Chris Weidman out of UFC 155 bout
Updated: November 21, 2012, 5:11 PM ET
By Franklin McNeil | ESPN.com

Middleweight contender Chris Weidman suffered a right shoulder injury during a training session and will not fight Tim Boetsch on Dec. 29.

Weidman, who confirmed the injury Wednesday, was scheduled to face Boetsch at UFC 155 in Las Vegas. Boetsch will now fight Constantinos Philippou on the card.

Newsday.com reported Weidman's injury earlier.

"I hit a double-leg and landed weird and hard on my shoulder, and it popped," Weidman told ESPN.com. "I had an MRI on it. I tore my labrum, and I could have a separation. There could be some other things, but we haven't heard back from the doctor. The radiologist told us all that much so far.

"It looks like I'm going to need surgery. It's my right shoulder."

The injury could not have come at a worse time for Weidman. Three weeks ago his home on Long Island was damaged by Hurricane Sandy. He's been on an emotional roller coaster the past few weeks, he said.

"I go up and down from being depressed about it to being optimistic," Weidman said, "with Hurricane Sandy happening, then this. The good thing is I get to focus on my family throughout the holidays. The bad thing is that I'm going to have to have surgery and miss on the fight of my life.

"The one thing I did not want to happen, and was scaring me this whole camp, was for me to get hurt. I need the money with everything that went on with Hurricane Sandy. That (money) was going to be used when I got that fight right at the end of the year."

Weidman, who is ranked second by ESPN.com among 185-pound fighters, has a professional record of 9-0. His name is constantly mentioned as the man likely to get a title shot against middleweight champion Anderson Silva. Silva, however, is expected to face welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre in a non-title superfight that is being targeted for May.

Weidman cemented himself as the consensus top middleweight contender on June 11 with a second-round knockout of Mark Munoz. The only other middleweight contender being mentioned for a title shot is Michael Bisping.

Despite this recent setback, Weidman remains confident that he will become champion someday.

"I'm going to make the best of it, and hopefully it will be a blessing in disguise," Weidman said. "One way or another, I'm going to get that belt."
Munoz??

MoFo 11-23-2012 09:49 PM

Costa Phillipou already replaced him bruh...

btw anyone whos into betting, Alan Belcher is evens to beat Okami here, fucking buying money

Kris P Lettus 11-23-2012 09:55 PM

I love Belchar..

Kris P Lettus 11-24-2012 01:25 PM

Dunno how I missed the part about Phillipou..

Heyman 11-25-2012 07:07 AM

I agree with Kris P Lettus that Cain will go over JDS.

I think JDS is a slightly better fighter than Cain, but Cain will be way more determined this time around......and will defeat JDS out of sheer will.

The Mask 11-30-2012 05:00 AM

I'm going jds. The way he fights doesn't leave many openings for Cain.

Kris P Lettus 12-19-2012 09:23 PM

JDS said that he thinks Bigfoot will beat Overeem.. He also said that he respects Cain cause they (JDS and Cain) are both made in the gym, while Overeem was made in a lab..

Pretty much talking shit to him about failing that T:E test..

Kris P Lettus 12-19-2012 09:31 PM

Here is the updated card:

Main Card
Dos Santos vs Velasquez
Miller vs Lauzon
Boetsch vs Philippou
Okami vs Belcher
Leben vs Brunson

Prelims
Pickett vs Wineland
Perez vs Bloodworth
Guillard vs Varner
Johnson vs Jury
De Fries vs Duffee
Cariaso vs Moraga

Kris P Lettus 12-19-2012 09:33 PM

Cain
J-Lo
Boetsch
Belchar
Leban

RP 12-25-2012 01:12 PM

I enjoy watching is Guilard can ever get off a prelim card or not. lol

RP 12-25-2012 01:13 PM

I'm ordering this btw. I think Cain is going to crush this dude. I really thing he didnt realize what he was getting into the first fight and now he knows and he'll be smarter and tougher and JDS will fall hard.

Next Big Thing 12-25-2012 03:44 PM

Cain vs. JDS is probably the most intriguing match up this year because it really feels like it could go either way. Really looking forward to it. I'm lukewarm on the rest of the card though.

Kris P Lettus 12-25-2012 06:38 PM

How??

Miller/J-Lau and Belchar/Okami will both be good..

Next Big Thing 12-26-2012 07:02 PM

I might pay for one of those HD streams for Lauzon/Miller and the HW fight. Belcher/Okami doesn't do it for me. Yeah I know Belcher gets KOs, but I'm not interested in seeing him fight Okami. Tim Boetsch does nothing for me, even though Philippou might make it a good scrap.

It's not a bad card by any means, it's just not a card I'd pay $60 for.

Crimson 12-26-2012 07:19 PM

Yeah besides the main event nothing to get excited about. Doesn't mean it won't be good

chrisjerichofan86 12-26-2012 07:59 PM

Hey guys, I am not an athlete and I also am too scared to take a punch so my buddies and myself wrestle in my mom's backyard to compensate..

Maybe one day I will be invovled in a real sport and then my mom will not get mad at me for denting her cookie sheets..

p.s. I love penis..

Kris P Lettus 12-28-2012 08:34 PM

Goldy will miss this event, Anik will do play by play.. Kinda looking forward to how Rogan and Anik work together..

Next Big Thing 12-28-2012 08:42 PM

I'm not gonna miss Goldie repeating the same damn random facts every round at the most awkward times during the fight. Hopefully Anik and Rogan mesh well enough for him to take Goldberg's place whenever his contract is up.

Kris P Lettus 12-28-2012 09:07 PM

"he has the thighs of an NFL running back"

MoFo 12-28-2012 09:44 PM

They should have Krazy Horse and Rampage commentate like the old King of the Cage events :D

Kris P Lettus 12-28-2012 09:51 PM

Rampage, Krazy Horse and Bas Rutten..

:y:

Kris P Lettus 12-28-2012 09:52 PM

And Matt Hamill..

There's something about UFC heavyweight fights that get me hyped every time. Can't wait for this.

BTW, my dream commentary team would be a three man booth consisting of Mauro Ranallo, Rogan and Pat Miletich/Chael Sonnen. I'm used to Pat on the SF cards, but I really like Chael on FX/Fuel prelims when he's not doing his gimmick.

Kris P Lettus 12-29-2012 10:51 AM

h8 Militiech

Kris P Lettus 12-29-2012 10:52 AM

I would say Renallo, Rogan, and Couture..

Stickman 12-29-2012 01:22 PM

I think JDS wins in similar fashion to fight 1

Me too, I'm guessing its because the usually end with a stoppage

Next Big Thing 12-29-2012 07:36 PM

Not a bad batch of Facebook prelim fights. Leonard Garcia vs. Max Holloway should be a good scrap as should Todd Duffee vs. Phil DeFries.

Next Big Thing 12-29-2012 08:24 PM

Leonard Garcia got screwed.

Kris P Lettus 12-29-2012 08:49 PM

what happened

bad decision??

Kris P Lettus 12-29-2012 08:50 PM

I'm pumped for Guilliard/Varner.. Melvin went all gangster yesterday at the weigh-ins..

Next Big Thing 12-29-2012 08:57 PM

There's nothing gangster about trying talking shit at a weigh-in wearing Captain America socks and tight underwear with your junk hanging out. I like Guillard as a fighter, but dude is an immature jackass.

I just though Garcia dictated the pace and terms of the fight and won at least two of the three rounds. Sucks that he lost too since I think that's his fourth straight.

He always rocks the underoo's Shonnie Carter style.. Plus he has hella animosity after the first figh was canceled..

Kris P Lettus 12-29-2012 09:07 PM

Was the fight exciting?? If so Garcia's job is safe..
