LOL @ Chavo's "Open Challenge" Respondee *SMACKDOWN SPOILERS*

Report by: Shane, rajah.com reader

Smackdown begins:

Smackdown opens with no pyros ? Michael Cole stands in the ring and addressed
the crowd about an incident at an El Paso house show on Sunday involving Eddie
Guerrero?s mother.

We see the footage from El Paso, where Eddie invites his family to the ring,
including his mother. JBL comes out to the ring and decks Eddie with his WWE
title. Then he gets in Eddie?s mother?s face, and the two have some heated
words. Eventually, JBL puts his hands on her, and she collapses to the ground,
suffering a heart attack. JBL quickly gets the hell out of dodge. She?s
carted out of the ring by EMTs as her family, including Eddie, watch in horror.

Commercial

Non title match: U.S. Champion John Cena vs. Doug Basham w/Danny Basham

Cena comes out to a fantastic reaction, wearing a Tom Chambers Phoenix Suns
jersey. He does another great rap on the Bashams and Rene Dupree. A good half
dozen ?Cena? chants break out. Cena eventually beats Doug with the FU,
despite Danny?s attempts at interference.

Winner: John Cena

Commercial

Cruiserweight title match: Chavo Guerrero w/Chavo Guerrero Classic vs.
Jacqueline

Yep. Chavo puts out an open challenge, declaring it ?Chavo vs. the World.?
?Chavo sucks? chants break out more than once. Jacqueline comes out. Chavo
gets back on the mic, asking Jackie if she?s serious, she doesn?t have a
chance against a man, and so forth. After about 2 mintues of this, Jackie slaps
him, and it?s on. Jackie gets a little offensive flurry going, but Chavo
dominates most of the match. At one point, the referee is destracted by Chavo
Classic (Sr.) while Chavo Jr. stands on top of Jacqueline. Jacqueline low blows
Chavo, rolls him up, gets the 1-2-3, and the crowd erupts. The Chavos can?t
believe it. It was the moment of the night.

Winner and new cruiserweight champion: Jacqueline

Commercial

Booker T goes to see a psychic to find out what?s going to happen between him
and The Undertaker at Judgment Day. The psychic, a Miss Cleo clone, tells him
that a dead man has risen from the black shadows and is after him. She gives
him several random items as part of some sort of spell to keep him safe, but
tells Booker he needs one more thing: dirt from an unmarked grave.

Commercial

Nunzio and Johnny Stamboli enter the ring ready for a tag team match. Kurt Angle
is wheeled out by whoever that guy is to the entrance of the ring. Crowd chants
?You suck? well after his music ends. Angle says he had hoped that the
disrespect he received last week at Oklahoma City was just an abberation, but
apparently not. He says he?s very disappointed in us. Booooooo. On to
business, Angle reminds us he promised last week that The Undertaker would
wrestle this week. He says he surveyed the locker room, and no one wanted to
face the Dead Man. He turns his attention to the gentlemen in the ring; tells
them he knows they were expecting a tag team match, but sometimes things
don?t work out as you expect. Therefore, Nunzio and Stamboli would be facing
the Undertaker tonight. And that match will begin? right? now.

Booooong?

The Undertaker vs. Nunzio and Johnny Stamboli

Angle wheels himself to the back, and Paul Bearer leads The Undertaker to the
ring. The crowd is, of course, going nuts. He does his usual entrance, raises
his hand to turn on the lights, Mr. Bearer takes his jacket and hat, and
we?re underway. Nunzio is thrown out of the ring early in the match; most of
it featured Taker vs. Stamboli. Taker performs his top rope move, then wins
with some random submission move on Stamboli.

Winner: The Undertaker

Post match: Nunzio reenters the ring and gets a Last Ride for his trouble. Taker
then turns to Stamboli and tombstones him. The lights go back out, Taker pays
homage to the urn, and exits. The crowd is beside itself.

Commercial

Later, we find Booker T at a graveyard looking for such a grave. He finds one,
collects some dirt, and leaves. Zoom in on the tombstone, we see a gloved hand
emerge from the dirt.

Rene Dupree comes down to the ring with Fifi, who looks scared to death, to do
some guest commentary.

Torrie Wilson vs. Dawn Marie:

Pretty basic inexperienced ladies match. At one point, Torrie goes for the pin,
and Dawn Marie puts her hand firmly on Torrie?s rear end as she kicks out.
Let?s see if the camera catches that. Everyone on my side of the arena did.
Anyway, toward the end, Rene tries to distract Torrie, but Torrie kicks him
away, does a top rope move on Dawn Marie and gets the pin. Toward the end of
the match, Cena comes out and stares down Dupree.

Winner: Torrie Wilson

After the match, Dupree goes after Cena. He nails Cena with a bunch of foreign
objects, and powerbombs him through the American(!) announce table. Dupree gets
in the ring and does his little French dance to a good deal of heat. Cena gets
carried to the back.

Commercial

Live from New York, Michael Cole and Tazz interview JBL. Even via satellite, he
gets a lot of heat. Bradshaw says it wasn?t his fault what happened, Eddie
Guerrero?s family had no business being in the ring, and it?s possible his
mother faked the whole thing. He says he?s in New York not because he?s
afraid of Guerrero but because he?s there on business. He?s on a show on
CNBC, the ?most respected financial channel in the world,? or something to
that effect. He leaves us with a final thought: His people came to this country
on a boat ? not an innertube.

Commercial

Backstage, Paul Heyman tells Angle it would be inadvisable to allow Eddie
Guerrero to compete in a tag team match with Rob Van Dam against the Dudley
Boyz, because Eddie?s in a bad mood and would certainly cause a good deal of
physical harm to the Dudleys? and they would have to sue the company. Angle
says he made his point, and Eddie?s out of the match.

Dudley Boyz vs. Rob Van Dam and Rey Mysterio

The Dudleys come out to a mixed reaction, which turns into a lot of heat as the
match goes on. Van Dam comes out to a great pop. His partner is a returning Rey
Mysterio, who receives as loud a pop as RVD. The match lasts a good 15 minutes,
with Mysterio hitting the 619 toward the end. The match ends as RVD performs
his rolling thunder move on Bubba the same time that Mysterio hits a top-rope
move.

Winners: Rob Van Dam and Rey Mysterio

Post-match, the Dudleys proceed to beat on their opponents. After some
?Eddie? chants, Eddie Guerrero gives the crowd what they want and runs down
to the ring. He grabs a chair and beats up everyone. Bubba, D-Von, RVD and a
couple refs get chair shots. The top part of the chair comes off in the
process. He uses the chair for a good 2-3 minutes, then gives us a half-crazed
look as the show goes off the air.

Nothing signifigant happens when the show goes off the air.

Biggest pops:

1. The Undertaker
2. John Cena
3. Eddie Guerrero
4. Rey Mysterio
5. Rob Van Dam

(All five men received exceptional pops.)

Biggest heat:

1. Kurt Angle
2. JBL
3. Chavo Guerrero
4. Rene Dupree
5. Dudley Boyz

Moment of the night: Jacqueline?s victory
Sign of the night: ?This Mexican supports JBL?

The Tucson Convention Center Arena holds not quite 10,000, and it didn?t sell
out. A good portion of the upper section of the arena on one side was blocked
off. There were probably 7,000-8,000 in attendance.

Worst smackdown ever

The Mackem 05-05-2004 10:11 AM

Damn question marks

Cactus Sid 05-05-2004 10:19 AM

Jacqueline cruiserweight champion?

SuperSlim 05-05-2004 10:22 AM

well it sounds like a decent to bad show but Jackie makes a return to the irng and wins... more confusing than anything... what goes on from there?

The Mackem 05-05-2004 10:28 AM

Chavo wins the belt back next week.

The Mackem 05-05-2004 10:29 AM

or maybe she'll rename it Smackdown's Woman's belt :)

big_bluto 05-05-2004 10:30 AM

It's about time the WWe creative team surprised us, and I think it's safe to say that no-one saw this coming!
However, couldn't they have come up with something better than;

Writer: We need someone to challenge Chavo
Vince: Where's that Tough Enough kid?
Writer: Bob Holly broke him
Vince: That goofy bob - always mucking around! *chortles*
Writer: Anyway, we don't have anyone to challenge Chavo, and he's out at the ring now
Vince *points to Jacqueline*: Who's that?
Jacqueline: Here's your coffee, Vince
Vince: Great. Emm...can you wrestle?
Jacqueline: emmm....I've held the womens title!
Vince: Great. Whatever. Go out and pin Chavo with a roll-up for the little-guy title.
Jacqueline: WTF?
Writer: Great idea, Vince!
Jacqueline *to writer*: WTF?
Writer: Get going or you're the next Dawn-Marie to Chavo, Snr's Al Wilson!
Sound of Jacqueline sprinting to the ring.......

El Santo 05-05-2004 11:28 AM

I'm speechless.

Who the $%&$& is booking this thing?!?!? And why do I have this horrible, horrible feeling the Vince Russo is back in the WWE and no one told me?!?!

Loose Cannon 05-05-2004 11:32 AM

WOW. Just WOW. Dammit, where is my Mordecai promo?

:D
I reckon they've got the following:
Homer Simpson (because he knows what he wants, and changes his mind all the time)
Ralph Wiggum from The Simpsons (creative editor)
Peter from Family Guy (random stupidity consultant)
Bill Clinton (believable script writer)
HHH (burial expert)
Paris Hilton (expert in fu</>cking guys over)
My dog, Dougall (Stupid and enthusiastic)

Then again I could be wrong?

Loose Cannon 05-05-2004 11:43 AM

Seriously though, I mean you have like 10 other Crusiers who have been on TV for the past year and here comes someone who hasn't been on TV since God knows when and she wins the belt. It's like I know these people can book and have been doing a pretty good job these last couple of months. But, what the hell does this accomplish? Are they tryinh to kill the credibility of the Crusier Title, are they trying to get FK'n Jackie Over? There is no logic what so ever in this move and it just boggles my mind. I can understand if like Jeff Hardy came back and won the belt because these kind of things of happend before, but female wrestlers holding male championships DO NOT WORK VINCE.

:y: Arseholes.
I still reckon they've sent out whoever Vince saw first!
I'm just glad it wasn't Sgt Slaughter!

i remember this time, back in the good ol days of 1999, when this woman named Chyna had the IC title. Only after several feuds between Angle, Jericho, and Benoit did the title regain credibility

The Mackem 05-05-2004 12:16 PM

I heard Jackie says that she's getting a "main event title clause" put into her next contract otherwise she's leaving :shifty:

Lamuella 05-05-2004 12:42 PM

wow. Worst cruiserweight champion since Oklahoma

mitch_h 05-05-2004 01:55 PM

WTF why couldn't it just be Paul London, it could have been played the same way where this "no name" jobber comes out and beats Chavo for the belt, it would have been a huge surprise and could have lead to a much more interesting angle.

Disturbed316 05-05-2004 02:04 PM

lol Jeff Hardy returning would have been much better than that bint winning it.

Nowhere Man 05-05-2004 02:13 PM

You have got to be f</>ucking kidding me. The Cruiserweight Division is the only redeeming value Smackdown has left, and the give the belt to JACQUELINE?! Wasn't she supposed to be on Raw in the first place?

Honestly, I know they want to make Raw look superior to Smackdown (which makes no sense whatsoever, since all that means is they lose money from a shitty SD), but they're really taking it too far. Out of the Mysterios, Guerreros, Kidmans, and Dragons out there, they take it upon themselves to fins the one person nobody f</>ucking wanted to see ever again, and push her over the best cruiserweights in the world. Well, I guess that should be expected from a show where the #1 Contender for the brand's World Title is Bradshaw.

Ferocious 05-05-2004 02:20 PM

I think Jacqueline will be a very credible cruiserweight champion. What with her high paced matches, Energetic attitude and her superior high flying ability. Come on guys, I'm glad to see her back and more importantly win the title. She will bring credibility back to the cruiser division. No further questions your honour.

Second thoughts WTF is going on behind the scenes. This is possibly the most move WWE have made since the name change. Infact possibly even ever, all of the crusier division ha lost credibility now because quite a few of them havnt been able to take the belt from Chavo and then a woman comes along and does it at the first attempt. And April fools day passed over a month ago

big_bluto 05-05-2004 02:22 PM

Formal Announcement:

Smackdown sucks

*note the absence of a capital letter on the word 'sucks' - they don't even deserve that. :nono: :n:

SeanMC 05-05-2004 02:25 PM

I agree with all of these posts, it's f-ucking stupid giving the belt to jackie, all that hype and for what?! They just couldn't do the right thing for once could they?I haven't seen paul london before, but he sounds more deserving of the belt than jackie.

Sephiroth 05-05-2004 02:26 PM

LOL, new cruiserweight champion

Ricky 05-05-2004 02:33 PM

Fu</>ck watching that.

El Santo 05-05-2004 02:40 PM

The scary thing about all this is that after seeing the booking for this show, I'd say the chances of Bradshaw becoming WWE Champion at Judgment Day are now even odds.

PureHatred 05-05-2004 02:56 PM

This destroys whatever credibility the Cruiserweight Division has leftafter the Wrestlemania debacle. So a woman who hasn't even managed to dominate her own division comes back to TV and "shocks" the champ who has spent the last few weeks going through every other contender in the division?! WTF!? Why not just put the belt on Fifi? Or Eddie's Mom?

And did I miss something or did they not explain who that hand coming out of the unmarked grave was? Undertaker?....no he was in the ring. Mordecai? Zombie Man? The ghost of Stevie Ray?

It's like the WWE is going out of its way to make Smackdown suck. Maybe Vince hates UPN because he can't land a guest spot on The Parkers.

Innovator 05-05-2004 03:03 PM

WWE needed to counter the Friends finale tonight with a solid Smackdown for ratings. They give us Jaqueline...I WOULDVE SETTLED FOR HARDY!

I will laugh my ass off if it's Al Wilson.

The CyNick 05-05-2004 03:10 PM

If only I didn't read the CW title match results, I would say SD looked very good.

I thought they did a great job with Eddie, and making people care about him against Bradshaw at the PPV. Also, the ending with Eddie all fired up sounds awesome.

Taker got to wrestle on TV which at this point is a novelty, so that was good. Not sure about the BT vignettes, but we'll see how they come out on Thurs.

It sounds like Dupree got a major run with the beatdown he put on Cena. I think thats good because it makes Dupree look tough instead of being a French pussy who walks around with a poodle. Adds intensity to the feud, which is again good.

Then you get to the Chavo deal. And its funny, and in this case sad, how one STPUID angle can ruin an otherwise good show. I guess its official they just dont care about the CW title. What so amazing is that Chavo is really over, and instead of capitalizing on that with a series of strong feuds for the CW title they make him look like a joke by losing to a girl. Would they do that with Cena? Would they make Cena lose to say Jazz is she were to show up on SD? Or is Randy Orton in danger of losing the IC title to Torrie (when she replaces Edge) next week on RAW? The answer is of course not, only the CW (which is Latin for joke title) champ gets that treatment. I usually hate to bury an angle before it plays out, but its hard to see how this can turn out good.

The only logical thing I can see out of this, is as someone mentioned make the CW title the new womens title, then maybe Chavo can feud with Cena for the US title. But if Chavo has to work a program with Jackie, well then he's dead in the water, which is so sad. I just hope this isn't punishment for what Chavo Sr did at the Cauliflower Club a while back.

Its so upsetting because there are a ton of other angles that they could have done to waste time. Hell even put a mask on someone like Noble, and then have him accept the challenge as an international superstar, and then beat Chavo. Then he unmasks, and its Noble, and bam you have a feud. Sure its not the greatest, but it blows the Jackie deal out of the water, and doesn't make the CW title look like a joke.

I dont know why these things still shock me.

Loose Cannon 05-05-2004 04:32 PM

A good thing that has come out of this show, is that my full attention will be on the Friends finale for the whole 2 hours. Well except when I switch to Survivor every now and then during commercials.

Vastardikai 05-05-2004 04:54 PM

*thinks of a way to mess with LC*

What the spoilers DIDN'T mention was that Randy Orton was in the front row! :p

I'm kidding, by the way...

Oh come on. It's only ever been done once in WWE, and Chyna is a seriously poor example. You can't really count those "blink and you miss them" hardcore reigns enjoyed by a few scattered chicks. I'm not saying that Jacqueline as CW champion is a good idea, because I think it's a pretty bad one, but to make a statement like that based solely on Chyna is a far too quick rush to judgment.
