Why is Cyndi Lauper not in the Hall of Fame?

Seriously, who deserves to be in the celebrity wing more than her? Instead, we get Drew Carey and Donald Trump. WTF?

Keith 04-08-2013 02:38 PM

'Cause the fans nowadays wouldn't give a damn.

Hell, most long-time wrestling fans wouldn't give a shit.

I mean, what benefit does WWE get from inducting Cyndi Lauper into the HOF?

Heisenberg 04-08-2013 02:38 PM

Goonies music video alone is worth the nod

ron the dial 04-08-2013 02:39 PM

it's good enough for me

A valid point.

Donald is a decent inductee for the celeb side....Carey yeah, dunno how that happened.

Bobo 04-08-2013 04:17 PM

I'm surprised Muhammad Ali and Liberace haven't been inducted given their significance in Wrestlemania folklore. Ali for sure deserves to be inducted but I'm guessing the issue with HoF is that WWE would rather a wrestler's induction steals the limelight as undoubtedly Ali's induction would be the highlight of the evening, quite possibly the highlight of any HoF ceremony.

I would think if WWE were to consider inducting Ali it would be on the same billing as the Rock and that could well be next year prior to WM 30. Obviously number 30 is quite a significant milestone so McMahon will want it to be the 'Mania to end all 'Manias.

Mr T may be worthy of an induction but would Hulk Hogan agree to come back to induct him (seeing as Mr T's involvement tied in with Hogan's time in WWE).

I can't think of any other celebs who are worth an induction. Perhaps Mayweather once he's retired.

whiteyford 04-08-2013 04:19 PM

Mr T refused.

He is the first non-wrestler to compete in a Royal Rumble match.

Honestly I'd think they'd have inducted her by now just for the hell of it. Probably see it happen eventually though regardless. I mean how many more "celebrities" does WWE really have left to induct anyway?

Other then Mr T. I would say LT would be only other Celebrity should make it in.

Curd 04-08-2013 08:38 PM

All parties involved are waiting for a year in which Lauper releases a new album. Then she could leverage her HOF exposure into not only nostalgia album sales but also sales of the new recording.

Seth82 04-08-2013 11:06 PM

I would like to see Andy Kaufman inducted

THIS.

Freebirds are also not in the Hall, which is an equally big travesty.

He was in the fucking Royal Rumble in 2001, what other celebrity has done that???

Bad News Gertner 04-09-2013 08:33 PM

Said this earlier in the year. Shocked Lauper is not in. Bob Uecker as well.

James Steele 04-09-2013 08:38 PM

Bob Uecker is in. He went in a few years ago.

Bad News Gertner 04-09-2013 08:40 PM

Oh shit, you're right

Emperor Smeat 04-09-2013 08:43 PM

Can't remember if it was just the dirtsheets or somewhere else that mentioned in the past of both Ali and Lauper were contacted before Trump.

Believe Ali refused because of health issues related to traveling but don't remember at all why Lauper declined.

Seth82 04-09-2013 10:29 PM

Lauper has supposedly declined in the past as well. she reportedly doesn't look back on her time in wrestling very fondly.

Poit 04-09-2013 10:36 PM

Huh. That's a shame.

She just knows that the crowd wherever her WWE HOF Induction takes place is going to either boo her, or not react at all.

She appeared last year though. Hit Slater with a gold record.

This.

On another note, they totally bury her on the Celebrities episode of Legends of Wrestling as someone who just wanted a check and didn't give a damn about the business or the wrestlers.

Yeah, the fact that Lauper busted open Slater hardway in PG era shows carelessness / recklessness / genuine hatred towards Heath on her part. If that happened in the Attitude Era, then Slater would probably face Lauper in a steel cage match the following RAW.

Or maybe she's just a celebrity who hasn't been in a wrestling in 30 years and has no idea what she's doing.

I guess lack of training could do that, too. Good point.

James Steele 04-10-2013 08:37 PM

I don't remember Slater bleeding from breaking that record over his head. BRB, gonna look it up on the YouTubez.

Oh FFS, he had a little drip of blood. It isn't like she took a shard of glass and channeled her inner Abdullah The Butcher.
