Marvel/DC: Create-A-Superteam - Timewarp Revival

Say you're some multidimensional recruiter, Nick Fury/Amanda Waller or an uber-godly scale, and it's your job to put together a team of superheroes tough enough to face Darkseid - managed to nab the Infinity Gems, and somehow subjugated Unicron from Transformers into a pet. Oh, and he acquired the Foot Clan in a game of poker.

So across the universes of Marvel and DC you shall summon a team of five worthy of this threat. Be sure to highlight the leader. No you cannot choose from the Hasbro universe, despite there being Unicron. His inclusion was to raise the threat level, not to have Snake Eyes riding Bumblebee in a few teams (awesome as that sounds).

Go.

Lock Jaw 04-04-2012 12:13 AM

Do we have a set team number? Otherwise I could theoretically create a Legion of Super-Heroes sized team.

Kalyx triaD 04-04-2012 12:14 AM

Let's go with a 5. Forces hard decisions, I think. Thanks for the detail.

Lock Jaw 04-04-2012 12:31 AM

Five people? To take on all that? Let me think on this.

Skippord 04-04-2012 12:40 AM

good thread idea

Nark Order 04-04-2012 12:41 AM

Can we use Phoenix or are we going to argue whether she can be controlled or not?

Kalyx triaD 04-04-2012 12:45 AM

Well if "She can't control it" I think that kinda bans her outright.

...She eats stars.

Kalyx triaD 04-04-2012 12:46 AM

Certain character can be debated, but I think we'll all behave on this front.

For me, this is harder than I thought making the thread. Gonna need time.

Kalyx triaD 04-04-2012 12:48 AM

ATTENTION:

Removed Image Comics universe to streamline the already massive choice list. You guys cool with that?

Kalyx triaD 04-04-2012 12:51 AM

Added Foot Clan to the looming threat. Add some 'street level' goons other than Parademons.

Who's leader?

Supes.

Lock Jaw 04-04-2012 01:08 AM

Ok. Here we go.

1:

SPOILER: show
http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/7...nk_2_super.jpg
Superman (Clark Kent/Kal-El)

As if there was any doubt that Superman had to be on this team. Veritable powerhouse. Flight, speed, strength, invulnerability, all sorts of vision powers... and myriad other powers depending on which era of comic books you take him from. Hopefully the one where he had Super-Ventriloquism, as I could see that being a key factor in the fight.

He will never stop fighting. He will never give up. He will inspire those around him to hope, and to push themselves as much as he pushes himself. Even in the darkest hour of this ordeal, he will be the shining beacon of light.

2 (Team Leader):

SPOILER: show
http://i.annihil.us/u/prod/marvel//u...x-Bpanther.jpg
The Black Panther (T'Challa)

Every team needs its master strategist/tactician. The Black Panther is pretty much Marvel's Batman. Except instead of being borderline psychotic/paranoid, he is the King of Wakanda, the most technologically advanced country in the Marvel Universe, which in itself is presented as having a higher level of tech than DC to begin with.

Master of martial arts, one of the smartest men on the planet, with the resources and strength of an entire nation behind him if need be.

3:

SPOILER: show
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Agpre_OqcT...atcomputer.jpg
Martian Manhunter (J'onn J'onzz)

The ability to psychically coordinate your forces via telepathic link is invaluable. Out of all the psychics in the comic book worlds.... might as well go for the one who is also insanely powerful.

Flight, strength, invulnerability, psychic powers, intangibility, martian vision powers, and shape shifting. Yeah. Not a bad guy to have on your team. The fact that he has already witnessed his homeworld being ravaged of its populace should also provide extra motivation for him.

4:

SPOILER: show
http://nerdtrek.com/wp-content/uploa...-Lightning.jpg
Thor

A second powerhouse is just what this team needs. This would actually be the third powerhouse, but I imagine Martian Manhunter keeping back and working with Black Panther while Thor and Superman just pound the shit out of things.

Not much to say about this pick. The God of Thunder.

5:

SPOILER: show
http://images.wikia.com/hawkman/imag...lmer_super.jpg
The Atom (Ray Palmer)

Kind of a dark horse pick here... but even the smallest person can make a difference. I really feel like Ray Palmer would be able to literally fight this battle on a whole different level.

With his size changing abilities, he can shrink down to subatomic levels. He can sneak just about anywhere, especially with the grand stage/ego of the villains. They won't be looking for someone so small.

Oh yeah, Ray is also a scientific genius. Not Reed Richards level or anything, but he is pretty smart.

I feel like while Supes and Thor are pounding shit and saving people, Black Panther, Martian Manhunter, and The Atom will be enacting the plan to put an end to this (or give Supes and Thor an opening to end it or something)

And thus goes my team.

Fignuts 04-04-2012 01:54 AM

Batman.

You don't need anyone else.

Nark Order 04-04-2012 02:03 AM

1:

SPOILER: show
The Swamp Thing
http://images.wikia.com/marvel_dc/im...Holland_02.jpg

I was unclear whether this fight would take place on the soil of the earth or not but since you added clan soldiers, I'll assume that at least part of the battle will take place on Earth. Swamp Thing is the master of the green and is in tune with everything that is happening in nature at all times. If there is something troubling the mother earth, he is the first one to know. Not only that, but he can send his consciousness into the green and basically transport anywhere on the planet that has an abundance of plant life, so he'll be able to deal with problems rather quickly. And then, of course, there's that thing where he, you know, controls all that is green on the planet and can use it to his liking. Swamp Thing can play scout, offense, and defense in this battle, making him a "shoo in," in my eyes.

2:

SPOILER: show
Magneto
http://images.wikia.com/marveldataba...gneto442px.jpg

Magneto is the master of magnetism and one of the most powerful mutants on the planet. While he doesn't always work well in groups, if the fate of civilization or mutant-kind is on the line, he's in. It seems like there will be a considerable need for magnetism in this fight, seeing that there is so much metal involved. Magneto can not only be a powerful offensive force, but he can make powerful fore fields that can aid and defend his teammates in battle. Magneto is a no brainer to me in this battle.

3: (Leader)

SPOILER: show
Tony Stark/Iron Man
http://www.comicbookmovie.com/images...iron%20man.jpg

This battle isn't going to be won without some creative knowhow and without some serious technological firepower here. Tony Stark can provide his team with some pretty heinous hardware to help combat the forces of evil. On top of being a genius, Tony Stark also can man the Iron Man suit and wreak some serious havok. Between Stark being a genius, a man with unlimited resources, and a powerful superhero... he's almost a must.

4:

SPOILER: show
Shadowcat aka Kitty Pryde
http://i.annihil.us/u/prod/marvel//u...Shadowcat3.jpg

Alright, let me explain. You're probably wondering if I know what the fuck I'm talking about here, but I'm serious. For the mission it definitely seems like Infiltration will almost be a must and there is nobody better for it then Kitty. She can phase through matter which means that she can't be hit and she can literally go anywhere she fucking wants all the time. There is nothing stopping her from infiltrating an area and doing some serious damage. Not only that, but she can use her powers with others to help them infiltrate areas as well. Between her and Magneto, they could really fuck the Unicrons's day up big time. It doesn't really matter that she has limited fighting skills because she never really has to fight. Her job is to obtain objects, hit switches, get people in and out, etc. If she does her job correctly, she could be the difference between a win and a loss.

5:

SPOILER: show
Superman
http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/1...3-superman.jpg

I really wanted to do this without the help of Superman, and maybe it could be done, but it's just pretty silly not to utilize him. He's the most powerful superhero maybe ever. He can fight up close, from far away, and he has very few weaknesses. Superman can fight this battle wherever it decides to go and he can fight non-stop for a month if he had to. He's lightning quick, he has laser vision, he can lift anything he wants... come on. It's a forgone conclusion

Kalyx triaD 04-04-2012 02:04 AM

http://images.wikia.com/transformers...lm-warping.jpg
Unicron looms, Darkseid commands him to begin drilling Hellspores on Earth.

Thor (leader) - We're dealing with a New God, who has no consideration for life in the universe. This team will be lead by a god who learned to value life technically inferior to his own. After seeing how Darkseid would abuse his power and one of the treasures of Odin's Vault, Thor would surely have words with thee.

http://www.blogcdn.com/www.comicsall...1297990097.jpg
Who will fight with the Son of Odin?

Green Lantern Hal - Intergalactic threats are not new to a Green Lantern, and this team needs a major boost of willpower in the form of Hal Jordan. I'm going with this particular version of Hal for tonal diversity, somebody's gonna need to crack a joke in the few silent moments the team will have. Him and another.

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_dNgNPwAJDI.../gettimhal.jpg
Do we a have a dump big enough for a dead planet?

Ghost Rider Blaze - So a bunch of Foot Clan are presumably driving around in Decepticlone vehicles provided by Unicron. Who needs to get on the road and cash in the rap sheets of all of those ninja punks? You're damn right. The Rider can possess vehicles with hellfire to make it his own, what happens if he infects a Decepticlone?

Spider-Man - Back in New York, street punk ninjas arrive via space bridges. Seemingly there to riot and keep forces busy, Peter Parker decides to be responsible with all that great power of his. Perhaps he can enter a space bridge before it closes and infiltrate Unicron's body...

Superman - Thor knows a thing or two about godlike power, but there's somebody who as a personal investment in this battle. For years Superman had to watch as Darkseid tried to ruin the universe. For this event, he'd gladly relinquish the leadership role if it means focusing on getting that gauntlet off of Darkseid and beating his face in. Thor needs another heavy hitter, and someone who knows how Darkseid works. Clark is here to help.

http://img2.timeinc.net/ew/i/2011/08..._steel_510.jpg
I'm inside, I'll get Peter to the core.

And what happens next, plays out in your heads.

Kalyx triaD 04-04-2012 02:09 AM

Totally marking out at these teams.

LOL at Superman.

Nark Order 04-04-2012 02:13 AM

It would be pretty fucking irresponsible not to put Superman on the team, that's the problem. He probably should've been banned.

Kalyx triaD 04-04-2012 02:16 AM

Not that he's too powerful, but yeah he's a 'go-to' for sure.

CSL 04-04-2012 02:16 AM

1-5: Nightwing

Lock Jaw 04-04-2012 02:33 AM

I didn't even put Superman on my team for his power. Could have put some other shit powerful dude there. Put him there for what he means, and the inspiration and hope he brings.

Also, because I am a Superman mark.

Also, just thought right now that I could have technically used Hank Pym instead of The Atom. Hank Pym is smarter. He is kind of a douchebag though, even when he isn't beating his wife. You know what? Screw him. I'll stick with The Atom. No douches on my team.

Fignuts 04-04-2012 02:33 AM

Alright I'll do it for real.

(Leader)
http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/1...am_warlock.jpg
1. Adam Warlock
Intimate knowledge of the infinity gems and how to thwart those who seek to abuse them. Plus he's pretty powerful in his own right.

http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__...lactus_007.jpg
2. Galactus
Another reason why Warlock is leader. Adam has convinced Galactus to fight alongside him against the threat of the gauntlet before. I see no reason why he can't do it again. That's Unicron taken care of, right there.

http://images.wikia.com/marveldataba...rth-616%29.jpg
3. Mister Fantastic
Probably the smartest hero in the marvel universe. Together, with Adam, they can figure out a way to get the Gauntlet off of Darkseid. Way I see it, powerhouses are useless until you get the gauntlet away from Darkseid.

http://www.corvusonline.net/thanos/ThanosThrone.JPG
4. Thanos
Thanos is the total package for the battle against Darkseid. Like warlock, he has a wealth of experience with the gauntlet. He's as intelligent, if not more so than Richards. He has the power to possibly beat Darkseid one on one in combat after the gauntlet is taken care of. And he'll at least have help from Adam and richards, so it's a lock.

http://www.digitalbusstop.com/wp-con...irrel-Girl.jpg
5. Squirrel Girl
She's beaten Thanos and Doctor Doom. Bunch of teenage ninja wannabes should be pretty simple.

Now you might say this team is bunk because those characters would never team up, but when it comes to the infinite gauntlet, they would, and they actually have. That's why I kept it marvel. The Gauntlet might be the most powerful thing in all of comics, Marvel or DC. You'll get some strange bedfellows, with that kind of threat.

Kalyx triaD 04-04-2012 02:36 AM

You gonna trust Thanos in a battle where the gauntlet might be free to obtain for a moment?

Fignuts 04-04-2012 02:37 AM

Read The Infinity Gauntlet.

He doesn't want it.

Fignuts 04-04-2012 02:39 AM

He has on several occasions since then, aided the heroes from keeping it from others.

I've read EVERYTHING concerning the soul gems and the gauntlet. My team was picked as soon as you involved the thing.

Kalyx triaD 04-04-2012 02:40 AM

Still wouldn't trust him. In fact your team's a bigger threat than Darkseid/Unicron/Foot Clan. Some fragile psyche's there.

Kalyx triaD 04-04-2012 02:40 AM

You're insane, friend.

Fignuts 04-04-2012 02:47 AM

Desperate times...

Thanos does, have a sort of code of honor. Plus, over the years, he and Adam Warlock have developed something that actually resembles a friendship.

Besides there is nothing to gain from any sort of betrayal. Neither Adam or Thanos wants the gauntlet anymore. The Magus was taken care of already, so no need to worry about that. Galactus wouldn't care about anything else but getting the gauntlet off of darkseid and eating unicron.

These guys, while a huge threat in any other situation, have no reason to do anything but destroy darkseid here.

Except for squirrel girl. Total loose cannon that one.

Fignuts 04-04-2012 02:49 AM

When it comes to marvel's cosmic shenannigans, I know my shit. The universe will just have to trust me.

dronepool 04-04-2012 03:11 AM

Can I trust good ol' Doom? I'd totally draft him. At least he wouldn't destroy the universe.

Kalyx triaD 04-04-2012 03:13 AM

Depends.

Fignuts 04-04-2012 03:17 AM

Dr. Doom WOULD betray your team for the gauntlet.

Thanos may be evil, but as I said, he has a code. More importantly, he's had enough experience with all powerful objects to know that coveting them often leads to ruin.

Doom, not so much. He's still a bastard.

Fignuts 04-04-2012 03:19 AM

Which reminds me, I need to read the conclusion of Children's Crusade. think it's out now.

dronepool 04-04-2012 03:20 AM

BTW This happens in FF #16

http://i.imgur.com/0FLEd.jpg
http://i.imgur.com/OmAoe.jpg

Fignuts 04-04-2012 03:21 AM

Yeah, totally trustworthy.

Fignuts 04-04-2012 03:24 AM

Oh yeah Narc, I totally forgot to recommend Future Foundation to you. Right up there with X-Force as one of my favorite books right now.

Even if you don't like FF, check it out. I never cared for them at all, tbh, but this is really good stuff.

dronepool 04-04-2012 03:25 AM

Still better than Darkseid :) Besides he's on the Future Foundation, But I know his ego is too big to fully trust despite some honor. Truth be told I'd just like to read his read character be involved.

Skippord 04-04-2012 03:30 AM

alright I am not as good of a nerd as some of you people but this is my team, gonna try and keep Superman out of it

Captain America - Leader
Batman
Hulk
Thor
Black Panther

really had to fight myself to not include any X-Men

Fignuts 04-04-2012 03:33 AM

Outside of Magneto or Phoenix, x-men would be pretty useless.

Even Magneto doesn't really have the power to much damage to unicron. Would need some way to amplify his power, tremendously.

So good choice. Hope this geekxplanation has been helpful.
