Curiosity- Any MSTies?
I grew up loving the cult show Mystery Science Theater 3000, and a group of freinds and I go to the theater Fathom events that they put on under their new moniker, Rifftrax, which they do online to all kinds of movies. I try explaining it to people but they look at me sideways, can't wrap their heads around the concept I suppose. Anyone else on here fans of the greatest cult show ever?

I fucking love MST3K
|
I haven't seen it in a long, long, long time, but I remember liking what I saw.
|
MST3K isn't just one of my favorite shows ever, it's one of my favorite anythings of any kind ever.
I saw the RiffTrax of "Birdemic: Shock and Terror" a while ago. And it was fucking beautiful. |
The Final Sacrifice :D

Soooooooooooo not funny at all.
|
Gertner, you're Canadian, is Rowsdower as big a hit there as it has become in America?
|
I'm Canadian. No, he hasn't but I'd say he has a cult following.
|
As it should be, the man needs some sort of following.

I've been around kid.
I've been a square kid too. |
The Room
I know men. "I used to be one" |
Personally, I'm a Mike guy moreso than a Joel guy. I like the angry/caustic style of Mike and Bill Corbett more than the whimsical style or Joel.

I just seems like it usually depends on your age and/or region on who you like better. If you were in Minnesota area from jump or got in on the ground floor of their cable TV venture, you are likely a Joel fan. I actually didn't become a true fan of the show until Mike, so Mike was all I really knew.
I actually had first seen a Joel episode, but that was somewhere around their Comedy Channel run (while Comedy Channel and HA! were seperate stations) in a timeslot and channel I couldn't be assed to remember as a kid. I remember thinking it was funny, and remembered the theatre sihlouettes later in life and vaugely remembering what Crow and Servo looked like from that one movie. Didn't even remember what movie they were riffing. Really didn't even remember Joel. That was info I got later actually being able to do research and learn more about the entire thing. Looking back now, Joel had that "stoner charm" about him. I'm still more used to Mike, but I don't dislike Joel. |
I don't dislike him either but I feel I was exposed to Mike earlier, and his style. I saw the movie and some Comedy Channel stuff with my dad early but didn't really remember too much. One night I was about 10 or 11 and the episode featuring Joe Estevez and a Werewolf came on and from then forward I was hooked. I watched the Joel stuff later, and it's good, but Mike's style is my style moreso.
|
I first started watching the show during Joel's last couple of seasons, but I was very little at the time and my sense of humor hadn't really developed yet. I knew that it was a guy and a couple of robots making fun of bad movies, and that was gold to me. I actually didn't like Mike for a long time, basically because I was used to Joel and he wasn't Joel, but over time I started to prefer Mike.
And while I liked Trace Belleau just fine, Bill Corbett was easily the better Crow. The show I think really hit its high point during the Sci-Fi Channel seasons, with Mike and Bill and Kevin, and Pearl, Bobo, and Brain Guy as the villains (though I'll always have a soft spot for Dr. Forester and TV's Frank) |
The SciFi seasons probably were the best. Awful fucking movies.
|
Oddly enough, I had seen a couple of the movies before. I remember "Final Justice" being on TV at some point in my youth.
I also saw "Quest of the Delta Knights" back when I was in elementary school, since we used to have a "movie of the month" shown in our auditorium. It was also where I first saw that version of the Little Mermaid where she "dies" (turns into sea foam or whatever) at the end. On the other hand, they also showed awesome shit, like "Neverending Story" and "Return to Oz". |
Return to Oz was a trip when I was younger
|
"Return to Oz" is a trip now!
Forgot Fairuza Baulk was Dorothy until I saw it again recently. A sign of things to come for her acting career. |
Hell yeah. I loved MST3K.
