Survivor Series 1999 question

Was Austin unable to wrestle one last match before having neck surgery? If so why was the triple threat match between him, Rock and HHH still advertised all the way till halfway through the show when Austin was hit by that car?

Keith 02-01-2013 10:11 AM

Because that's what happened, man. Austin was going to wrestle, but he was hit by that car, which obviously put him out of action.

It was done for The Rock.

Savio 02-01-2013 10:32 AM

WWE wanted the money...too bad, a triple threat with the three of them would have been a great match even by Bret Hart's standards.

Keith 02-01-2013 10:40 AM

I don't know, Bret wouldn't have been too impressed by Triple H's performance in that triple threat.

Nicky Fives 02-01-2013 11:36 AM

That Triple Threat could still happen.....

mike adamle 02-01-2013 06:07 PM

Doubt it

Tazz Dan 02-01-2013 06:11 PM

Why was it still advertised until then? Because that's the way they decided to book around his injury and have him off the road while he had surgery and recovered. Pretty straight forward when you think about it.

Keith 02-01-2013 06:13 PM

Yeah. It's called an angle.

What did you expect them to do? To go like "Austin is no longer in this match. You know, just in case something happens to him. Nothing has happened, but just in case he was to, I don't know, get injured or something due to being run over"?

XCaliber 02-01-2013 06:14 PM

Not sure why that match was never done again they were the big 3 in the Attitude Era and could have gone down as one of the best matches ever.

what, they knew for some time beforehand Austin was hurt and would be having the surgery. They could have run the angle at any opportunity before the show

It's got more of a "shock factor" when it happens during the show.

Savio 02-01-2013 06:24 PM

If they did that angle on the raw before the show the PPV would have less buys

Keith 02-01-2013 06:26 PM

That's also true.

It's Vince McMahon and it's a business. Do you think any smart business man would potentially throw away money by writing him off before hand?

Tazz Dan 02-01-2013 06:27 PM

Also what the other two said.

of course not, I personally have no problem with it. It's just not at all hard to see why others would or to view them as being "wrong".

Tazz Dan 02-01-2013 06:32 PM

I agree with you there too. But he didn't ask whether it was right or wrong, he asked why it happened.

CSL 02-01-2013 06:42 PM

ah you were replying to the original post. Your post was the first one the thread came to when I opened it, hence me replying to your question which wasn't actually a question at all and just part of your response

I still want that Triple Threat, and I'm still upset Taz didn't get the third spot in the match.

Spot on :y:

Tazz Dan 02-01-2013 08:17 PM

It's good that when we agree on things we can still find a way to debate it lol

Scottness89 02-01-2013 09:20 PM

At the time, I expected that match to be the biggest bout of all time! I was a very disappointed 10 year old at the time. It also led to quite possibly the most insignificant and lackluster championship run of all time by Big Show.

I did enjoy the whole "Car accident" angle though.

CSL 02-01-2013 09:23 PM

it wasn't all bad, we still got to see him get dragged around on that coffin which was brilliant

Rey Mysterio had the most insignificant and lackluster championship run of all time :p

Keith 02-01-2013 09:29 PM

Rikishi became a legend thanks to this angle.

Well, at least a IWC legend.

"I did it for The Rock" still resonates in our hearts.

But at least Rey's run had meaning...Eddie Guerrero and all. Mysterio lasted over an hour in the Rumble en route to winning the championship. All Big Show did was whine about his "father" while getting bullied by a 45 yr. old Ray Traylor, only to look like a bitch to to HHH when dropping the title. Then,he ALMOST wins the royal rumble, cuts his hair..and is begging HHH(the same that beat him 3 weeks prior to the rumble) to overturn the decision. Show was such a little bitch at this time lol
