Schlomey's Wrestling Thread aka My Attempt To Legitimize The Wrestling Forums

For most of 2012 I have complained that the Wrestling Forum has gone down hill. So far down, in fact, that I have kept a running count of reasons why I should stop venturing into it at all.

Well now it is 2013 and Schlomey is no longer sitting back and letting those trampoline fedders and newbie "Cena should turn heel" assholes ruin this place for him.

Post in here if you are fed up with the lack of quality provided in the wrestling forums BUT be warned that you will be getting gunned down by my brothers in black if you post ridiculous tirades.

Next order of business: Who wants to join this new world organization? You think you have the right to wear the black bandanna? We will see.....

My first step in legitimizing the Wrestling Forums is to continue my video series, for those of you who can't read or don't know how to use YouTube, go shoot yourself...but first watch the links provided.

First up is jericho vs hhh, at the height of the alliance between McMahon and hhh and Austin we have an ic title grudge match. While short I found it entertaining and it's always a pleasure seeing the lionsault actually connect. And also seeing Stephanie in her hot per mommy phase. 6/10

Video #2 in my new video series comes to you from In Your House: Beware of Dog. Marc Mero vs HHH for the IC championship. I watched this match because I don't remember A single match Mero was in or if he was good. Turns out he is pretty good. Average sized and can pull off some high flying cruiser weight style maneuvers. However 12 of the 16 minutes of this match is HHH focusing on the arm of Mero. At one point he used the same arm bar that Del Rio uses today. The match wasn't booked well, in my opinion. Focusing more on Sable and ground attacks than allowing the Wildman to show off his skills. Mero does have awesome facials and can sell really well, it almost makes up for the fact that he is such a tool these days. 5/10.

The action was good but it reeked from the very beginning of screw job because there is no way the WWE would allow Taker to tap. Punk, as always, sold this match like a champ. I find it annoying that they used a great concept on a ppv world title match only to further a lame storyline. However, it did lead to the amazingly cheesy "buckle up Teddy" vignette. This match is as forgettable and as throw away as it sounds. 4/10.

Hogan wrestled a typical Hogan match minus one mark out moment when he delivered a Diamond Cutter of all things. The run ins confused me because I don't know the backstory but they were easily the only thing giving this match any emotion. 3/10.

This match came about when during the Royal Rumble, an eliminated Austin rejoined the match unbeknownst to the referees to eliminate the 3 other men. I'm shocked that this match isn't brought up here at TPWW. Fatal Four Way matches are always a mixed bag, very few live up to the hype. In this instance, it overdid all expectations. While I found that Vader can't sell for shit I still enjoyed this match like it was a Wrestlemania main event. Constant action, blood, elimination style combat where there were no rules. Ill put this match on the short list of FFW matches worth watching. 9/10.

Loved the LHW division in 2001, Jerry Lynn, Essa Rios, Jeff Hardy, Malenko, Crash Holly etc were tearing it up on Heat every week. On a par w/ the WCW cruisers in their prime IMO.

Schlomey 01-07-2013 11:15 AM

The LHW division in 2001 eludes me. I was "on break" from wrestling at the time. Slowly over the years I have caught matches from that period. Most of them had Kurt Angle or Chris Benoit in the main event role which I find unusual from where I had left off.

Malenko in WCW was easily top 5 all time favorite but I can't remember even 1 match he was in in WWE.

Maybe that is where I should go next on my list....

Dean vs. Scotty 2-Hotty Backlash 2000 easily his best WWF/E match.

Adding this now to watch later. The quality appears to be quite bad, however. Thank you.

2013 will be the year of intelligence, reasoning and understanding in the wrestling forum.

With my brothers at my side there will be no trampoline federation large enough to stop us.

Down with trampolines!

Then back up again.

Consider Bobby Jaggers the dark match to a much more important concept main event.

Hey, does anybody think the WWE should cut out the kiddie crap and go back to PG-13 and end this PG garbage.

I know you are just being Gertner but I will swerve this into an actual conversation.

My wife who is NOT a wrestling fan but does watch with me on occasion to appease me had a conversation while watching some wrestling the other night.

First we watched a few CM Punk matches from his Blu Ray. No issue.
Then we watched a Royal Rumble from the Attitude Era. Some sexual references and a lot of language.
She got really confused by that.

We both came to the conclusion that cussing and excess blood does NOT help nor make wrestling better. It has it's place and can enhance matches on occasion but over saturation of anything dulls the product. I found myself getting embarrassed by the language and perverse nature of the Attitude Era product. It was awesome when potty words were cool when I was a teenager but now I find it crass and totally unnecessary.

Lack of blood and language has, in some ways, helped the product become MORE mainstream but more importantly makes the wrestlers work harder to tell a great story.

Everyone will have an opinion on the matter I just wanted to share a persons point of view that has not been tainted by years of fandom and more importantly years of being a jaded message board attendee.

Bad News Gertner 01-07-2013 06:48 PM

New topic. Do you prefer wrestling or rasslin?

Schlomey 01-07-2013 06:55 PM

Define rasslin

Been saying that for years. I don't miss blood and foul language, really.

I just miss engaging plots and wrestlers I gave a shit about.

punk is a whiny bitch

Punk draws me in. Since I'm not an analyst I'd say that's good enough.

Supreme Olajuwon 01-07-2013 07:35 PM

Remember when the Godfather went away for a while and then came back and the announcers were like "Godfather opened his own escort service. He's gone legitimate!" like that was somehow an extra layer to his character.

Your thread title reminded me of that.

Schlomey 01-07-2013 07:36 PM

As for a Cena heel turn: if it happens it happens. He will never wrestle the style that I really enjoy on more than a casual basis so it really wouldn't change how I view his work.

Supreme Olajuwon 01-07-2013 07:37 PM

Also, how bout the effin Godfather man? Brother never wrestled a 3 star match in his life but always found a way to get work and get pushed.

The man committed. Whether it was a voodoo priest, an MMA fighter, a black militant, a pimp, a reformed pimp, or an unreformed pimp, Charles Wright sold his character. Whatever he was doing, you believed it.
