Explain It in Kayfabe #1: Kane The Undertaker

I thought this would be an interesting series, though maybe a weak start off.

When The Undertaker had first debuted, he, for a short while, went by "Kane The Undertaker". How can this be explained in Kayfabe? Was it Kane, who was eventually overtaken by "Mark" in the character? Did The Undertaker steal Kane's identity? Was it an homage to his thought to be fallen brother?

DLVH84 03-20-2012 09:10 PM

Probably a homage, more likely.

Nicky Fives 03-20-2012 10:05 PM

Homage to his kid brother that he accidentally murdered.....

Rollermacka 03-20-2012 10:18 PM

A wizard did it

Tazz Dan 03-20-2012 10:49 PM

Cane Dewey

Tazz Dan 03-20-2012 10:49 PM

Yeah, I really can't explain. Actually, I probably could, but I'm lazy.

Droford 03-20-2012 10:58 PM

The Undertakers real name is Kane and his brother is also named Kane because the parents were lazy at coming up with names.

I actually knew this kid in school who had two older twin brothers, who both were named Derek.... and their dad was named Derek.

But back on topic....

... the easiest kayfabe would be homage... you guys are good at this game

It began one day at a Family Owned Funeral Parlor. Undertaker, and his Brother Kane lived together with their parents and Paul Bearer. Kane was a happy go lucky child who dreamed of being a professional wrestler. Undertaker was a mean spirited, almost evil child. Eventually, he would set a fire that would seemingly kill his parents and Kane. After this, he would continue down his path to the dark side. Paul Bearer, who was out buying milk at the time, returned to see the horror that Taker had unleashed.

Even though he thought his own son (Kane) gone, Paul Bearer would not give up on Taker. He continued after Taker, thwarting various evil plots and deeds of Taker, as he moved from town to town.

Eventually Taker got mixed up with a nice female demon who tried to use him as a sacrifice to bring an Elder Chaos Demon to the Earthly plane. She almost succeeded, and did indeed mortally wound Taker. As Taker lay dying surrounded by the Ritual Summoning Ring of Demonic Flame, Paul Bearer came to save the day. He stopped the summoning and dispatched the female Demon. Not before she cursed him with being FAT.

Taker, meanwhile, was losing a lot of blood in the midst of the ring of fire... and the last thing he remembered was the image of a fat man, leaping over the wall of fire to save him.

Next thing he knew, he awoke in the hospital... but he had total amnesia! The only thing he remembered was... fire.

Paul Bearer, perhaps in a selfish desire to get his own son back (whom he had thought perished in the original fire), told him that he was Kane... and that his brother, The Undertaker died in a fire when he was young. Wanting to know more about his brother, Paul said he wanted nothing more than to become a Pro Wrestler. And that his ashes were inside of The Urn he carried.

Undertaker, thinking he was Kane, vowed to join the world of professional wrestling, and add the tribute to his brother onto his name, by calling himself "Kane the Undertaker".

:wtf: That.... Actually kinda makes sense. Either that or I'm really tired. Anyway I could actually see that as being a story WWF would come up during the attitude era.

XCaliber 03-21-2012 12:31 AM

It was spelt as Cain not Kane.

DLVH84 03-21-2012 12:54 AM

Actually, it was Cain.

Lock Jaw 03-21-2012 01:00 AM

But Wikipedia says it was Kane, and Wiki never is wrong.

Droford 03-21-2012 01:01 AM

Cain, Kane and Caine...which mean's theres a 3rd brother that needs to show up soon..

then they can all star in a WWE Network Sitcom..

The Bret Hart Show

There was actually a book that was written about The Undertaker and Kane's past which actually explained that "Kane" was the maiden name of The Undertaker and Kane's shared mother. Therefore, an homage would make the most sense, you could just simply call that writer a liar who never had any sources for his information (and perhaps even worked for Paul Bearer to make the Father of Evil more money -- or was just duped out of Bearer's own desire to cause mischief). But, if you wanted to take that story as kayfabe, then The Undertaker taking the name "Kane," "Caine" or "Cain" could have been tribute to his fallen mother.

Kane could have chosen the name to pay respect to his mother, as well, or used it to remind Taker of his origins. You know: "Remember when you used this name?" Then you'd need to explain how Taker knew Kane as his brother despite it being his mother's maiden name when Paul announced that "Kane lives!"

Yeah, shit's fucked.

Lane The Undertaker was a schizophrenic, eventually Lane and Undertaker became separate entities I the mind of Mark Calloway. Everything Kane has done in the last 15 years us a figment of Taker's invagination.

This in no way, shape or form bares any similarity to Fight Club.

They should definitely make that the case and show a video package of a bunch of historic Kane and Undertaker moments but edit Kane out to show what really happened. Undertaker giving himself a tombstone is money.

Rock Bottom 03-21-2012 02:45 PM

when Kane was about to sign the contract for the wwf the undertaker threw him into a fire and wrote the undertaker on the contract and since no one noticed it was swept under the rug so when vince mcmahon came back and saw the contract and saw "kane the undertaker" he thought thats who he was so the undertaker went to have a funeral service for his brother kane and contacted paul bearer and he was having the service but the wwe humanr esources pulled up while he was still doing the funeral hey man ur late for ur match so the undertaker is like ok thats my bad and goes to work and has his match so when he shows up still in his funeral clothes with his messed up name he's thinking man this is one hell of a ride and so he said man i need to clear this up so he talked to vince mcmahon after a while and said my name isnt kane the undertaker its just the undertaker over the years vince mcmahon kept his mouth shut because the undertaker was a good addition to the roster but eventually he knew something fishy was going on so he investigated into the matter and found out that the undertaker killed kane so he went to see for himself and kane rose from the grave and right about that time vince didnt like stone cold steve austin and kane rose from the grave and said vince let me destroy my brother and vince went but man you were just dead nope im not ok you are hired.

Long winded with a lacklustre ending. Like a Rock promo minus all the twitter talk.
