Would Batista vs. Lesnar be a big Wrestlemania Attraction?
I'd rather see Taker vs. Lesnar but: If the WWE insists on Brock being the "Ultimate Fighting Machine" and Taker isn't Brock's opponent at Mania, would Dave Batista be an appealing option?
I saw Batista's fight and he didn't look good at all. Plus he's 43 and has to realize he has no chance in hell of ever becoming UFC heavyweight champion. HOWEVA, most wrestling fans are booger eaters and would still believe that Batista is a legit MMA badass with the right hype package. Batista's affiliation with Gracie Fighter (a damn good MMA camp that includes the Diaz Brothers, Gilbert Melendez and Jake Shields if you don't follow the sport) could help establish Batista's MMA credibility to the WWE audience, especially if Vince does go with a Boxing/UFC type Countdown Show for Wrestlemania. So what do you think of a scenario where Triple H returns and instead of challenging Lesnar to a rematch, surprises everyone by announcing the return of Dancin' Dave? |
csl, you have my permission to comment in this thread even though you are the fraudulent moderator of the MMA forum because for some strange reason, I want your opinion on this, but didn't feel like it was appropriate for the MMA forum.
Same to you Steele. Only difference is that I love you, unlike csl. |
UFC is a work, so if Dave is booked right and wins the Rumble, he'll have a UFC title shot by 2013
|
hahaha I was about to post "you have my permission to post in the wrestling forum" or something when I saw the thread but you completely took the wind out of my sails with the 2nd post :o
|
but yeah, it would appeal. Maybe not based around the whole MMA stuff, just an attraction featuring two really big names in wrestling terms. Or yeah, maybe even have Dave be all "well I can fight AND wrestle too grrrrr"
|
Batista with the Diaz brothers in his corner is a personal thing of dreams for me, if only just to see how long it takes Nick to get them to stop using him
|
Nick would definitely do something ridiculous like flip the bird during Raw or no show Wrestlemania weekend altogether. Dana would probably veto their participation anyways.
|
Don't wanna see it.
Don't really care much about seeing Batista in wrestling again, either. To be honest. |
Batista w/ Vince McMahon
vs Lesnar w/ Dana White |
See, if they were gonna play that angle, it'd be better in my opinion to have the WWE guy be more of a legit "WWE guy". Undertaker w/ Vince vs. Lesnar w/ Dana would be more appealing.
|
No.
The only matches that make sense for Lesnar at this point are..... -Lesnar vs. Taker (preferred) -Lesnar vs. Ryback -Lesnar vs. Triple H II |
It was Batista's first fight. Give him time to find his niche in MMA, just like Lesnar and Lashley did.

If WCW could pretend Tank Abbott was a storied UFC fighter, then I see no reason why WWE could not do the same for one of its veteran talents.
|
Tank Abbot was a legit fighter, though. He fought Dan Severn, Don Frye, and Vito Belfort just to name a few, before he went to WCW. Batista has only had one fight, thus the fans wouldn't buy it.

No. Batista does not to be anywhere near a wrestlemania match unless he can come back and have time to establish his character again and not be a whiny little bitch because he lost to duct tape
|
I think Batista would get a huge reaction if he came back. He was the hottest thing in wrestling for a short period of time (thank you Triple H) and was one of the top guys for 5 years.

No but not because its Batista as his opponent or probably would be a gimmick MMA type match.
Would seem a bit like a random throw away type match than something huge considering Lesnar has several worthy candidates to either produce a good match (ex. Triple H, Cena) or help with a rub (ex. Ryback, Sheamus?). I'd save Batista for the next year and make him be the big name surprise returning star for the year like was done for the Rock and Lesnar. |
I want to see Batista come back and BATISTA BOMB Albert.
|
I want to see Brock Lesnar vs. Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania next year. Just saying. I think that would be MASSIVE, would tell a great story in the ring, and you could put either guy over and no one really gets hurt either way. The poster for the event makes me think that the WWE might actually do The Rock vs. Brock Lesnar vs. John Cena -- which would be huge, and at least has a full-time guy in there.
Imagine this WrestleMania card: * CM Punk vs. The Rock vs. John Cena for the WWE Title * Sheamus vs. The Undertaker for the World Heavyweight Title * Shawn Michaels vs. Brock Lesnar * Triple H vs. Dolph Ziggler * Big Show vs. Ryback * Mask vs. Mask: Rey Mysterio vs. Sin Cara * Wade Barrett vs. Chris Jericho * Randy Orton vs. The Miz * A Divas Title Match to cool the crowd between main events * Kane & Daniel Bryan vs. The Masters of the Universe (Antonio Cesaro & Kassius Ohno) * Some sort of multi-man match featuring guys like Alberto Del Rio, Christian, Cody Rhodes, Damien Sandow, Kofi Kingston, Mark Henry, R-Truth & Santino Marella |
Make the pre-show match between Tyson Kidd and Hunico, who aren't ready for WrestleMania spots, but are two of the best actual workers in the WWE, and could have themselves a great little match for the DVD. Put Kidd over and that can be his little moment. Make this for the US Title, or something, even, and perhaps the end of a Best of 7 Series between them, organised by Booker T. Cesaro loses the belt to Kane (making Kane a Grand Slam Champion), who then loses the belt to Hunico when Cesaro & Ohno get some revenge on Kane for costing Cesaro the title, which would be one of those Attitude-era "shocking" title changes. It'd be a little nod to the ability and trustworthy-ness of Hunico's work. He and Camacho can attack Justin Gabriel in a backstage beating, and Gabriel can play injured and add drama to Kidd fighting Hunico alone, and give him something else to fight for (a personal and professional victory for Kidd).
* Open WrestleMania with the Tag Team Title Match. Bryan & Kane are an over enough act to kick the show off with a bang, and I think Ohno & Cesaro's act would get them pretty over as challenging heels. Bryan & Kane defeat Ohno & Cesaro after what would be a nice little PPV opener, and then proudly proclaim "WE are the Tag Team Champions!" * Let's have the clusterfuck match next, and let's make it Money in the Bank -- for a shot at either championship -- Del Rio vs. Christian vs. Rhodes vs. Sandow vs. Heath Slater Kingston vs. Henry vs. Truth vs. Marella vs. Zack Ryder. I know a lot of people won't think Slater belongs in there, but Slater has been featured on WWE TV pretty consistently, and it would actually be quite dramatic if Slater were to earn a spot, and there was the "Will Drew McIntyre and Jinder Mahal play a part?" in the match? I guess you could have Brodus Clay, The Great Khali or David Otunga filling a spot here, too, but I'd just have them dance together with some of the Divas later on -- Otunga tries to stop it and gets beaten up. I'd give the win and the briefcase to Sandow here, because I think he would be the most interesting personal with the case. You could very easily go with Del Rio, Christian, Rhodes or Kingston, though. Ryder having a spot where it looks like he might win could get a massive pop and be a nice WrestleMania moment, as well. * Next you have the undefeated Ryback going against the biggest challenge he could ever face -- literally -- The Big Show. Going into Mania, Show talks about how he has won matches at the last three WrestleManias and he's getting momentum behind him; he's both the unstoppable force and the immovable object, etc. In my perfect world, Ryback would have aligned himself with Paul Heyman here, and would have been tossed out of the Royal Rumble by Big Show, leading to Ryback's fixation on Show, against Heyman's wishes. So this would technically be heel vs. heel, but Ryback would be a super-over heel taking on a challenge -- not unlike John Cena challenging Big Show for the US Title at WrestleMania XX. Ryback does something that makes him look super-strong and he wins here. * Randy Orton faces The Miz next. You could have The Miz defend the Intercontinental Championship here, as well. The Miz has a nice little WrestleMania streak going, so you could end that here, because the WWE does like to quell streaks, or you could have The Miz actually get the victory, one of the biggest in his career (especially if it is clean), making his reign as IC Champion look pretty special, and to make him 4-0 at WrestleMania. * There's some interlude here where the WWE blows its own shit for a little bit. * Barrett beats Jericho in a match between one-time student and one-time master. They could tell a great story, and a clean heel victory for Barrett would be pretty impressive for him at this point in his career. * Rey Mysterio and Sin Cara do their stuff, and Sin Cara wins here. Rey shows his face to the world, and hopefully gets a nice pop for his contributions to the WWE for what would be almost 11 years at that point -- with many more years spent in WCW, ECW and Mexico before that. * Hall of Fame guys come out, and this separates the "main events" from the rest of the show. * Dolph Ziggler beats Triple H, perhaps with some new finishing move. Ideally, Ric Flair would have come in as Dolph's new manager, with Dolph kicking Vickie Guerrero to the curb. Ziggler would not have cashed in his Money in the Bank title shot yet. Triple H is all upset at Ric for managing Dolph -- perhaps Dolph and Ric get up to some nasty business that Triple H doesn't like -- thus setting up this match. Perhaps Dolph can hit on Stephanie McMahon a few times, and really get under Triple H's skin? * Next up is Sheamus defending the World Title against The Undertaker. I'd have John Cena win the Royal Rumble, but Sheamus obviously needs a challenger, so he is standing in the ring wanting to know who is left for him to beat, when the lights go out and the gong goes off. The story here is that The Undertaker wants to still prove he is World Heavyweight Champion material -- taking his quest to prove himself even further from last year -- Sheamus is humbled and honoured to fight The Undertaker at WrestleMania, but as Sheamus warns Undertaker -- the bad news for you, fella, is that I'm not scared. Taker tries to get into Sheamus' head, but The Celtic Warrior keeps his marbles together. Triple H tells Sheamus that he can't do what he and Shawn Michaels couldn't do, and Sheamus tells Triple H "No disrespect -- but I'm not you or Shawn Michaels. I'm Sheamus, and I'm the toughest son of a bitch this business has ever seen. I don't like being told I can't do things -- so now I have to beat The Undertaker just make a right fool out of you, Hunter." I have no ideal outcome for this match. If Sheamus looked superb in his promos and ring work and stepped up his character leading into the event, I might even be saying that he should be the one to do it. They could do a spot not unlike Shawn Michaels/Ric Flair or Shawn Michaels/Taker where Taker slowly gets to his feet after kicking out of White Noise, The Irish Curse, a Celtic Cross and even a Brogue Kick or two. Sheamus has a look on his face like he knows he's won the match, but he's almost upset at the lengths he has to put The Undertaker through -- this man too proud to just stay down. He is setting up one last Brogue Kick and hesitates instead of calling for it as fiercely as he has a previous one. Taker slowly gets to his feet, and then does his throat-cut motion -- as Sheamus realises that this is it -- and Brogue Kicks Taker one last time to win the match. You'd witness something special, to say the least. Sheamus apparently wants to be the top guy -- if he feels he's up to handling the pressure of being "The One," then why not give him this shot? Sheamus would get the biggest win of his life, continue a 1+ year World Heavyweight Title reign, and he'd now have two MITB briefcase holders to worry about. * This is where Brodus Clay, The Great Khali, Booker T, Teddy Long, new US Champion Tyson Kidd, the Divas and any other babyfaces that they want on the main show do some dancing. "Excuse me!" Vickie Guerrero makes her return after being dumped by Dolph Ziggler with her new client -- David Otunga, who sips some coffee and says that this is a deplorable display, and he is ashamed that the Divas are being treated with such misogynist disrespect. John Laurinaitis comes out, as well, and says that when he was General Manager, this rubbish never happened. Cue Otunga and Big Johnny getting beaten down by the babyfaces. * Shawn Michaels and Brock Lesnar are next. This would be another epic. If Brock is leaving the WWE after this, and he knows that he absolutely won't do more dates with the WWE, then HBK winning would not be a bad thing. But there's also no harm in putting Brock over, even by submission. Such an honour might even convince Brock to do some more dates and re-sign with the company. Heyman's Guys go 2-0 at this point in the night if Lesnar wins. * It's the Divas Title match next, and I'd perhaps give the spot to AJ Lee and, in my perfect world, Kharma. But let's go with Paige otherwise. Paige connects with audiences on NXT, and she's a damn good female worker. It's a shame this will be used as a cooler, but it may surprise some people and turn people around on just what female workers can accomplish in the business. AJ could be a crazy heel by this point, or she and Paige could "respect" each other. Bring in Trish Stratus to present the winner with the Divas Title. I'd go with Paige here, since I think people would be in to her journey to the top. * Finally we get to the main event, with CM Punk defending the WWE Title against The Rock and John Cena in a Triple Threat Match. Punk keeps the WWE Title until the Royal Rumble, where he gets himself DQ'd against The Rock by using the belt as a weapon. Punk gloats that he doesn't need to beat The Rock, The Rock needs to beat him and he won't be back for another nine months while he makes crappy Disney movies. Cena wins the Royal Rumble and earns one last shot against CM Punk. At Hell in a Cell, I'd have Ryback enter the Cell and align himself with Punk and Heyman -- perhaps with the added stipulation that if Punk won that match, he and Heyman would gain some sort of power that they could use to ensure Cena never got another title shot. Heyman as RAW GM, perhaps? This also gets AJ back into the ring. Anyway, Cena wins the Rumble, and he finds a way that Heyman and Punk can't screw him out of more shots. The Rock wants in, since he beat Cena at Mania last year and beat Punk at the Rumble. The Triple Threat starts off with The Rock & Cena working together and beating the absolute piss out of Punk. They perhaps even hit their finishers on Punk early, with Cena cutting off a People's Elbow and leading to Cena and Rock fighting as Heyman tries everything he can to wake up Punk. Eventually, Punk gets back into the ring, and cuts off a People's Elbow from The Rock, just like he did at RAW 1000. The Rock kicks out of a GTS at this point. Cena & Rock then team up to put Punk through an announce table. Cena and Rock fight some more, and Cena gets an STF on Rock, who stays in the move for a LOOOOOOONG time. Punk flies in with the WWE Title belt and nails Cena with it, however. Cena rolls to the floor and Punk lines up The Rock for a belt shot. He nails him with it like at the Rumble, but The Rock kicks out at two. Punk then goes for another belt shot, but Rock catches him with the Rock Bottom! Punk manages to kick out at two, however, and The Rock is amazed at Punk's toughness. You know, that sort of main event stuff. Eventually, Heyman runs down and tries to save Punk's WWE Title himself, just when it looks like The Rock is about to become the WWE Champion. He gets a Rock Bottom, however, and then Cena gives him an Attitude Adjustment for added measure. Punk, worried his title is in jeopardy, knocks the referee out. More referees run out, but Punk keeps kicking them, punching them, giving them GTS, etc. Eventually... <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/rvn0j7WlNl0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Out comes the man himself, in a black and white striped shirt. Punk looks like someone just kicked his dog. Austin gets in the ring and Punk tries to pin both The Rock and Cena after he's gone to town on each with a steel chair. Both kick out. Punk gets in Austin's face. Punk shoves Austin out of frustration, as a recovering Heyman at ringside yells "NO! PUNK!" Fingers, kick, Stunner! Cena crawls into the cover, 1-2...Heyman grabs Austin's hand. "Please! Please, Mr. Stone Cold! I'm sorry -- I have to!" Finger, kick, Stunner! Cena gets Punk up for an Attitude Adjustment -- connects! 1-2-3! "BAHGAWD! CENA HAS ENDED CM PUNK'S 505 DAY REIGN AS WWE CHAMPION!" "Hallelujah!" Out comes Damien Sandow with his Money in the Bank briefcase! "By gawd! Sandow is cashing in at the main event of WrestleMania!" Sandow shoves the briefcase into Austin's arms. "Ring the bell! I wish to implement my title opportunity!" Austin just stares at Sandow in a "Did you just shove this into my arms and tell me what to do?" Sort of way. "Ring the bell, redneck!" Austin throws the briefcase down. Finger, kick, Stunner. Austin cracks open some beers and shares them with the new WWE Champion. A slowly rising CM Punk gets to his feet and gets a Stunner for his trouble before Austin pours beer over the face of CM Punk. Austin and Cena are celebrating, when The Rock gets back in the ring. Rock and Cena stare at each other as the music stops. Austin offers Rock a beer to break the tension. Rock is all "Huh? What?" and Austin is all "Do you want a beer?" Rock says "You're damn right I want a beer!" and Austin gives The Rock a beer. He then shakes John Cena's hand and the three mega-faces celebrate with beer as Cena's music plays to close the show. |
Honestly, they need to not do anything with Cena/Punk together after Hell In A Cell/Survivor Series. Enough is fucking enough.
|
I'd rather see Batista come back and face Ryback. I feel Lesnar would be better off facing Taker
|
THE RYBACK vs Brock vs Batista vs goldberg vs Big Show vs Mark Henry vs Hornswoggle in one of them elimination chamber deals.
|
Nah.
|
I'm not particualry interested in that match. it could have a fun build, but I can't see the payoff being very good. i think there would be an awkward style clash between the two.
|
Yeah, both men are too big to perform a Styles Clash. Bound to look awkward.
