Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

An incredible trailer shown off from a completely unknown studio in MolbyDick Game Studios who have a website based in Sweden... MGS?

OK, that would be tenuous, but they're coming up with other links left and right.

Alright, getting closer. What else you got for me, Internet?

MolbyDick Studios was founded by CEO Joakim Mogren, where Joakim is an anagram for Kojima.

- Continued play on "phantom", where "Two Phantoms were born" stands as the tagline for Ground Zeroes' first concept material.
- Volgin lookalike wreathed in flames.
- Hallucinating petals straight from MGS3's climax.
- Floating figure with audible breaths muffled by mask, ala Psycho Mantis.
- That fucking mullet.

Then finally, we have this. 2 guys from Konamis VIP area at the VGA after-party

I'm pretty convinced. I was blown away by the trailer which is 100% gameplay and coming for 360/PS3... The trailer was blatantly PC though.

EDIT: The grey haired guy is designer of title sequences who worked previously on MGS2 & 3 and the founder of Prologue films.

Kalyx triaD 12-08-2012 02:22 AM

This is totally MGS5 holy shit. Looks even better than the Ground Zeroes demo months ago.

Kalyx triaD 12-08-2012 02:23 AM

With Ground Zeroes coming, I think this may be next-gen.

#BROKEN Hasney 12-08-2012 02:26 AM

Not sure. http://www.mobydickstudio.se/en has it listed as 360/PS3.

Kalyx triaD 12-08-2012 02:41 AM

It's also a blatantly obvious 'sock' for Konami, their words are LIES.

Fignuts 12-08-2012 05:02 AM

Where is this trailer?

Kojimas trolling going into overdrive now. I love it.

Which part was trolling, exactly?

This looks closer to ARG territory, from what I see.

(for the slow: I'm not saying it's an ARG, just closer to what I'd expect than 'trolling.')

#BROKEN Hasney 03-15-2013 12:47 PM

I thought it was more trolling because there's no actual participation from people that I would expect in an ARG.

But I'll just post a topic now that might make you slightly happier, KK...

Kane Knight 03-15-2013 01:34 PM

Unless it's Volition suddenly all falling on their swords....

Kane Knight 03-15-2013 07:03 PM

To be honest, this probably interests me more. I'm sure that, it being Metal Gear, I won't really like it. But it's interesting, no less.

#BROKEN Hasney 03-27-2013 02:09 PM

It's officially the subtitle for MGSV now.

Starts off as an on-rail tutorial when Snake wakes up after a 9 year coma, but it's an open-world game.

I'll try and find the trailer later, was awesome. Everything allegedly real-time and running on PC right now.

#BROKEN Hasney 03-27-2013 02:15 PM

Hayter isn't the voice of Snake :'(

RoXer 03-27-2013 02:44 PM

yeah right

RoXer 03-27-2013 02:44 PM

that'll be the day

#BROKEN Hasney 03-27-2013 02:46 PM

Well he wasn't in the demo. It could be another way to try and fuck with us though.

Ground Zeroes is also V. Might need a merge.

dronepool 03-27-2013 04:45 PM

take my money.

Yeup and it turns out the reason they were separate projects was to prevent the announcement of MGS 5 from being leaked too early.

Quote:

According to Kojima, the scenes featured in the Ground Zeroes trailer and the scenes from Phantom Pain trailer originate from Metal Gear Solid 5.

Story details are scarce so far, but what we know is that the fifth Metal Gear Solid installment sees Snake in a coma for nine years before waking up in a hospital—presumably the one featured in The Phantom Pain footage.

To recap, there is no Phantom Pain, no Ground Zeroes–both these misleads were vehicles for MGS5 footage. The game’s full title will be Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain.

So is this set before 4? Because Snake was old as fuck in that. I did finish 4, and it pretty much wrapped it up as Snake living on the rest of his life, from what I remember.

Kalyx triaD 03-27-2013 05:50 PM

Yesh. Yesh.

You forget though: NANOMACHINES, SON.

Nah, I think this is a Big Boss Snake one judging by Outer Shell and the kid in the cell on the Ground Zeros trailer who's name I forget. Chico?

Kalyx triaD 03-27-2013 06:28 PM

Like Mega Man/Mega Man X, the big connecting event begin the major MGS timelines was never presented. This could be it.

Ultra Mantis 03-27-2013 06:36 PM

It's Big Boss for sure. You can see Master Miller wounded in the bed behind him. Also it looks like he's getting mindraped by a young Psycho Mantis and there's Horseback Ocelot galloping around all alive and well.

There was nothing in the trailer to suggest that. The voice at the end could be another character speaking. Unless I'm missing something.

Kalyx triaD 03-27-2013 07:31 PM

The gameplay footage also has another voice for Snake, but I'm still not buying it.

Hayter himself has confirmed he's not voicing Snake. Given that this character is Naked Snake / Big Boss though...

Evidentally, he actually tweeted that it had been a nice run. Granted, he could easily be in on it, but....

Big Boss. I haven't played an MGS since 2, and barely even then, and even I figured that one out.

#BROKEN Hasney 03-28-2013 12:07 PM

http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/27/da...-gear-solid-5/

The actual story isn't the interesting part, it's their update 2.

Quote:

Update 2: Contrary to what Kojima said during the GDC panel today, Konami has confirmed with Joystiq that Ground Zeroes and Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain are indeed separate games.
Now I just don't know.

EDIT:
Quote:

We got in touch with Boor again, this time asking if the two games will be part of the same package or on the same disc. He replied: “Can’t confirm at this time”.

ANOTHER EDIT:

http://www.edge-online.com/news/koji...e-development/

Sounds like Ground Zeroes might be like Case Zero for Dead Rising 2.

Ultra Mantis 03-28-2013 03:22 PM

From what Kojima has been saying on Twitter, Ground Zeroes is the basically the prologue "tanker chapter" and the Phantom Pain is the "plant chapter"/main story. If they are actually seperate games I would guess GZ is more along the lines of Peace Walker rather than being a cutscene heavy numbered title.

Boomer 03-28-2013 04:41 PM

If it's anything like Peace Walker, I want to play it. Just finished it a few weeks ago, and while it was pretty obvious at times that the bosses in that game were made to be played best in co-op, the game was still a ton of fun.

Hanso Amore 03-28-2013 04:48 PM

My take on it is it is Big Boss i nthe beginning, and he goes into a Coma for 9 years. During those 9 years Les Infants Terrible or whatever happens. Whatever led to the coma is probably more of the back story on why Outer Haven was made and why Big Boss went rogue.

Then later story with snake perhaps.

Hanso Amore 03-28-2013 04:49 PM

All the prequel games have made it hard as hell to fit stories together

Wasnt Master Miller Solid Snakes Mentor? Wouldnt that hint more at Snake?

Metal Gear Solid V is composed of two parts, titled Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain.[5] Ground Zeroes will take place approximately ten days after the events of Peace Walker,[citation needed] with The Phantom Pain following the events of Ground Zeroes after Big Boss falls into a nine year coma. The game will feature a new splinter organization known as "The Diamond Dogs", under the command of Big Boss and Miller, as they go against the mysterious organization only known as XOF.[6]
XOF? Fox? Foxhound. Weird.

And nevermind, all Big boss?

Miller is best buds / business partners with Big Boss in Peace Walker.

FOX vs XOF. They've already mentioned Fox and set up XOF as an ostensible rival.

Nice Bowie reference again. Diamond Dogs.
