No more wrestling?

Wrestling might be cut from the olympics, do you care?

whiteyford 02-12-2013 06:53 PM

No more Kurt Angles can only be a bad thing.

Corporate CockSnogger 02-12-2013 06:53 PM

Nah don't watch anyway, don't care.

Ultra Mantis 02-12-2013 06:54 PM

No more Kurt Angle claiming he's going to be in the olympics next time can only be a good thing.

whiteyford 02-12-2013 07:02 PM

He's still got the UFC.

Savio 02-12-2013 07:07 PM

I never see it on so my life wont change

Tazz Dan 02-12-2013 07:07 PM

I guess in terms of history it's sad, but I never watched it and am not really fussed about it not being there. In saying that if you're a wrestling fan I can see why you'd be upset, I was dark when they dropped some cycling events from the program for London, and if they dropped the sport all together I'd probably flip out.

Lock Jaw 02-12-2013 07:07 PM

I care because it seems to me that it is a much more "legit" sport/competition than some other summer events. Not that I ever watched it, or really any of the Summer Games.

Only way getting rid of amateur wrestling is acceptable is if they are planning on making MMA an olympic sport.

Savio 02-12-2013 07:29 PM

they should get rid of artistic gymnastics

Will never happen..

whiteyford 02-12-2013 07:32 PM

Everyone knows that but Angle, although he hasn't mentioned it in a while.

Juan 02-12-2013 07:35 PM

It's a shame for the sport and its athletes but no, I don't really care

whiteyford 02-12-2013 07:36 PM

Is the point of College wrestling just to get to the olympics or what? I know guys don't have to have that background to turn pro but it used to be something that was sought after, especially when Briscoe/JR had a hand in developmental, so will it impact the industry that way?

Juan 02-12-2013 07:42 PM

Nah, I'm sure they'll develop some kind of international tournament in lieu of the olympics.

CSL 02-12-2013 07:43 PM

WWE still scout college wrestlers today, Brisco himself even. And more and more guys would be looking to get into MMA nowadays anyway I'd guess instead of hanging around a few years after college to train and compete in the Olympics. No idea if or how it will affect wrestling at a college level though.

CSL 02-12-2013 07:44 PM

wouldn't be surprised to see the decision get overturned anyways, it's still 8 years away from going into effect

Kris P Lettus 02-12-2013 07:44 PM

Ronda Rousey, former US Olympic Gold Medalist Judoka, and current UFC Champion has been pretty vocal about the fact that the Olympic committee does nothing to help the athletes once they are done competing.. And it's not even like they are "set" when they are competing.. I mean, I think she said when she won the Gold, they gave her a check for 20 grand and were like "good luck".. Truthfully, I hate that they are scrapping it, but deep down, I know that 50% of those wrestlers who would have trained out of HS or college for the Olympics will now prolly just go straight to MMA.. Some will go the prowrestling route, but like with Lesnar, alot of "real" wrestlers hate going into prowrestling because it's not a "real" competition.. Why Angle has been saying he wants to fight MMA..

Kris P Lettus 02-12-2013 07:44 PM

Fucking CSL stealing my posts..

Shisen Kopf 02-12-2013 10:22 PM

Wrestling? Da hell is that? I only know about rasslin

MoFo 02-12-2013 10:26 PM

They are replacing it with baseball/softball most likely :nono:

Nicky Fives 02-12-2013 10:35 PM

I do not see how it is a smart decision, but I do not care..... alot of people will though

Curd 02-12-2013 10:47 PM

Although I don't feel threatened by the IOC recommendation, I care about it as a sign of respect for the tradition of it (in as much as that tradition has not held back a particular demographic). I care about half as much as if the American flag were to change its colors...wouldn't affect how I live life but wouldn't be a change I'd welcome.

Tom Guycott 02-12-2013 11:14 PM

Would rather the usless form of Olympic boxing went away. Its a dying sport anyhow (in favor of MMA, of course), and the Olympics aren't doing it any favors with growing old gracefully.

Lock Jaw 02-12-2013 11:28 PM

They should add Slamball to the Olympics

I don't know, unless we plan on naked wrestling, pederasty and homosexuality, I think we can say we've already left Olympic traditions behind.

Probably for the best. The shithead tryhards in Tapout shirts are bad enough. Imagine if they thought molesting kiddies was cool.

Razzamajazz 02-13-2013 01:26 AM

it's gonna be a tossup between rasslin, squash, and some other thing nobody gives a shit about. pretty sure more people would rather see olympic rasslin than olympic squash

Do you see any GOOD or MORALLY UPRIGHT traditions anywhere in the world, KK?

Fignuts 02-13-2013 04:11 AM

The founding sports should be untouchable, IMO.

I agree with this, I don't really see the need for another golf tournament which is one sport they are trying to replace wrestling with. The Olympics is pretty much the pinnacle for wrestling. I mean I understand golf will probably draw bigger ratings and mean more money in the US if you can get the big names to participate, but aside from being the first guy to get a medal in golf they aren't likely to care or even show up especially if one of the majors is within a week or two of the Olympics.

Well, I guess this means amateur wrestling is just as fake as professional wrestling.

Kris P Lettus 02-13-2013 11:33 AM

How so??

MON$TER ENERGY 02-13-2013 05:03 PM

Thought of this for some reason

The Iranians are not gonna be happy!

DaVe 02-14-2013 04:43 AM

2700 years of history in the Olympics. Yeah, it matters.

Especially with the Olympics continually adding mainstream or some stupid sport that doesn't require an Olympic event.
