World (1991-95), which is what the social group is based on. The cartoon, Where On Earth Is Carmen Sandiego? is a show which I found to be quite awful, with a boy and girl working together as detectives, and there was this virtual guy who played the "chief". And no matter what, they never "caught Carmen". She'd usually just get off a witty one liner and then get away in a chopper or something...pretty lame, TBH.
I also have a pretty bitter taste for the other, inferior game show, Where In Time Is Carmen Sandiego? (1996-98), which still had Lynn Thigpen, who is dead now, as the chief, and some new guy, this total tool named Kevin Shinnick was host. They had live actors portray villains steal things, out of all places, from history. The three contestants did some dorky history IQ type stuff in Round 1, and they replaced the Lightning Round and The Chase from World to the Data Boost, and Ultimate Data Boost, respectively. As usual in Round 1, the 2 players with the highest scores advanced to Round 2. Then the chief would brief the gumshoes with either 8 or 9 years in the history relating to the item stolen. Whichever of the contestants could list all the years from most recent to least recent in order, went to the bonus round, and instead of putting a crook in jail, the item was "returned to it's rightful place in history". The final contestant would be asked questions by Carmen, still about the item from hisory. They had to get, I think, 7 or 8 right, but the catch besides the obvious time limit, was that if they got a question wrong, they would have to operate some sort of mechanism or gadget to get a gate to open, which would allow the contestant to run around to the next gate in the maze. Terrible mess of a show.
