UFC 156

Rashad Evans may have had Lyoto Machida in mind as an ideal opponent for his return to the Octagon, but he will instead square off with Antonio Rogerio Nogueira.

MMAWeekly.com sources confirmed that Evans vs. Nogueira has been verbally agreed to and is being targeted for the UFC’s Super Bowl weekend pay-per-view on Feb. 2, 2013. The bout was first reported by Brazilian news site SporTV.

Evans (17-2-1) hasn’t set foot in the Octagon since he lost to current UFC light heavyweight champion and former teammate Jon Jones at UFC 145 in April.

Evans knows that he’ll have to fight his way back into a position to challenge for the belt again, but his intention is to remain in the 205-pound division.

“I want to be at light heavyweight because there is unfinished business. I can’t go down unless something really beckons for my calling. I like to fight at 205 and I have done fairly well there,” Evans told UFC Tonight recently, citing his desire to avenge a loss to Machida.

Nogueira (20-5) enters the fight with a win over UFC Hall of Famer Tito Ortiz at UFC 140 in December of last year. He had planned to get back in the Octagon at UFC on Fuel TV 2 in April, but has been on the sidelines nursing a knee injury.

The Super Bowl weekend event is likely to be dubbed UFC 157, but promotion officials have yet to verify its numbering.

I would have like him to get Machida or to face Hendo.. This will be a good fight but I think Rashad's wrestling will be the deciding factor..

Next Big Thing 10-29-2012 05:14 PM

Wack. Rashad can do better than Lil Nog. Should have been Machida or Hendo.

MoFo 10-29-2012 06:31 PM

Might as well of gone down to 185, waste of time fight

Crimson 10-29-2012 07:45 PM

Why even make this fight..not excited

Kris P Lettus 10-30-2012 01:15 AM

Yall are acting like Lil Nog is a chump.. He has only lost twice in the UFC (both by decision) both to guys on the cusp of title shots (Davis and Bader).. Before his UFC run, he has beaten everyone from Hendo to Overeem (twice) to Sakuraba to Matishanko..

He is not a scrub..

Next Big Thing 10-30-2012 07:50 AM

If this was 7 years ago you'd have a point. In the UFC he's beaten two curtain jerkers who aren't with the UFC anymore and a way past his prime Tito Ortiz, while losing to two top contenders (well really only one since Bader has been exposed as a bit overrated). If he couldn't beat Bader or Davis, what is he doing in there against Rashad? Not an exciting matchup.

Krimzon7 10-30-2012 09:31 AM

i wanna see Shad drop to 85.

Kris P Lettus 11-15-2012 12:18 PM

Overeem vs Bigfoot added to this card..

Kris P Lettus 11-15-2012 04:21 PM

Now I'm hearing Hendo vs Machida will likely happen on this card..

This super bowl weekend card is shaping up nicely..

Hendo/Machida
Rashad/Lil Nog
Overeem/Big Foot

Throw a returning Nick Diaz against the loser of Condit/GSP (barring injury) in there and you've got yrself a winner..

Kris P Lettus 11-15-2012 04:23 PM

A no title fight super card IMO..

Unless they throw in a fly, feather, or bantom weight title fight on there..

Kris P Lettus 11-15-2012 04:25 PM

Then the Saints will beat the Broncos in the Superdome the following night, I will be jizzing all over the place..

Krimzon7 11-15-2012 05:09 PM

Kris P you just HAVE to take it too far...Saint's and Bronco's.. Are you Vicky Valencourt right now?

As for the card: BLACKZILLIANS SHOWING UP! I wish shad would just get over it and cut the fucking weight to 85. hell, maybe he feels like a legit contender once bones is done running wild through LHW.

AND OVEREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEM! I'VE GOT SUCH A RAGING ERECTION RIGHT NOW!

weather vane 11-16-2012 02:00 AM

Fitch/Maia added...

What a stacked fucking card. Wow.

Next Big Thing 11-16-2012 12:14 PM

In hindsight, it was a smart move on Bigfoot Silva's part to leave the Blackzilians after Overeem joined the team.

Next Big Thing 11-16-2012 12:15 PM

Let's pray for no injuries.

Big Vic 11-16-2012 12:24 PM

Saints won't even make it to the playoffs.

Kris P is just a delusional Saints fan. All those seasons wearing paper bags over his head cut off oxygen to his brain and killed off whatever part controls rational thought and logic. Otherwise, he wouldn't be a Saints fan.

It's going to be a sick weekend because after a stacked card, the Falcons and the Patriots are going to play for the Super Bowl in the Superdome.

Uggghhhhhh

Krimzon7 11-17-2012 01:08 AM

It's well known that i'm a Bengals fan. But you won't come here espousing bullshit like the two of you( Saint's gonna go all the way/Falcons gonna run the table)

The truth of the matter is that the only team from the NFC South that will be playing late in the playoffs(Read:after the wildcard) Will be the TAMPA BAY BUCS. they're stacking up to be a tough out for anybody that they play.

New Orleans just has too much to overcome to even be relevant in the playoff picture. Get the fuck over that already bro.

Atlanta won't ever be shit as long as matt ryan is there to choke away playoff games. He's literally the new peyton manning: Regular season stud, playoff pariah

Kris P Lettus 11-17-2012 01:21 AM

lol someone's drunk

Next Big Thing 11-17-2012 08:14 AM

Man Krimzon. I thought you were better than this. You think you know someone and then all of a sudden they say some shit about the Tampa Bay Bucs and late playoff antics and it's like boom... Hi Hater!

Krimzon7 11-17-2012 09:36 AM

#HEEL

NBT it's time to meet bro. Let's go watch UFC tonight! TPWW First official atlanta MMA/UFC meetup

Drunk on reality! C'mon son, you gotta realize the preposterousness of your statements. Just made up this word, I think, but come on...Saint's fans have to realize that a wild card birth is an amazing enough feat to accomplish.

Atlanta fans *besides NBT* irk the shit out of me. These motherfuckers have NEVER had back to back winning seasons until three years ago and now they're expecting titles? Matt Ryan has shown you this type of play before, and he's broken your hearts before. He's a playoff cock tease. I mean, hell he's had homefield advantage through the playoffs before...how did THAt work out?

I don't want to derail this thread anymore, but Ima say this about that...

I agree to an extent. I want to slap the shit out of so many fans who say we need a new coach and quarterback. There needs to be some fucking perspective.

You're wrong about Matty Ice though. It took greats like Brees and Manning 8 or 9 seasons to get their first Super Bowl ring, Ryan's only in his fifth year. He's got time. Plus, the last two playoff losses were to the Super Bowl champions, so it's not like they were getting knocked off by some flash in the pan.

Next Big Thing 11-17-2012 10:56 AM

Back on the MMA tip, I wonder how much smaller Overeem will look when he fights Big Foot Silva? And if Silva does beat Ubereem, would that make Alistair the biggest bust in UFC history?

I can admit that I'm a bit of a hater, as I hate Peyton Manning, and when people compare Matty Ice to him, it draws my vitriol. He does look better, but I will not believe it until I see it from him.

Overeem looks the same bro. He is also an amazing kick boxer there won't be any drop off from UBEREEM

Pretty pumped for this card even without the Hendo/Machida..

Edgar
Reem
Rashad

Next Big Thing 02-01-2013 02:51 PM

I think people are sleeping on this card. I've warmed up to Evans/Lil Nog, am excited to see Overeem back and will be cheering like hell for Edgar to beat Aldo.

Kris P Lettus 02-01-2013 03:24 PM

I like Aldo and think he is a beast but I just think after the two Bendo losses, Frankie is due..

Next Big Thing 02-01-2013 03:35 PM

I can't help but feel like Overeem is doing nothing more than punching his ticket to the slaughterhouse. If Cain pressures Overeem like he did JDS it's going to be a quick TKO. He doesn't have the chin or heart that JDS does.

At the very least, he won the second fight.

Kris P Lettus 02-01-2013 05:53 PM

Bout to watch the coutdown and weigh-ins..

Yesterdays presser isn't online yet just the Dana White scrum from afterwards..

CSL 02-01-2013 06:04 PM

honestly prefer the media scrums to most other things outside of the fights, don't watch the vlogs, rarely watch pressers, sometimes watch weigh-ins, always check out the media scrums

Kris P Lettus 02-01-2013 06:19 PM

I watch it all..

:$

Next Big Thing 02-01-2013 06:50 PM

I like the press conferences. The Countdowns are pretty stale.
