Wrestlers asking for charity

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/iron-sh...224707360.html

Is it just me, or has recently there been more wrestlers who are asking for charity for a surgery they need? What do you think about that? Should people who were stars back in the day, be asking for charity now? Is it right to ask for handouts when you made more money in your career than most fans will ever make in their lifetime? ... Why is the URL "The man behind the mask"?

Juan 06-26-2013 04:20 PM

We all wears masks. Metaphorically speaking

Kris P Lettus 06-26-2013 04:30 PM

Nah they were talking about Jon Southwoods boyfriend..

I think it's weird that wrestlers are asking for donations, I don't care about the "morals" of it- it's just strange to hear these people who made more money than most fans have so far or ever will asking for cash because they need it for ect.. reasons creating this phantom sympathy.

Crowdfunding is the new black.

This is the natural result of things we don't have in the US. Like Universal Healthcare. Like Wrestlers being classified as employees rather than "Independent Contractors." Like a Union for Wrestlers.

But that's too heavy to think about in this context. So we have to ask about the symptoms rather than looking at the actual disease.

I do not agree with it. These people have made their choices in life to end up where they are at. With the money they have earned and blown away gives me no reason to support them. If someone fails to look at the big picture before it is to late is not my concern. I will be donating to people who have misfortune that was not their own doing.

don't have a problem with it

Emperor Smeat 06-26-2013 07:06 PM

Probably depends more on who's asking but don't have any issues with wrestlers using charity or kickstarter for help with their medical issues.

Just like athletes, the majority of wrestlers don't come anywhere close to making the big bucks and older stars come from the time when contracts were a lot smaller than now. Even if they saved enough to live comfortably, medical costs can easily wipe out years worth of savings.

Don't WWE pay for this shit anyway, or is that just for teh junkies to go rehab?

ask away. and if people want to give, it's all good.

Shisen Kopf 06-26-2013 08:17 PM

As long as its not Jake the Snake or Scott Hall then it's ok I guess.

The Condor 06-26-2013 08:21 PM

Don't care. One has the choice to give or not to give, just as these guys chose to be pro wrestlers despite all of the negative aspects and historical pitfalls of doing so.

This is pretty much the answer. One ex-wrestler successfully crowdfunds, then his colleagues copy and try to wring more money from fans by exploiting emotions with SOB stories.

Curd 06-26-2013 09:02 PM

I'd be more sympathetic if the asker was an indie wrestler who responsibly planned a small or nonexistent family and didn't marry five times. Like if Ric Flair crowdfunded anything, I'd know some of it would go to his soon-to-be ex-wife, so I wouldn't give despite my respect for Flair's performances.

Fixed that for you.

Sad to say, KK, you are right.

If Zach Braff can do it, why not!
