Fucking loved Labyrinth as a kid, just an amazing film.

Fun fact: this movie was part of my birthday moviethon. As was Dark Crystal and Return to Oz.

Totally forgot it was a Disney flick. That fact makes it a bit more WTF surreal than it already was.

Disney did a bunch of darker things about that time in the 80s. They had an animated feature film about a kid and his ape sidekick taking on the Welsh Devil.

Ayup. I grew up on the Lloyd Alexander books. They toned it down for the movies, but still. That is NOT shit I would expect from anything even remotely tied to Disney.
