College Hoops 2012-2013 Season

Season starts today and this year ends up being one of those rare instances where the early tournaments don't take place a week or so before everyone else plays.

ClockShot 11-09-2012 07:51 PM

Come Ollie, bring my boys home from Germany with a win. This is huge for us.

ClockShot 11-09-2012 07:58 PM

Side note: The camo unis MSU and UCONN are sporting right now are nice. Wish they could wear them the whole season.

Droford 11-09-2012 09:27 PM

Maryland is embarrassing..guessing I can just ignore terps b-ball like I do their football again this year

Droford 11-09-2012 10:14 PM

Reverse jinx? Pretty good 15-0 run to tie and now they have the lead.

Supreme Olajuwon 11-10-2012 06:12 PM

A-10 preparing to make an offer to the 7 basketball-only schools in the Big East to join them instead of the Big East raiding the A-10 after Temple and Charlotte leave this season. Would end up with 20-21 teams if it does occur.

Big East is rumored to be targeting mostly the big name A-10 schools in order to replace the basketball only and football/basketball schools that are leaving.

Yep, they're leaving. LOL Big East. Free UConn.

ClockShot 12-13-2012 09:19 PM

UConn is fucked. Kinda hoping either someone picks up the phone and gets them out, or they somehow drop the football program and just go everything else. I know the latter is near impossible, but it took a step back when Edsall bailed.

Evil Vito 12-14-2012 10:39 AM

The Big East aren't going to let UConn leave. They're basically all that's left.

They can go independent, but then they'd have to try to get an at-large bid to the tourney every year.

ClockShot 12-29-2012 04:31 PM

UConn gave Kevin Ollie a 5-year deal.

Too soon to make a judgement if you ask me.

McLegend 12-29-2012 05:13 PM

Santa Clara played really Duke well for 24 minutes.

Emperor Smeat 02-01-2013 08:04 PM

ACC once again tried to court MSG and Brooklyn's Barclays Center to become their host for future ACC tournament games starting in 2016 but neither were interested. ACC is looking for a 5-year deal for its new host once they move out of Greensboro.

Most likely whichever conference has St Johns will also get MSG considering the historical ties both have together. It was also a huge reason why the Big East had MSG since it formed.

ClockShot 02-14-2013 06:47 AM

Good riddance, Syracuse.

The Condor 02-15-2013 08:45 PM

How are the Demon Deacons doing this year? Too lazy to look it up

Emperor Smeat 02-15-2013 08:53 PM

11-13 overall, 4-8 in the ACC (9th).

The Condor 02-15-2013 11:02 PM

Shit, that's a bummer. Thanks

Droford 02-16-2013 06:20 PM

Kinda sad this is the last duke game at maryland

Big East and ESPN agreed to a new tv deal although it ends up being a huge loss to what the Big East could have had 2 years ago. CBS also agreed to extend their basketball deal although it only pays out $2 million per year.

Quote:

The Big East Conference confirmed Saturday that ESPN has matched a media rights deal offer, keeping the network as the league's primary rights holder.

The deal is for seven years and worth $130 million through the 2019-20 school year, league sources said. The Big East's new deal is worth less per school than its current ESPN deal and six times less than what ESPN presented two years ago.
Quote:

In the past two years since the Big East turned down ESPN's $1.17 billion offer, the league has had 16 schools either leave or announce they were leaving.

The Big East's new deal is comparable to a new media rights deal the Mountain West signed with CBS Sports Network. Both, however, are substantially less than what the power five conferences -- Big Ten, Pac-12, SEC, Big 12 and ACC -- receive.

I'm a UVa guy, and don't think Miami is all that good. They've been fortunate to stay healthy while all the other good teams in the ACC have dealt with injury (particularly NC State and Duke, I really don't think UNC is that good, either).

I'd say right now Miami is the #4 team in the ACC, if I had a Power Rankings and all teams get the pieces back that they should.

1) NC State (Lorenzo Brown, CJ Leslie have been hurt/sick - but when they're on, forget it. This team will run deep into the tournament)
2) Duke (Ryan Kelly out has hurt a lot. He's back, this team is #2 in the ACC)
3) UVa (Don't sleep on the Cavs. They have had all but 2 of their bigs hurt this year, and both Mike Tobey and Darion Atkins are improving in health each week. They're going to be a tough out in March)
4) Miami (Meh. Don't love them).

The Condor 02-27-2013 07:10 PM

That's a fair list. Where do you see the Demon Deacs? #8-9?

DaveBrawl 02-27-2013 10:36 PM

VT just got curbstomped by Miami.:'(

Emperor Smeat 02-28-2013 08:26 PM

The "Catholic 7" schools from the Big East won the rights to keep the conference name once they officially split next season while the current Big East is changing their name. They also managed to get Butler, Xavier, and maybe Creighton to join the new league starting next season. The new league would be carried mainly by Fox Sports Network.

Good call, as they just beat the Blue Devils

DAMN iNATOR 03-04-2013 04:25 PM

That MSU @ U-M game was crazy yesterday.

Emperor Smeat 03-07-2013 03:19 PM

The current Big East is leaning towards "America 12 Conference" as their new name before this year's college football season.

The Catholic 7 from the Big East get to keep the "Big East" name once they leave in June.

The Condor 03-17-2013 11:47 AM

Zags are going to win it all

Frank Drebin 03-17-2013 12:07 PM

The Valley is gonna lose Creighton. :(

Frank Drebin 03-17-2013 12:07 PM

Is anyone going to put together a TPWW bracket through yahoo or somethin'?

Emperor Smeat 03-17-2013 06:10 PM

Louisville (Midwest) earned the overall #1 seed. Their bracket has Oregon, OK State, St Louis, Duke, Creighton, and Michigan State for the tough/big names.

Kansas (South) got a #1 seed. Their bracket has UNC, Villanova, VCU, Michigan, Georgetown, Florida, and ULCA for tough/big names.

Indiana (East) also got a #1 seed and only one not to have won their conference tourney. Their bracket has Temple, Syracuse, Miami U, Marquette, and Butler for tough/big names.

Gonzaga (West) took the final #1 seed. Their bracket has Pitt, Wisconsin, Kansas State, Ohio State, and New Mexico for touch/big names.

Defending champion Kentucky didn't get included into the tournament.

ClockShot 03-17-2013 07:49 PM

UConn men are too stupid to get included in the tourney. Literally.

OssMan 03-17-2013 08:07 PM

Go NC State, go Georgetown, go VCU, go Oregon, go JMU in the fucking play in game

Boo Duke, boo UNC, boo Michigan State, boo Indiana

Droford 03-18-2013 01:30 PM

Boo no terps or terriers.

Droford 03-18-2013 01:50 PM

This year I'm going to fully support the Wichita St shockers
