WWE Games License Headed to Take Two (2K)!!

Quote:

The era of THQ wrestling games is over. Sources have indicated to IGN that the WWE game franchise will be sold to Take Two, parent company of 2K. Terms of the sale are unknown at this time, as details have not been finalized. These negotiations appear to have taken place outside THQ's formal auction process.
HOLY FUCK

Well it's not EA, but it's pretty close to being EA. Will 2ksports be handling it?

Evil Vito 01-23-2013 06:50 PM

All I can think about is he much I hate the MLB 2k series. I may have played my last WWE game.

Evil Vito 01-23-2013 06:52 PM

Then again NFL 2k5 ruled.

As long as we finally get a new engine.

Triple Naitch 01-23-2013 06:58 PM

NBA 2k is pretty great. Hopefully it's more basketball than baseball.

Cool King 01-23-2013 07:01 PM

I've never played a 2K Sports game, so I don't know what to expect.

Kane Knight 01-23-2013 07:07 PM

Not being THQ is a start.

SlickyTrickyDamon 01-23-2013 07:20 PM

Now it all depends if they hire the former THQ guys or decide for a fresh start. We may or may not have a game this year.

The Rogerer 01-23-2013 07:27 PM

It is a rumours

RoXer 01-23-2013 07:38 PM

I really doubt there will be a WWE game this calendar year.

I doubt we're seeing a WWE game this year, period.

It's probably better if we don't.

RoXer 01-23-2013 07:43 PM

samesies!

dronepool 01-23-2013 07:56 PM

Maybe the physics can finally improve.

Kane Knight 01-23-2013 07:57 PM

That would imply THQ WWE games had physics.

Tommy Gunn 01-24-2013 06:52 AM

I'm happy if it's a new game built from the ground up, every year I feel like a bit of shame for buying the same game again with small updates to it. THQ / Yukes can fuck off for holding back so much from Universe Mode each year just so they can add it to the next one, etc etc.

whiteyford 01-24-2013 07:25 AM

Pretty much what Tommy Gunn said, you can almost spot what they're taking out each year to hype for the following years release, plus the TNAesque 'biggest roster ever' but really it's just 3 or 4 versions of 5 guys. It gets brought up in the threads every year but they've needed to skip a year to overhaul everything for a while, a new company would have to do that anyways, plus we might finally get new commentary.

James Steele 01-24-2013 08:54 AM

Does WWE have to approve all of this before they can even go forward? THQ owed them a bunch of money and were possibly in breech of contract which means THQ didn't have the right to sell the license?

Xero 01-24-2013 09:55 AM

Is it only the license or do they acquire the engine as well?

If they acquire the engine, this could suck.

If they don't, they'll probably do a year hiatus to actually get the game finished from the ground up.

#BROKEN Hasney 01-24-2013 10:03 AM

THQ don't own Yukes so it would be up to the license holder to work with them if they want or not. Because the WWE part isn't confirmed, it's unsure if the buyer actually bought the US team that did work on the games too or not.

Kalyx triaD 01-24-2013 01:27 PM

If they let Yukes do WWE 14 it will be a proper send off, or maybe they will kick ass next year and be allowed to remain on the series. It is also the only way we'd get a game soon. They usually work off previous assets which is the best way to do a yearly game anyway.

If 2K handles the next game it will not come out next year as they would start from scratch and need a two year dev cycle to build something I imagine would be yearly after that. Of course they could just start their reboot game and let Yukes do a final game anyway, giving them time to finish it while giving Yukes a last hurrah.

If 2K do have it and they want to do something original with it, I wouldn't be shocked if they do WWE 2k14 with Yukes and the current US team if they can considering they've probably already started work on it. Then I assume they'll do what they want to do with the license on next-gen consoles and HOPEFULLY PC too.

Could imagine the modding possibilities on PC. Hell, Raw and Nitro were modded to hell and back and they weren't even good games.

Kane Knight 01-24-2013 01:43 PM

Too bad a lot of their previous assets suck by this point.

#BROKEN Hasney 01-24-2013 01:45 PM

I'd even say "a lot" was being generous.

Kane Knight 01-24-2013 02:17 PM

I would say "all," but I'm in a giving mood today.

The 1 degree (That's Celsius for the benefit of you backwards...Rest of the worlders) weather has frozen the "dick" part of my brain.

Think one of the possible terms for the auction was whoever bought the series also took the debt.

Most likely Yukes will have some role in the next game due to their experience and supposedly the WWE really likes them. After that either Take Two uses one of their own studios or probably buys out Yukes as well.

drave 01-24-2013 03:54 PM

Whoever the hell takes it over needs to do MOAR FACIAL SCANNING!

Seriously, it seems worse in 13 than previous years.
