What's a good gaming system?
I am thinking of getting with the times and buying a new system. The last one I had was Playstation 2 - That was eleven years ago.
I know nothing about modern video games or systems. Can anyone recommend a good one? I am thinking Playstation 3, but I've waited so long to get one I am suspecting a PS4 will be out soon. Should I just wait for PS4? |
It really depends what times of games you play, what else you will be using it for (bluray), and whether you want to pay for online gaming.
What kind of games do / did you enjoy? I've had a PS3 for 3 years and I'm still pretty thrilled with it, seeing as it's my main entertainment platform for games, bluray movies as well as the ease of downloading video on my laptop and just dropping the files onto a USB stick to play on the PS3. I bought an Xbox 360 but sold it after 6 months due to lack of use, but it's cheaper and if you don't care about bluray and don't mind paying to play online, it's more cost efficient for a more casual gamer. |
I will probably go with the PS3 so I can use it as a blu-ray too.

My Ps3 is primarily a blu ray player.
Do you care about exclusives? Because that's one of the few things that really makes a difference. Microsoft has Halo and Gears of War and...Ummm...Halo, and Sony tends to have more. In fact, I think Sony would be my primary console of my friends didn't all have 360s. |

Edit: Also, the feature I probably use the most on my XBox is Netflix streaming. It is on PS3 and Wii too. It's $8/month and awesome. I might go weeks without watching it, but then go on a Netflix binge and make the $8 a hell of a deal. |

I have both. I play my 360 a great deal more, but I do like them for reasons independent of one another. |
I would also suggest the Sega Dreamcast. Sick system.
|
New systems are out this time next year, get a DS to tide you over till then.

ZING! But yeah, friends aside, I think the PS3's probably the better overall console. Both have their pros and cons.... It's weird endorsing the one I play least, though. |

I also wonder if the new Sony and Microsoft consoles would just cost an absurd amount of money at launch.
|
I read November, wanna say OXM but not sure if its been confirmed.
|
I'd place a very LARGE wager on new consoles not being released by this time next year. Nothing has shown up in regards to the next gen systems for the public, and generally these things have a large lead time. They're basically done a year in advance so developers can have content ready by launch time, and we heard nothing this year at E3.
|
I'd go for the PS3 despite it being more it's worth it probably will have more longevity than it's Xbox counterpart no point in getting ripped off for the next gen console of you're willing to wait.
|
Let's keep in mind that Zeeboe is poor. +1 point for a used Xbox 360.
|
Get a used 360, make sure it has a HDD, get an XBL account (free with new 360s), get a game and run wild.
Unless you want a blu ray player, in which case PS3 is a cheap way to do it. |

It would also be nice to own a blu-ray player that does the firmware updates on it's own. I had to do it myself with my current player. Once I figured out how to do it, it was simple enough, but staying up to date without me having to do anything sounds nice. :) |
Netflix is available on both.
|
The issue I have with Netflix on the 360 is the helaciously long and random pause at 97%. Sometimes seems to take more than a minute, unless I exit out then try again. Sometimes it helps, sometimes not. It's gotta be the 360 version of that app, as I haven't heard of these issues on the PS3 version.
