I grew up a wrestling fan.. Cutting promos has always been huge in pushing a wrestler forward.. The Blue Chipper to The Rock.. Stunning Steve to Stone Cold..

Anyway, as a former wrestling fan, and current MMA fan, I just want to share this with those of you who aren't familiar with Chael P Sonnen..

The hobby was dead before Dana revived it. It's like poker, once people realize neck tattoo's and wife beating isn't in style anymore, this game will die. Nobody talks about it anymore and they just had to lay off a quarter of their roster. Nobody watches TUF anymore, so that'll leave a bunch of homos in Ed Hardy t-shirts in debt. Bunch of fake tough guys.

STD stated Sonnen "is a bitch with a glass jaw". Now he didn't state this openly in public, have you, but only behind closed doors, in the form of a negative rep.


Lets discuss a few things, STD, since that's more mature and fitting for a discussion forum.


Chael has never been knocked out. Ever. Not a single KO loss on his fight metric record. Saying he has a "glass jaw" is both inaccurate and uneducated. If anything, question his submission defense, since most of his losses come from getting tapped. Even that, is suspect because of Chael's fighting style (wrestling). He shoots for deep doubles, takes guys down, and perfers to fight out of people guards, making him vulnerable to high level BJJ players. He also goes against a number one rule when fighting out of someone's guard, which is he puts his hands/forearms on the mat (something ALOT of wrestlers do), instead of posting off of his opponents midsection. Putting yr arm on the mat, while in guard gives the bottom fighter leverage to take the arm or even hit a switch and take the back. Thus, he has gotten submitted alot over the years.


Now I'm assuming you prolly didn't know who Sonnen was before his first fight with Silva, because before then, he really didn't use his mic skills. He was more of a grinding wrestler, who thanked his coaches post fight and went back to the locker room. He is a smart guy, and he realized that with his public speaking ability, and he's creativity, he could use that to propel him into the lime light, which he has done. Now, assuming you hadn't seen him fight before the first Silva fight mean, yeah, you've seen him lose a few times. So, lets disuss those times.


The first, he DOMINATED the greatest fighter of all time, taking him down at will and pounding his face for 23 and a half minutes, until, as i said earlier, he left his arm on the mat, while fighting out of Silva's guard, and Silva snatched it up and got the triangle choke.


The second, he was looking really good on the feet against Silva and had him rocked at one point with a huge right hand. He then, for whatever reason, decided to throw and errant spinning back fist, missed and ended up falling on his ass, right against the cage. And once again, when you are fighting the greatest fighter to ever live, one small mistake leads to failure. Silva came in with a viscous knee to the sternum, and got the TKO with punches.


The last of these loses came against Jon Jones, who in the past few years has also beaten greats like Rampage, Rashad, Vitor Belfort, Machida, and Shogun. Jones foot was seriously hurt in the first round and if the first had gone 30 more seconds, it would have been stopped and Sonnen would have gotten the LHW title, as a huge under dog against the future greatest fighter of all time. And it also needs to be said, at UFC 151, when Dan Henderson had to pull out of the title fight against Jones, Sonnen was willing to step up and fight him, without a training camp, a weigh class higher than his own, on eight days notice.


So, with all that said, and as I said earlier, the assessment that he has a glass jaw or is a "bitch" is kinda ludicrous and is def uneducated.
