Netflix Review Thread

So I finally finished the entire Firefly series and topped it off with the feature film Serenity. All of it is available right now on the U.S. version of Netflix. I think I can better understand the love for Joss Whedon now that I've seen this and I was already a fan of Buffy and Angel although I stopped my Netflix marathons for both of those series around the last season or so.

Show was a fun interpretation of the space western genre, was funny when it needed to be and had decent action. If you're bored and you have access to the series and movie, I fully endorse this already geek-approved cult-classic.

The film was far from perfect, but it accomplished the job of closing loose ends in a short amount of time and still managing to be good.

Use this thread to point me and others towards goodies on Netflix.

Dunno what the selection is like compared to here, obviously different, but it's full of crap on there.

I'd like to watch the Big Bang Theory in order, instead of watching whatever comes on TV. There's a few films I need to catch, also a few asian / indian films I want to watch on there.

For £5.50 p/m, it's good value indeedy. NEver checked out Firefly

Sometimes the catalogue gets a bit slim and sometimes it's got a lot of major films and fun tv shows, cult films.

The day Ravenous gets on Netflix will be a good one...though I have the DVD so why I care about that I can't say.

I just started Firefly last week on Netflix. I'm loving it so far.

Jayne is awesome.

Ultra Mantis 09-21-2012 08:22 PM

I hated Jayne at first but he was easily my favourite character by the end of the TV show. Pretty disappointed the movie is not on UK Netflix, might have to exploit the LoveFilm free trail to watch it.

There's an old Canadian cartoon on Netflix called "Kevin Spencer" that I have taken a liking to. It's very adult-oriented even more so than South Park is. Last time I checked it was still on streaming, but it's been awhile since I've watched it on there.

Been going through Buffy/Angel again. Sort of stopped in the near the end of Season 4 for Buffy and the first one for Angel. Was going to try to find a what order to watch the episodes this time around, but forgot. Buffy seemed to get worse over the seasons after like three, but Angel seemed to get better.

Lost is good

Swiss Ultimate 09-22-2012 09:34 AM

Couldn't get into it at all, Skip.

Swiss Ultimate 09-25-2012 04:08 PM

Parents. I hadn't seen this movie since I was a small child. While watching it again just now I figured out the origin of a nightmare I had way back when where a bloody hand was reaching out of the sink.

Such a great film.

Watch Goon. Seriously. Amazing.

dronepool 09-25-2012 05:26 PM

I never watched Firefly but I recently watched 3 episodes of Once Upon A Time and it's a pretty cool show!

I've been avoiding it, but I saw that Tennis movie he was in and it was decent so maybe I should give it a chance. *Instant Queue*

Miotch 09-25-2012 05:57 PM

Goon is so fucking good.

SlickyTrickyDamon 09-26-2012 01:29 AM

Stiffler in a hockey movie. I'm sold.

Update: Watched it. Probably the best hockey movie since Slap Shot.

Skippord 09-26-2012 03:20 AM

Goon is wonderful

The 7th season of Supernatural was just uploaded Sunday. It's good stuff, if you haven't watched it.

I also remember watching Parents as a child. Odd movie.
If you haven't seen Basket Case, I think that's on there too. Another 80's gem.

Swiss Ultimate 09-28-2012 10:27 AM

It's been a long time since I saw Basket Case. Awesome. If you're a fan of Troma I believe that the Toxic Avenger films are available now.

Miotch 09-28-2012 01:15 PM

You still haven't watched Goon, have you?

Swiss Ultimate 09-28-2012 03:12 PM

My son owns the television downstairs and plays Brutal Legend like a crack addict, I suppose I could watch it on my computer upstairs.

Miotch 09-28-2012 03:44 PM

Or you could just claim ownership of the television because your hard earned money paid for it.

Swiss Ultimate 09-28-2012 04:54 PM

Okay watched Goon. Was fucking great. New respect for Sean William Scott.

Swiss Ultimate 09-28-2012 05:56 PM

It had a very straight-forward story, likable main-characters, the violence was great and the Russian brothers were classic.

Miotch 09-28-2012 06:39 PM

Not the exact photo, but I loved this bit...

I like that there wasn't a lame scene where Dougie reunited with his dad at the end. All the usual sports movie bullshit was missing.

What did you think of the movie?

"I was nervous when I first heard about it because I wasn't sure what kind of movie they were going to make. But when I saw it, I was honored the way it came out. It really told the story of the book. And that's what I wanted."

How did you think Scott did?

"Movie critics said that might be his best work in a movie. He was great. I didn't like how it came across that I was so mean all the time, but I get that it was a movie. He is getting a lot of accolades, as he should."

People today are questioning whether fighting should be in hockey. Your thoughts?

"All this talk about concussions is misguided. All these athletes who are having problems didn't get head injuries from fighting. They got it from other ways. I get that the hockey players shouldn't go on the ice just to fight. But I went out there to protect my teammates and send a message."

If you had to do it over again, would you be the enforcer again?

"If there is a team out there now that wants to hire a 47-year-old hockey player, give me a call. I still have it."

Ever want to get into a fight these days?

"I still work out and box, but, seriously, I'm getting too old to get out there and fight!"

If the real Doug thought that Sean William Scott played him "mean" the guy must be a human teddy bear.

Swiss Ultimate 02-16-2013 12:26 PM

Lilyhammer is pretty fucking tight. An ex-wise guy asks to be sent to Norway by the Witness Protection Program and basically fucks up a lot of people as he rebuilds.

OssMan 02-16-2013 03:51 PM

watched a couple movies for class

"the company men" an independent movie with high profile actors, mostly boring, about CEOs and business people losing their jobs in a struggling economy
"tambien la lluvia" about these directors from spain who go to bolivia to make a movie about christopher columbus's colonization of the new world and how the bolivian government tried to privatize water, a lot of parallels, good but felt like i missed a lot
"bamako" a town in mali going through some mock trial, unbearable, couldn't watch it, didn't finish it

razorblade kisses 02-16-2013 07:06 PM

I really enjoyed Jericho, I didn't see it the first time round in the UK.
