I totally rocked that SNES Street Fighter Alpha 2 back in the day.

SlickyTrickyDamon 12-18-2012 01:32 AM

Animaniacs was a hell of a Genesis game. Really should have picked it up at the vintage video game store when I was there. :(

Tom Guycott 12-18-2012 02:51 AM

Damn. This was about the time I wasted money on the Game Gear. From this ad, I believe. :(

whiteyford 12-18-2012 11:42 AM

Fighting the urge to go looking for stuff on ebay now :-\

Triple Naitch 12-18-2012 02:19 PM

NBA Live 97 with Mitch Richmond.

ClockShot 12-18-2012 03:06 PM

I remember Super Battleship. Pretty fun, never got past that 1 mission when all I had were PT boats and the other side had like a battleship and 2 destroyers. :(

DAMN iNATOR 12-18-2012 03:11 PM

LOL, WOW. Sega was really desperate to move Saturn consoles back in the day, huh? 3 free games with a Saturn purchase ALONE?!

Also LOL'd @ them offering a Saturn “high-speed” modem with 1 month free access, wonder which games on it were actually online “compatible” for it in ’96, since that was really when the WWW was still very much in it’s infancy. And, LOL $200 for it. Yeah, what kid wouldn’t want that when they could’ve had a brand new Nintendo 64 (or a V8 :shifty: ) for the same price?

Razzamajazz 12-18-2012 10:56 PM

that weekend i rented a nintendo 64 from the video store was one of the happiest of my life

Kris P Lettus 12-19-2012 12:17 AM

I still have my Sega Saturn at my mom's with most of those games (the only games they ever made for it)..

Triple Naitch 12-19-2012 12:23 AM

Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis
When I was dead broke I could never picture this

Arashi Kage 12-19-2012 12:33 AM

Long live the SNES!!!! Although, the N64 era was a lot of fun with 4 player Mario Kart and Goldeneye.

Never seen that crazy analog joystick for the playstation before. [Keanu voice] Whoa! [/Keanu voice]

Kalyx triaD 12-19-2012 12:39 AM

I remember seeing, but I don't know what games it was for. Virtua On certainly didn't land on PS1.

Nicky Fives 12-19-2012 12:54 AM

only thing I ever had on those pages was a yellow gameboy.....

Pintint 12-19-2012 12:56 AM

I'm the only person I knew in real life who has a Saturn instead of a PSX.

Nowhere Man 12-19-2012 01:05 AM

I had a Saturn back in the day. I remember getting it specifically because I was a big fan of Sonic and really wanted to see what a 32-bit Sonic game would be like. I was sorely disappointed.

For all of its bad reputation, though, there were honestly some pretty awesome games on the Saturn. Nights was lots of fun, as was the first Need for Speed and Virtual On.

The only thing I had in that catalog at the time this catalog was released was Ultimate MK 3 for the SNES, probably one of the most expensive games I have ever bought, still have it even to this day.

Eklipse 12-19-2012 10:20 AM

I don't remember any SNES or Genesis game costing $69.99. Maybe it was just Toys R' Us.

drave 12-19-2012 10:51 AM

I remember saving my allowance to get Mortal Kombat on SNES. It was $60 at that time.

drave 12-19-2012 10:52 AM

And then being pissed that there was spit instead of blood and that every other violent piece of the game was taken out.

I WANNA RIP OUT SOME HEARTS DAMNIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, it may just be my foggy memory, but I can recall Toys R Us usually being more expensive when it came to video games.

I actually can't remember paying $50 or more for a game until I bought Lunar: Silver Star Story for Playstation back in '99.

When I worked at KB Toys around 2001, we got a couple of SNES titles in a random Repack box (read: shit they just throw into a box with little relation for you to try and sell that may be lumped in with supplies or a bit of marketing). We had a copy of Street Fighter Alpha 2. And it was still $69.99. We didn't even SELL the SNES anymore (they were in our system, but we didn't ever get any more), but if we did, the console was like $30, if that. As far as I know, that game was NEVER marked down and remained 70 bucks until the company went under. To put it in perspective, we had N64 games that were going for $9.99.

Also, I remember seeing a new copy of Chrono Trigger being 79.99 when it came out. I always wanted to play it, but $80 is a bit much to convince your parents to spend on one game sight unseen (was never available to rent).

Kalyx triaD 12-20-2012 02:57 AM

Perhaps it was rare?

Hell, aside from the Alpha Collection, Alpha 2 hasn't really returned to retail in a widespread way.

Or did it come to PSN, as Capcom fighters randomly tend to do?
