So, what's going on with Hawkins & Reks?
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/ju5-fcZo60Y" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
To my knowledge, the back story of this angle is this: A few months back, Curt Hawkins & Tyler Reks randomly showed up on NXT after being ignored on RAW for quite a few months. They had banded together on RAW originally since they felt that they had been overlooked as individual performers. On NXT, they claimed that they were going to be "taking over," and refused to be ignored any more. Hawkins would eventually be injured in a match of some sorts, and would need a cane to support his weight for a couple of weeks. This would become a signature weapon of Hawkins (to Reks' benefit, as well) in the coming weeks. In desperate attempts to get attention, Reks & Hawkins started up their own animated YouTube show and would do everything they could to make life hell for Matt Striker and then officially appointed match-maker on NXT, William Regal. Hawkins & Reks recently kidnapped Matt Striker for Johnny Curtis & Maxine in an attempt to...well, do something. Hawkins & Reks would then meet this week's consequences: William Regal booked them in a match against each other, with the loser being fired. I actually thought the WWE would do something like this. In my mind, Regal had Hawkins & Reks face off with an IC Title shot on the line. One guy would win and then go on to lose to Big Show -- but the ultimate goal would be Regal dissolving their partnership. Now, this scenario has essentially done the same thing, but the question is: Where do we go from here? Do Hawkins & Reks spend some time in FCW working on their promo skills? Reks has seemingly gotten a lot better since he started, but Hawkins' mic skills, while not horrible, leave a lot to be desired. Do Hawkins & Reks decide to gate-crash NXT last week and perhaps take out William Regal? Do they gate-crash RAW or SmackDown!, hoping to do what they did on NXT on a grander stage? Or has their partnership successfully been dissolved by Regal? Will one or both be completely repackaged? |
Or, you know, they are actually fired in the post-Wrestlemania roster cuts.
|
I enjoy them both..... I'm still waiting for a Ryder, Hawkins & Barreta Long Island Connection stable..... you can even throw Reks in there as the muscle.....
|
I always thought they are both decient young guys, they should just stick them together to help rebuild the tag team division. Then again that makes sense so I dont see WWE doing that :-\
|
1) They show up on SmackDown, attack Primo/Epico and start a fued over the Tag belts.
2) They get "Spring Cleaned". 3) They go back to FCW, work on some stuff and either end up back at point 1) or at point 2). |
NXT is not canon.

As for Reks, he's alright, but I wouldn't say I'm a big fan of him. If he's released, he's released. If not, then that's good. |
I'm actually surprised Tyler Reks is still employed after the plane incident and the cartoon incident.
|
Plane incident?
Im sure Hawkins gets some Kudos for training with the Rock. |
Im surprised Striker still has a job.

In a bizarre incident, on On January 14, 2010, Reks apparently freaked out as a flight was minutes away from taking off at the airport in Green Bay, WI. Reks who was traveling home to Tampa from the Smackdown/ECW television taping complained to the flight crew that he observed strange movement on the flaps of the wings. He caused panic among other passengers by saying that the movement on the flap wasn't supposed to happen and that the plane was unsafe. He demanded to be deborded. Also Reks blurted out "If anyone else on the plane doesn't want to die then they should get off the plane too". The pilot decided that they didn't want to take any chances with him disrupting the flight or distressing the passengers so they returned to the terminal and escorted him off the plane. The flight was then delayed which annoyed many WWE employees |
Spring cleaning.

What Cool King said and have Reks tearing it up solo on SD.
|
I used to watch Superstars religiously when it was still on TV, mostly hoping to see a Curt Hawkins match. The dude can go. Way better than Zack Ryder, but I guess his YouTube series didn't take off.
Tyler Reks is pretty impressive as well. I remember him doing a fireman's carry from the top rope and just dropping down and basically hot-shotting his opponent over the top rope as he came down. I wish I could find that clip, because it was sick. Pretty sure I posted it here after I first saw it. |
I'm sure both these guys can wrestle well, but they've always bored me up to now.
|
I'd assume the WWE probably wants to tweak some of their stuff as a tag team and then redebut them later just to give Primo and Epico more teams to face.
|
Hawkins probably goes, just cause Reks is a big guy and we're back to pushing big talentless lugs to the moon again..
|
They probably weasel their way back onto NXT and continue feuding. NXT needs them since Young and O"Neal were moved up to Smackdown

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/ye-IZkxK3r0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Reks and Hawkins had teamed up the week before and won a match, but Reks then laid-out Hawkins with his Burning Hammer finisher, because he could and Reks was a bad-ass at the time. Hawkins then faced him the next week. Reks is deceptively good. He hides it well, but the guy can move around for his size. He's also trying to add interesting moves to his game. His new Killjoy finisher is pretty intense. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/T7RmwWckBqI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> And Curt Hawkins is just the goods. I definitely agree that he's better in the ring than Zack Ryder. His promo work isn't bad, but he just seems to go over-the-top with his acting. Something's out of place there. Hopefully he gets better, because when he does, he should not be ignored. |

But I personally like the idea of Regal firing both back-firing on him, with Hawkins & Reks again unifying and attacking Regal on NXT. It seems like the logical match to build to would be Hawkins & Reks vs. Regal & Striker. But perhaps Hawkins & Reks can play renegade on NXT for a few weeks? |
Someone months ago suggested Reks take on a dinosaur gimmick and call himself T Reks.
Hawkins can play the role of Richard Attenborough. |
Reks's matches suck sometimes because he uses 10000000 rest holds during them.
|
I've heard that complaint about Reks. I can understand it, but that's the WWE style, I think. I actually enjoyed him working as a babyface against Hawkins on NXT this week. He busted out some pretty sweet high-flying moves.
I think as a character, Reks works infinitely better as a heel right now -- the time to turn him face would have been when he was floundering on RAW before he got paired with Hawkins. He does need to find ways to energise his matches as a dominating heel, though. He tends to put crowds to sleep, which is probably why his heel push in late 2010 got de-railed. That and they were trying to introduce like four new heels on SmackDown! at the time. Reks should talk to Chris Jericho, or a heel who knows how to have a classic match as a bad guy. He needs to create an urgency in everything he does, so that when he does ground a guy with a chinlock, people are on the edge of their seats behind the fallen hero. He's got all the tools, he just needs to put them together into the full package. |
With there being so many more heel teams than face teams at the moment, I wouldn't be entirely against Epico & Primo turning face to feud with Hawkins & Reks. You could have Hawkins steal Rosa Mendes from them.
Or, if the WWE are actually splitting up Hawkins & Reks for different things, then I would love to see Hawkins paired up with Eve Torres to commence a feud with Zack Ryder. Hawkins and Ryder would surely bring out the best in each other, and there's plenty of history there. It could be like the Chris Jericho vs. Christian feud that had Trish Stratus involved, just on a much smaller scale (although Ryder is heaps over). Give Hawkins the US Title and let them feud over that. I'd have no clue what Reks could do by himself, but I feel that he could really use a manager. Have Abraham Washington or even Theodore Long manage him on SmackDown!. Maybe they could keep Reks off TV for a bit to just polish off his skills a bit, though. Wouldn't want to see him released, however. |

Matt Striker is, indeed, the goods. The guy is so passionate. I really wish that the SmackDown! commentary team was him, Josh Mathews and Booker T. Striker and Booker interacting would be absolutely hilarious.
|
I read somewhere that if Curt Hawkins and Tyler Reks can get #SaveReksandHawkins trending during RAW, then John Laurinaitis will re-hire them. That could be interesting.
|
I would absolutely love to see Hawkins & Reks with a gimmick where they act like babyfaces to get everyone to cheer them and save their jobs, but are still totally heels, if you know what I mean?
|
Just look at that promo Striker cut before that Hawkins vs Reks match. How ridiculously comfortable and engaging is he?! He made some storyline on NXT sound so big time. He's SO fucking good.
|
Regal, Striker, Curtis... all my wrestling man-crushes are on NXT :-\
