He has tons of great matches from the late 80's in NWA, vs Flair, Pillman, Sting, Steiners etc...

the torture rack was the only redeeming quality about him

He's not good, but nowhere near as bad as people make out compared to other bad that was out there.

He had the ability to let Flair, Steamboat, Sting, Horemen etc... run circles around him. He has has to be the worst wrestler to ever have the best matches.

He could move fairly well for a big guy, and his strength gave him a unique ability to work with guys who were inhumanly large. But he wasn't a great technician and didn't possess great ring psychology. Not the best (or even very good) but certainly not the worst I've seen.

Honestly, I am trying to reason not making Lex a 10. He had the look of a wrestler without being 7 feet tall. For some reason I won't make him a 10. Not sure why, though. His look WAS the best thing about him.

I'm biased against submissions anyway, but the Torture Rack was pretty lame. It forbids you "finishing" a guy like Yoko or Bundy with any amount of credibility. The Forearm Smash was much better, IMO (he used it to beat Yoko in '94 by count-out)

Agreed. It's difficult to hoist Roadblock on one's shoulders, but how much would such a thick man be hurt by wiggling one's arms while holding the dude? A bearhug would logically hurt more.

I dug Luger's "steel implant" forearm gimmick, though.

I think Lex takes too much shit. He wasn't the greatest technician and he didn't bleed charisma, but he could work if you put him in with the right guy (Flair, Sting, Ron Simmons). Just sadly, they rarely did. And yeah, his stick work wasn't good, but that's why he was best when he had Harley Race or Bobby Heenan doing his talking. And the torture rack was awesome, especially since he could even put 400-500 lbs guys in it.

Sorry I ruined your Lex Luger partay with Miss Elizabeth accusations, he was a fav of mine in the 90's with the mirrors and all. Too amped up right now to rate him.

Good body I guess but nothing out the norm considering 99% of the roster was roided to the gills.

i like ranking things. this is a fun game.

One thing I always found funny... even in terms of "suspending disbelief": Luger was ALWAYS going to turn on Sting, who was ALWAYS going to give him the benefit of the doubt, and you could ALWAYS see this coming from a mile away.

I don't think it's fair for me to try and rank this guy. Besides nostalgia playing a factor on clouding up his awfulness, it doesn't seem right to rank this guy higher after just shitting all over Chris Masters. I hate that guy, but to his credit, at least he *tried*. Lex is just terrible.

And that's not even including the Liz thing. Enough people have mentioned that, so it isn't like it's out of the blue.

I think this isn't so much about Lex as it is about Sting.

If Sting didn't catch up on Lex Luger's intentions after so many backstabbings, then he's to blame, not "Sexy Lexy"!
