The whole Jay Brisco anti-gay thing...

Its just crazy to me, how any time somebody has anything to say about a gay person that is negative, they are made out to be a monster. It has obviously been a huge topic since Jason Collins became the first athlete in the "big 4" sports in north america to come out of the closet.

Here is the thing though, I have nothing against gay people, I think people should do absolutely anything that makes them happy, as long as they are not hurting anyone else. But the guy who wants to say homosexuality is sick, or wrong, or disgusting and immoral, has his right as a fucking american to say, and feel whatever he wants without being chastised, or called out.

Its what we call a double standard, people dont want to be treated badly for being gay, but they want to treat people like shit, unless they say "oh yea, being gay is perfectly natural, and beautiful, there is nothing wrong about it at all whatsoever".

If you are keeping a secret, and you know there is potential for backlash if you expose that secret, It is up to you, and only you, if you want to let that secret out and expose yourself to it. I'm so sick of people being told that they have to act, and talk, and feel a certain way about everything. Love and tolerance should always be shown amongst each other and human beings, but if someone has an opinion you dont fucking like, fucking deal with it!!!! It's called life, and it is time for people to stop thinking the world should revolve around them, and they can force people into thinking and feeling however they want them to about homosexuality.

You can get called out for any opinion. He has a right to it, sure, but those who disagree can fully express that as he's expressed his own.

Wishbone 05-10-2013 12:07 AM

It's fine to have your opinion, but it's not fine to threaten to shoot anyone who has the opposite opinion which is what Brisco did. It's also a problem when you're the face of a company, even one as small as ROH because if you have an unpopular opinion then you reflect badly on the company which means you hurt their popularity and profits. Oh and like T-Money said, people are also allowed to express their opinion that your opinion sucks. Ain't freedom of speech grand?

Bad News Gertner 05-10-2013 12:12 AM

Jay Briscoe basically insulted 90% of Indy fans. Good that he'll have to donate $50 plus his Subway coupons to charity.

Wishbone 05-10-2013 12:17 AM

I'd say he insulted 90% of wrestling fans period even if they don't realize it Gerty. Let's face it we all enjoy watching half naked, oiled up men wrestle each other. Something's gotta be goin' on there.

Bad News Gertner 05-10-2013 12:18 AM

I only get erections when Heath Slater wrestles.

StRaNgEr 05-10-2013 12:45 AM

All valid points. I guess all of that was just my long winded way of saying, it just gets so old living in a world where 1 persons opinion just gets blown up into a huge fucking news story all the time, and all the sheeple just eat that shit up. Its one fucking persons opinion, WHO THE FUCK CARES!!!!

And for christ sakes, ROH is a wrestling company right? 95% of the population thinks pro wrestling is just low brow garbage anyway. The only people who even know who Jay Brisco is, are the extremely hardcore wrestling fans, do any of them really give a fuck? Are they going to stop watching because Brisco wants his kid to grow up and have sex with girls??? LOL

Its obvious he didnt mean shooting someone in the literal sense. If gay dudes want me to be accepting and tolerant (which I am) Then they damn sure better be tolerant and accepting of the fact that me and Jay want our sons to grow up and have sex with females, exclusively, that is the only way that it can be fair to both sides.

Also, the fact that the president of ROH is openly gay doesn't exactly help matters.

ROH featured in Gay Mag. Pretty sure Briscoe just cost ROH the majority of their audience.

whiteyford 05-10-2013 12:52 AM

He's a fuck up who just made getting signed by anything other than indie company even more difficult, for his brother too. It's akin to saying he hopes his son doesn't grow up black, you know with both being a choice and all.

StRaNgEr 05-10-2013 01:07 AM

Right, I'm not so much absolving him from blame, he made a stupid choice that he knew was going to end up bad if he has any common sense.

It's just lame that we have so many insecure pussies in this world that are crushed by someones words whom they have never even met.

The world can be a cold place, and A LOT worse things go on than someone hoping like hell that their son doesnt end up being gay, people just need to grow some thick fucking skin and stop with the bullshit whining all the time. If someone doesnt like the fact that you are gay, be secure enough with yourself to let their personal opinion slide right off of your shoulders. By letting their opinion cause a stir, you are the one validating their opinion, if you dont bother giving a hateful, or unkind opinion the time of day, it goes away just as quickly as it appeared.

Bad News Gertner 05-10-2013 01:08 AM

There's hoping and then there's threatening to shoot someone in the face. Big difference.

whiteyford 05-10-2013 01:16 AM

He's the face of the company, freedom of speech takes a back seat there it should be common sense behind the wheel, it's not about people being insecure more people thinking what a daft cunt.

Shindig Jeff 05-10-2013 01:20 AM

he shouldnt say things like that about people who have things about them that are different. Just think if all the world was mostly gay then the strait people would be like how the gay people are now and they wouldnt get to marry their cat.

BollywoodSingh 05-10-2013 01:53 AM

Whether he should be allowed to say it because of freedom of speech or not, it's a stupid thing to say. If he is anti-gay, he is entitled to that belief, but he's an idiot for tweeting that and not expecting any backlash. Why not just keep quiet about it? It was such an unnecessary tweet.

I don't really know who Jay Briscoe is, but if he's considered WWE material, he pretty much just blew his chances.

dronepool 05-10-2013 02:11 AM

Jay Briscoe probably secretly gives blowjobs in the locker room and hates himself for enjoying the taste of semen.

I was with you until the bolded part. Freedom to say whatever you want does not mean freedom to say whatever you want without repercussions.

You do realize that what you want your son's sexuality to be may not be the case, right?

Poit 05-10-2013 03:19 AM

Also, this thread is only tangentially about wrestling. Shouldn't this be in the discussion forum or something?

Rammsteinmad 05-10-2013 03:30 AM

So you're whinging about people whinging about people whinging about gays? If people have the right to free speech, then the people who lash out at homophobes for any anti-gay statements should have every right to, without having to face a backlash from people like you.

Tom Guycott 05-10-2013 04:55 AM

Let's play a little game...

Here is the thing though, I have nothing against black people, I think people should do absolutely anything that makes them happy, as long as they are not hurting anyone else. But the guy who wants to say interracial couples are sick, or wrong, or disgusting and immoral, has his right as a fucking american to say, and feel whatever he wants without being chastised, or called out.

Its what we call a double standard, people dont want to be treated badly for being black, but they want to treat people like shit, unless they say "oh yea, being black is perfectly natural, and beautiful, there is nothing wrong about it at all whatsoever".

If you are light skinned and passing for white, and you know there is potential for backlash if you expose that secret, It is up to you, and only you, if you want to let that secret out and expose yourself to it. Now for the question: do my edits make this seem more or less like a batshit argument to you? I mean, if you really feel so strongly about what you said, changing the directon of what is essentially the same viewpoint shouldn't make you uncomfortable in the least, which in turn, says something else about you entirely.

Now, I'm the first one to say that calling someone a fag (or retard, for that matter) is NOT the same as calling someone a nigger. In fact, I had a very dim view on that ad campaign for sexual eqality. I also have a particular view of the whole "born this way" statment not taking into account for those who feel as though it's a preference over genetic predetermination, or those who see sex as sex and really don't give a rat's ass who it's with- but that's another issue for another time.

In the case of Jay Brisco, there is a big difference in simply not being PC and being a goddamn idiot. Being stirred up enough to even sarcastically suggest somone should be shot in the face for telling your kid gay couples are a-ok? Are we overblowing The Westboro Baptist Church and any iteration of the KKK into "monsters" that they supposedly aren't because anything they say is protected by the first ammendment?

Being protected doesn't equate it to being appropriate, and even if he is a "lowly" indy wrestler, he's still, in a manner of speaking, a public figure. He broadcast his statement to the WORLD WIDE WEB, and as such, he opened himself up for any criticism. He should not only be "called on it", he should be expected to be called on it. It is understandable that homosexuality makes some people uncomfortable, and they're okay to feel that way... but are we, as the public, just supposed to let his comments slide and just shrug our shoulders and be like "oh, that's just how HE is"?

Again, just because he has the right to say it, doesn't mean he should've. Any heat he gets from this is really his own fucking fault. Plain and simple.

Rasslin' Fan 29 05-10-2013 07:45 AM

Would love it if Briscoe used this as an opportunity to turn heel and join SCUM.

"At least SCUM ain't gon' make me buddy buddy with some fag!" Could just see Briscoe saying something like that during a promo and the crowd going nuts. (all 10 of them anyways)

Rasslin' Fan 29 05-10-2013 08:04 AM

It'd be awesome if he gave Cary Silkin a Jay-Driller at the next show.

So americans are allowed freedom of speech but you advocate censorship for anyone who says anything about what he said. Brilliant.

Who?

Kane Knight 05-10-2013 09:02 AM

I hate it when people who threaten to shoot other people are made out to be the bad guy.

BizarroKing 05-10-2013 08:43 PM

Cary Silkin is apparently openly gay...Cary Silkin is the ROH prez...

We would like to wish Jay Briscoe well in his future endeavors.

Curd 05-11-2013 07:27 PM

I'd be interested in reading the Brisco Bros' eventual biography so I can better understand why they both had/have difficulty getting signed to a major promotion, even TNA, for so long.

Also, maybe Jay made the anti-gay comment to compensate for when he and Mark wore black eyeliner for a time in ROH. But now that Jay's gone off Twitter, I think it will be a while before we get his perspective again.

Bad News Gertner 05-11-2013 08:30 PM

They are about 5"0 vanilla midgets. That's why.

Aha, the commonly co-morbid obstacles of stature and charisma strike again!

Black Widow 05-12-2013 02:49 AM

FUCK BRISCOE!! maybe i'll play his entrance theme next time i sleep with a girl.

Rasslin' Fan 29 05-12-2013 09:29 AM

So THAT'S what AJ lee's stands for. You're pretending to be her gf! I get it now.

whiteyford 05-12-2013 09:39 AM

And you're pretending to be a real person, so much in common.

Rasslin' Fan 29 05-12-2013 09:50 AM

Lol, keep dreaming. When have I ever pretended to be anyone I'm not? I am exactly who I say I am, Rasslin' Fan 29. I think you're actually someone pretending to be someone else. And don't be mad because me and the girl of your dreams (AJ Lee's) have so much in common.

whiteyford 05-12-2013 10:26 AM

So basically "I know you are but what am I", at least you've cut back on the racist bile with this account even if you still struggle to come across as an adult.

Rasslin' Fan 29 05-12-2013 11:25 AM

I dunno what racist bile you're talking about, you're the one with "whitey" in his username. I dunno how I struggle to come across as an adult when you just continually rant about every post I make. If my posts are so bad there is an ignore button. In my short time here I've done nothing wrong (that I'm aware of, sorry if I have) but you in particular come at me like you've got a problem with me.

whiteyford 05-12-2013 11:28 AM

Sure mike, sure.

mike adamle 05-14-2013 11:58 AM

So Jay Briscoe has a match against BJ Whitmer on Saturday for the belt. I'm guessing to appease the gay fans they'll have Briscoe lay down for a BJ in the middle of the ring, one-two-three, new champion.

The fans will then get in the ring and celebrate with Whitmer and all 10 fans will gang rape him in the middle of the ring while chanting "this is awesome" and "match of the year."

I'd say yea he pretty much fucked himself as A WWE prospect, they have a HUGE anti-bullying campaign so he basically told them I'm a hateful, homophobic dumb ass, and he can apologize all wants he has blown it big time(there's a joke in there but I take the high road) not just with WWE but in general.
