Most disappointing players ever..

With the Portland Trailblazers waiving Greg Oden the only other players I can think of that were that big of disappointments with Ryan Leaf and Jamarcus Russell..

Oden and Leaf atleast had injuries as partof their failure but Russell just completely fell apart once he got to the pro level..

Am I missing anyone?? What causes these once great collegiate players to fail so miserably once making big money?? Is it just the pressure of the spotlight or was it destine to happen??

Just something I was thinking about while taking a shit and reading the sports page this morning..

Kris P Lettus 03-16-2012 12:41 PM

A few others:

Matt Leinart
Brady Quinn
And until this past season, Alex Smith

I thought Leaf's biggest problem was more attitude than him being hurt especially the often played clips of him just yelling at his team mates in San Diego.

Gus Frerotte simply for the fact of his stupidity in getting a concussion by celebrating with a helmet hit to a wall. Never was the same after that incident.

For the Patriots, Lawrence Maroney had the potential of being a great RB for the Patriots and played a similar style with Marion Barber in college. Ended up being a semi-bust because of his unwillingness to "pound" the ball during rushes when the Pats drafted him as that type of RB.

Tracy McGrady has always been shit everytime I saw him yet the commentators are crowing about how great he is.....

ClockShot 03-16-2012 02:57 PM

Kwame Brown comes to mind.

T-Mac was good early in his career...

Anybody Thrilla 03-16-2012 03:26 PM

Tracy McGrady doesn't belong anywhere near this conversation.

Kijana Carter does, though.

DARKOOOOOOOOOO

Nark Order 03-19-2012 03:45 PM

I guess you have to put Alex Smith on this list, although the saga still continues.

Wow...in 1992 the Colts had the top two picks in the draft ended up with Steve Emtman, a Huge Bust, and Quentin Coryatt, a smaller bust.

Hanso Amore 03-19-2012 04:21 PM

I just went to wikipedia and read through every draft in the last 25 years. Crazy how much things have changed in regards to the draft.

Stefan never passed the eye test with me from the beginning.

Huge busts for me Eric Fichaud and Jamie Storr. Especially Jamie Storr.

Gertner 03-19-2012 06:25 PM

Bryan Fogarty has got to be the biggest disappointment of all time. He broke all of Bobby Orr's numbers in junior, got carried away with drugs and alcohol and died way too soon.

XCaliber 03-19-2012 11:06 PM

I'd have to say Alexandre Daigle the dude had all the skill but lacked the passion to play at the NHL level.

Krimzon7 03-19-2012 11:18 PM

Every cincinatti Bengal draft pick from the 90's

Skippord 03-19-2012 11:21 PM

not as much of a national disappointment as some of these other ones and I didn't know enough about hockey at the time to actually judge if he was a disappointment, but Wojtek Wolski

really thought he would be a superstar when I was younger

SlickyTrickyDamon 03-21-2012 11:30 PM

The definitive answer: Len Bias :(

Gilbert Brule is a more recent player that comes to mind he was drafted 6th overall in 2005 and still hasn't lived up to his potential.

If he could manage to not have a season ending injury every time someone breaths on him, he'd probably be good.

itsmeJD 03-25-2012 12:14 PM

Todd Van Poppel? Kwame Brown was definitely a Bum, but anyone who knew him from Southeast Ga coulda told you that. He was always pretty damn lazy.

Nicky Fives 03-27-2012 07:13 PM

Alexander Daigle is the first to come to mind.....

Gertner 03-29-2012 08:26 PM

Jason Bonsignore: former Oilers draft pick had the tools to become Mario Lemieux and just never put it together.

Oilers had a ton of shitty first round picks in the 90's come to think of it. Kinda like Columbus in the 2000's

Triple Naitch 03-29-2012 09:13 PM

Definitely Darko.
