Bulldogs' partner and Masanobu Fuchi as The Can-Am Express' partner)

Seeing as he was only with them for a year I highly doubt it but anyhow RIP.

Nah, his bio doesnt even mention any time spent in the WWF/WWE. That and I dont ever recall seeing him outside of ECW ('96 or so) or WCW.

The Quebecer's consisted of Jaques Rougeau and Carl Oullet.

Bah, a poor man's ripoff of the earlier WWF 'Can-Am Connection' consisting of Rick Martel and Tom Zinc, circa 1987.

<iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/SG--Am7Y-TU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

DLVH84 03-04-2012 09:23 PM

Zenk sucks compared to Furnas and Kroffat. Martel was the better half of the team.

Schlomey 03-05-2012 02:26 PM

I also grew up enjoying Furnas and LaFon in WWF. R.I.P.
