in these times of low ratings and attendances is it not time that one of the big four ppv's was held in the uk it would easily be one of there biggest houses in recent memory

You'll get the..over the limit ppv and like it

and it would get a 70000+ attendance easily

Are attendances even an issue right now?

No, WrestleMania already made like 10 million dollars over the weekend in ticket sales with 50,000 already sold.

SummerSlam 1992 got a 1.5 buyrate, but the year before that got 2.7. Pretty good reason never to do a PPV in England again and that was before the before mentioned problems above.

But it would be a packed house!

WWE officials visited Wembley, Old Trafford and the Millennium Stadium last week. I think Summerslam over here would be huge. The only problem as we all know is the time zone issue. I'm sure they're currently crunching the numbers to figure out if they can offset potential losses from buyrates for a taped PPV airing in the US by selling out 75,000+ seats at extortionate prices, with increased merchandise revenue, Axxess tickets, UK sponsorships, etc. A PPV like Summerslam in Cardiff would be fucking amazing:

In all honesty so long as the show is billed as live then the casual folk that would normally purchase a PPV would be non the wiser, and hardcore fans would probably tend to still watch it regardless. Obviously there would be a reduction in PPV sales but probably not as much as people think. And like I said WWE will make a killing on other things by doing it so there's no way they would make a loss. As an example, a tshirt that WWE would sell at a house show in the US for $25 sell for £25 here. And tickets are always a lot pricier over here due to the exchange rate. For a PPV they could charge what they like, people from all over Europe would flock to the UK for this.

That doesn't really matter for a one off event. The NFL sell 90,000 tickets every year and WWE is way more popular.

I batted both eyelids when I found out.

Would it be that hard to air live, but just air it earlier than normal and did it on a Saturday? If they aired it at 5pm EST, it'd be 10pm in London. I don't think you'd lose tickets because a show ends at 1am. Perhaps do a 1hr tape delay so the show starts in London at 9pm and begins airing in the U.S. at 6pm EST?

Predictable response. But the fact that it was Smackdown was not the point. The point is, does your average casual family that orders the odd big PPV really pay any attention or care as to whether a show is live or on a tape delay? I would say no. In fact a huge PPV in a UK stadium would generate some more interest to want to buy if anything as it would have that Wrestlemania feel to it.

It's kind of the point, since a lack of interest in the product would influence the attention between live and pre-recorded. Of course, that Smackdown was down in the ratings for some reason. Am I saying it was specifically because it wasn't live? Well...No. But it's quite likely the mainstream is far more aware than you'd like to believe.

Traditionally, taped versions of Raw do lower than live versions, even if broadcast as "live." The one major example of a PPV given here suffered a drop in buyrate pre-internet spoilers. None of this is new information, really.

If by, "in fact," you mean "not in fact at all, but rather impotent speculation." Yeah, certainly.

If you mean "I really really want it to be true despite no evidence, because it would be convenient for it to be true," definitely.
