TPWW Did You Know?

Use this thread to highlight things you had no idea about in wrestling, or think that no one else would know about.

Example: I had no idea until today that Mrs. Cleavage/Marianna had died in 2004.

#1-norm-fan 07-23-2012 02:58 AM

I remember reading about that not long ago. Crazy.

Kane Knight 07-23-2012 03:01 AM

TIL

#1-norm-fan 07-23-2012 03:26 AM

I had no idea until recently that in 2000, ECW PPVs were actually getting better buyrates on average than WCW PPVs. In some cases doubling the buyrate of WCW's PPV for the same month.

Shisen Kopf 07-23-2012 07:57 AM

Didn't know this until I did know it: Scott Hall took a dump in Sunny's lunch on a tour of Germany in the spring of 1996.

CSL 07-23-2012 01:20 PM

couple of "well known" random ones off the top of my head:

Shane McMahon (or "Shane Stevens") was a referee in the early 90's

Earl Hebner was refereeing Starrcade's and War Games etc for NWA while Dave Hebner was refereeing WrestleMania's and Survivor Series

Husky Harris/Bray Wyatt has the coolest real wrestling name ever (Windham Rotunda)

Vader had his eye knocked out/dislodged in a match and simply popped it back in before continuing

Vince once took the Road Warrior's "Doomsday Device" in a strip club

Big Vic 07-23-2012 02:09 PM

AnyBody Thrilla got his name from a juggalo rapper.

LOL what?

whiteyford 07-23-2012 02:25 PM

Sure he took more than just the Doomsday Device that night.

CSL 07-23-2012 02:26 PM

yeahhh, apparently Vince used to enjoy drinking with the boys and wanted to actually be a wrestler before getting into his dad's business, he'd apparently make claims to be "just as tough as the boys" or something and then they'd egg him on to take certain moves. He took Bret and Anvil's "Hart Attack" also apparently. Been spoken about by quite a few guys like Bret, Piper, Animal etc.

Keith 07-23-2012 02:27 PM

Haha in a strip club, though? Couldn't they just go in the ring before the next event and practice?

You can call Vinnie Mac "Marc Mero", because he's a "Wildman".

whiteyford 07-23-2012 02:27 PM

Can't remember the shoot it was from, remember the guy seemed quite chuffed Vince wasn't a dick about the next day though.

Rollermacka 07-23-2012 04:01 PM

Marc Mero originated the term "jabroni"

NWO did crotch chops before DX.

Hulk Hogan got the biggest pop of the night at Bound for Glory 2011 (that might just be sad)

Why is that a surprise? Doesn't that happen regularly?

Damndirty 07-23-2012 04:21 PM

Lance Cade's death was pretty unexpected, so was Test's.

RiX1024 07-23-2012 04:23 PM

CM Punk was in the doghouse for outpopping DX.

bigslimjj 07-25-2012 06:01 PM

didn't know until I did that Sid took a sid in the ring, and for the longest I didnt know HBK's real last name was higginbottom.lol

XL 07-25-2012 07:55 PM

Hickenbottom.

Swiss Ultimate 07-25-2012 08:41 PM

I think a lot of people probably understand how things work now, but when I was a kid at an ECW house show I saw Sabu defeat Taz in a FTW match back when nobody ever beat Taz and I thought it was fucking amazing.

Stepped in a puddle of Taz and Sabu's collective blood that night.

Big Vic 07-26-2012 09:43 AM

I just learned that The Miz and Cena were tag Champs together.

irishmaster 07-26-2012 01:38 PM

I didnt know how to pronounce HHH real surname. I had seen it written a few times and tried to say it but I think it was CM Punk who said it sometime last summer and i was wayyy off.

And Brock Lesnar is married to Sable. No idea at all.

Savio 07-26-2012 07:46 PM

Of the current tag title no Team has held them more than 3 times.

Gertner 07-28-2012 11:04 AM

Heath Slater is a 3 time champion

Mr. Nerfect 07-28-2012 11:29 AM

Heath Slater has scored falls against Bret Hart, Edge and Chris Jericho.

Brigstocke 07-28-2012 03:04 PM

Edge was married to Val Venis's Sister in 2001.

Corporate CockSnogger 07-28-2012 03:13 PM

Brigstocke is married to his own sister in 2012.

whiteyford 07-28-2012 03:22 PM

Brigstocke's Welsh?

Brigstocke 07-28-2012 03:43 PM

If Iginfest reveals anymore of Brigstocke's secrets. Brigstocke will stop providing clients for iginfests sister when she's on shift at the Docklands.

whiteyford 07-28-2012 03:44 PM

That's just Iggy in a dress, no need to keep up the charade.

Brigstocke 07-28-2012 03:48 PM

Could you tell because of his pokeballs?

whiteyford 07-28-2012 03:51 PM

At first it was the stubble, but all Scouse girls sport a moustache so I couldn't really be sure...

SlickyTrickyDamon 07-28-2012 04:03 PM

Did You Know?

SlickyTrickyDamon's first PPV attended live was Survivor Series 2008?

I remember where WWE made a brief angle on this which ended with Venis pinning Edge with a Fisherman's suplex on Smackdown and shaking hands afterward. They didn't take the angle to PPV or anything.

Mr. Nerfect 07-29-2012 03:09 AM

I'm sure I've mentioned this somewhere before, but in a kayfabe world, Garett Bischoff and Eugene Dinsmore are cousins.

Of course we all knew that. That question is on the SATs now

Shisen Kopf 07-29-2012 11:38 PM

Did you know that 1-2-3 Kid was originally going to be given a gimmick like king king bundy where he would pin them at a 5 count. WWF decided that 1-2-3-4-5 Kid was too awesome to unleash on the crowd so we got a watered down version. In WCW Waltman would have been know as 15 if he had kept his original gimmick.

Autobahn 07-30-2012 04:58 AM

When Mae Young did this, as a rib Michael Hayes (I think) got Mae to put sardines in her underwear:

Kurt Angle's neck is now comprised mainly of sawdust and old newspapers.

Providence Peep 07-31-2012 12:10 AM

The Ultimate Warrior is responsible for Triple H's unfulfilled need to bury anyone and everyone.
